Go To

  • After Alvin "finds religion", he tells Gracie that he'd be sympathetic and understanding if she would prefer to marry another man. Gracie, already in love with Alvin. Though not altogether approving of Alvin's rather tactless attempts to marry her himself previously. Gives him a thorough tongue lashing for it, even waving a knife in the rather nervous Alvin's face at one point.
  • Alvin's "Turkey call".
  • When Alvin and "Pusher" Ross first meet. "Pusher" is stumped by Alvin's way of speaking, but his own style of speaking isn't all that refined either.
Pusher: An' you haven't even seen a subway?
Alvin: I ain't never even heerd o' one.
Pusher: 'Heerd'? 'heerd' What kind o' talk is that? Do they all talk that kind of English where you come from?
Alvin: Well, there ain't any English people down our way, just Americans.
  • After York's platoon captures a German unit. The exact identity of York's prisoners changes drastically with each retelling. It gets so ridiculous that eventually everyone thinks he captured the Kaiser.
