Headscratchers / Monster Prom

Go To

  • Why are the characters in high school even though they're all college-aged? I understand if the developers wanted to make them legal considering the nature of the game, but they could have made the school a university and the characters college students and it wouldn't change the game that much, and the prom thing could have been just some formal event that the school decided to host. What, does "Spooky University" not roll off the tongue as well as "Spooky High"?
    • As far as I can tell from my experience, universities don't have prom, and "Monster Prom" has connotations about it that, say, "Monster Ball" or "Monster Gala" wouldn't have. And you're right, "Spooky University" doesn't sound as good as "Spooky High."
    • In one event, it's revealed that the monster education system is based on Saved by the Bell, so given how the actors in that show were pushing 20-21 by the time the series ended...granted, there's also a couple of Spooky High students with ages in the triple digits, so age probably doesn't really matter here.
    • It's possible that Spooky High is a voluntary system, for those monsters whose parents wish for them to have a structured learning environment (such as Damien and Miranda, maybe Vera), became monsters while still relatively young, and possibly had their human education interrupted by such (Polly and Scott), or simply want a high school experience they probably didn't get when they were high school aged (Liam). This could actually explain a lot about the overall implied system.
    • In Germany, at least, high school (well, "gymnasium", which is usually optional/selective and geared towards university preparation) can last to age 20 or 21. Maybe Monster High is in Überwald and they employ Germanic education standards. Of course, German schools also don't traditionally have a prom night, so I don't know.
