Despite the premise and serious themes, there's still plenty of room for hilarity.

    Timeline
  • One of the first conversations ever happens between Mikoto and Mahiru. After they introduce themselves, Mikoto immediately gives her the nickname "Mappi." Mahiru is rather baffled.
  • Mahiru asks Kotoko about her "sporty" fashion sense, leading to Kotoko wondering if Mahiru is making fun of her or really just that ditzy.
  • For Valentines day, Yuno told Mahiru "I bet you could make chocolate from cacao beans", which prompts Mahiru to fantasize about the entire process then boldly claim she can do it, much to Yuno's and Kazui's shock.
  • Mu straight up inhaling two baguettes, impressing Kazui.
Kazui: The bread looks like it's sliding into her mouth...
    • Realizing there are no bread left, she started crying. Kazui then gives her his bread instead, making him cry.
  • Futa takes offense to Amane picking the meat out of her food. She promptly responds by pointing out that he didn't eat his vegetables. He continues to insist that she eat meat or she won't get bigger, and she says he's funny.
  • One of Futa's comments about the lack of electronics in Milgram leads to Kotoko talking about Halden Prison and their prisoner-friendly policies. Futa doesn't seem to follow.
Futa: Uh. Yeah, Norway! The famous one, yeah. They respect human rights, I see. Y'know, Japan is so behind compared to other countries. Japanese politicians are all idiots.
Kotoko: ...I'm the idiot for expecting a legitimate debate.
  • Futa calls out Mikoto for giving everyone nicknames, saying it's creepy. His retort is that he doesn't give nicknames to everyone, like kids or people who are hard to approach. He also comments he hasn't given Futa a nickname.
Futa: ...Hey, which one are you saying I am?
  • Kotoko talks about the very unsanitary ways a prisoner would use to escape a normal prison while everybody is having dinner. Futa, Kazui, and Mikoto are understandably disgusted, while Shidou, being a surgeon, is completely unfazed.
  • Mikoto comments to Kotoko that their names sound similar, thus they should team up. Kotoko's only answers are Blunt "No".
  • Mikoto asks Kotoko whether she or Kazui would win a fight, and Futa rather rudely pipes in that of course Kazui would win, as he's a man and he's heavier. You can practically hear Kotoko seething before she elaborates.
  • Futa gives Mahiru a tomato for her birthday.
  • Haruka tries to get Futa's attention, which leads to Futa protesting that his birthday isn't something to be excited about... Except Haruka didn't even know it was his birthday.
  • Mikoto comes back from his interrogation with an injury that he doesn't remember how he got, which he complains to Kotoko about. Her only response is a simple "That's unfortunate." If you listened to Mikoto's voice drama, you'll know that Kotoko had to knock him out herself.
  • Mu jokes about Futa getting hit on the head when that's the reason he lost his eye. Then she mentions it's her birthday.
Mu: Futa-kun, you've started saying strange things. Did you hit your head or something? Oh, you did. Hahaha. Oh, by the way, it's Mu's birthday today.

    Music Videos
  • In "Bring It On", you can see the first two "bosses" that Futa defeats have Circling Birdies over their heads.
  • Some of the bits of text detailing each day in "This Is How To Be In Love With You" are comedy gold.
    • Day 4: Mahiru runs into her crush at the bakery and buys the same things as him, only to realize she can't possibly eat all of that bread.
    • Day 5: when she learns that her crush jogs as a hobby, she impulsively blurts out that she does it too...even though she actually hates exercise. She ends up totally winded after they run together.
    • Day 9: she goes on a date with him to a bar and discovers that she holds liquor better than he does.
  • The brown cat's expression before the light falls on him in "Magic", pictured above, is priceless.
  • Mu's face in the last scene of "After Pain". Contrasting it with a blackboard filled with death threats making this a Black Comedy material.
  • "The Purge March":
    • There's an Amen break leading up to each chorus. Stealth Pun, perhaps?
    • In the final chorus, the color guard Amanes sport wide grins and "Uh-Oh" Eyes as they break form and run ahead.
  • "Double": The scene of Mikoto frantically running is more on the goofy side, especially the way he trips at the beginning.
  • "Deep Cover":
    • The asymmetry on Kotoko's headspace outfit is a bit ridiculous, given that one side of her blouse goes well past her knee and the other is cropped.
    • The song ends with a diss track of all the innocent prisoners, which can come off as petty or desperate.
    • The werewolf that emerges from her shadow looks more out-of-place and silly than intimidating.

    Voice Dramas
  • In the first voice drama, Es makes quite a few jokes, mostly at Jackalope's expense.
    • Jackalope needs Es to open a door for him, but only motions towards it. Es asks if he wants to be pet, prompting angry screaming.
    • He explains that only Es' bedroom door doesn't have a tiny entrance for him, prompting angry screaming at his own reference to his size.
    • Es threatens to step on Jackalope if he doesn't walk faster, prompting angry screaming. He scolds Es and tells them to walk at rabbit speed...prompting more angry screaming at his own statement.
    • We also learn that, somehow, Jackalope cooks the meals. He says that fur gets into the food during shedding season.
    • Jackalope introduces the prisoners along with some comments about their appearances, which makes Es uncomfortable. When it comes to Mikoto:
Jackalope: He's nothing special, so let's skip this one.
  • In Relative Zero Degrees, Yuno seizes control of the conversation with her energy and friendliness, leaving Es to try and keep up with her pace.
    • Before the interrogation even starts, she attempts to Jump Scare Es. They are not impressed.
    • Yuno says she has three reasons she's not nervous. When Es prompts her to share, she asks for money and calls them a cheapskate when they obviously don't.
    • Es shares that they slapped Haruka during his interrogation, leaving Yuno amazed that something like that could make him smile. She proceeds to call him "Hentai-san," roughly equivalent to "pervert," "weirdo," or as one translator put it, "Mr. Kinky."
  • In Braze you!!!, Futa is very defensive and aggressive compared to Haruka and Yuno. Es, however, finds the typical-prisoner behavior to be hilarious. They reveal at the end that they had intentionally teased him more than the others because of it.
    Futa: [utterly flabbergasted] ...Huuuuuh?!
    • After Futa calms down a little, he proves to be surprisingly talkative, without even any prompting.
  • Mu's behavior in Crying B can come off like that of a whiny baby.
Mu: Penal servitude? I don't wanna do something like that!
Es: Even if you say you don't want to, do you really think they would listen to you?
    Mu: I don't wanna!
    • Mu is also the first prisoner to witness Es talking to Jackalope. As Es is the only one who can hear Jackalope's voice, they come off to her as a nutcase.
  • Shidou's voice drama Molech is mostly serious, but after Es kicks him in the shin, we get this exchange:
Shidou: Didn't you say you wouldn't lay a hand on me?
    Es: It's a case-by-case basis!
    Shidou: What even...?
  • Mahiru shows off her ditziness in Love is mine.
    • She cuts off Es and starts introducing herself. Es starts to scold her for it, but then they remember that that was exactly how Yuno's interrogation went.
    • After learning of Es' amnesia, Mahiru suggests that they drink tea to improve their brain function. Es actually gives the idea some consideration before catching themself and refocusing on their job.
    • As per custom, Es asks if Mahiru has any last words.
Mahiru: Can I call you Es-kun?
      Es: No comment!
  • In Exposure Night, Kazui theorizes that since the prisoners can't hurt Es, Es can't hurt them either. Es immediately responds by slapping him in the face. When Kazui complains that they could have just told him he was incorrect, they threaten to slap him again.
  • After Amane barrages Es with questions in With the Apostle and Death, Es comments that no matter how old she is, she's definitely annoying. When the bell signifying the end of interrogation rings, they immediately tie her up.
  • Of Blessedness and Punishment:
    • Es tells off Amane and says that no matter how grown-up she acts, she's just a child. When Amane points out that Es is a child too, Es simply retorts that as a fifteen-year-old, they're legally considered an adult in Puerto Rico and Haiti, of all places. The kicker? They're incorrectnote .
    • Amane is audibly fuming at that remark, which Es rubs in. They briefly devolve into an Argument of Contradictions.
      Es: Hehehe. You look angry.
      Amane: I do not.
      Es: You do.
      Amane: I do not!
    • Es makes fun of Amane for referring to herself as "we", only to do the same later on. Amane calls them out on that.
Amane: "We"? What's "we"? Is it not just "you"?
  • In Neoplasm, Es calls Mikoto's alter "John", and he remarks that it sounds like a dog's name. When Mikoto is back, he thinks Es is talking about a dog and starts guessing what breed of dog Es might have.
  • In YONAH, Kotoko calls Es out on the way they judge prisoners, saying they'll eventually start judging based on looks and personality. This is exactly what Jackalope said they could do.

    Written Interrogations
  • Haruka and Yuno are asked if they know any languages besides Japanese. While Haruka simply answers that it's impossible for him, Yuno writes that she can't speak English...in English.
  • Shidou being so bored in the prison has started learning to draw. To prove it he drew a small Jackalope on his interrogation log.
  • The sheer contrast of Futa and Mu's second interrogation. Futa is clearly tired of being bombarded with questions about being beaten up by Kotoko. Mu's responses to those questions are more lighthearted. For the last question, asking if they were in the right, Futa acknowledges that he wasn't, while Mu gives a Blunt "Yes".
  • In Kazui and Amane's second interrogation, one of the questions is, "Did you love the person you killed?". Kazui leaves the answer completely blank.
  • There's something funny about Mikoto's answers to the Trial 2 questions slowly degrading until John comes out, if you can get past the initial creepy factor. Then question 14 asks what he thinks of his name, and John says it's not bad. Quite the Mood Whiplash.

    Minigram
  • In two separate Minigrams, Shidou tries to tempt Amane with pancakes. Inside Amane's head is a council of multiple copies of her, and they freak out when Shidou appears in her head. Amane flips the pancakes on Shidou's head to avoid the temptation.
  • On a few occasions in the Minigrams, a prisoner requests a tool that qualifies as a weapon, and Futa reminds them that they're in a prison.
  • "165 cm" (ep. 30), which corresponds to the timeline conversation of Futa telling Amane to eat her vegetables or she won't grow bigger, adds the visuals of Kotoko walking by and Shidou's shoulder entering the frame. Futa is visibly shorter than Kotoko and barely reaches Shidou's shoulder.
  • "Going for a walk" (ep. 31):
    • Shidou decides to go for a walk, inviting Mu to go along with him. Mu refuses but is upset that he left. Shidou then invites Mahiru, and Mu is on the verge of exploding with anger.
    • This episode was released right after Season 2 Mahiru's album announcement. Though Mahiru is depressed and has to use a wheelchair after the No-Holds-Barred Beatdown by Kotoko at this point in canon, she decides to walk leisurely with Shidou around the place in the Minigram, noting concerns about her health.
  • "Halloween in Prison" (ep. 43): Mikoto remarks that ghosts are an easy decoration to make, then he looks at Shidou's ghost with angular cuts. When Kazui brings in a pumpkin, Shidou prepares to carve it, while Mikoto suggests they sketch it out first. The panel draws attention to Shidou's ice pick, contrary to Futa's insistence on not ordering weapons in previous Minigrams.
  • "Pest" (ep. 44): Yuno, Mu, and Mahiru wonder who would kill cockroaches if any showed up in the prison. Futa gets riled up when Yuno remarks that he couldn't do it, and that's before he knows what she's talking about. When they discuss whether Haruka could do it, let alone hurt a fly, Mu reminds them they're all murderers... while she's the only one in the room who committed a conventional murder.
  • "Love Talk" (ep. 45): Mahiru is dying from boredom/lack of discussions about love, so the others try talking about the type of people they're into. The person who starts is Kazui, who talks about being into cheerful, carefree girls. Yuno immediately calls bullshit.
  • "Curry Udon" (ep. 47): Amane and Haruka get their uniforms stained by curry udon. Shidou's uniform is clean, though he mentions that he sometimes would get his clothes dirty at work (emphasized by blood splatters). Amane has an Imagine Spot of Es accusing her of causing trouble because her clothes look bloody.
  • "A Laughing Fit" (ep. 54): Haruka gets into a laughing fit over the word "drone beetle" (kanabun) to the point of falling over, much to everyone's confusion.
  • "Prison Teacher (part 1)" (ep. 55): Amane is disappointed with Shidou because he isn't focused on grading her test, so she goes to find another teacher. She tells Futa she's looking for someone well-educated and able to learn, and then she walks past him, much to his chagrin.

    Other
  • In the translation for Bring It On's lyrics, the f-word is censored as "f%#k". As the lyrics are also listed in the description, this had the side-effect of putting "k" as one of the video's hashtags.
  • Mikoto was already insanely popular after the first voice trailer, being the most (seemingly) ordinary and clueless guy in the cast. With the release of the first MV "MeMe" he became the most popular, getting the video 1 million views in one week and stands as the most popular video of the channel. He also holds the most overwhelming "guilty" vote for the first trial on the main site. Jackalope, while summing up the results of Season 1, noted the "commotion" with a very displeased voice.
  • Milgram posted a silent video on Twitter, showing off new merchandise of the prisoners based on their art in Undercover. After going through them, we’re left watching an empty, static-filled screen...in which a Jackalope plushie appears and shakes at the camera.
  • Amane's name is misspelled as "Amene" in Magic's description. It gets better when you notice the unintentional Stealth Pun.
  • Es's cover of "This Is How To Be In Love With You" is sung without a hint of emotion, to the point of hilarity. Their voice actor has confirmed that this was a conscious choice, as Es would not be able to relate to Mahiru's mindset at all.
