Funny / Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

From the movie

  • Almost any time Greg's dad is onscreen. To elaborate, he's a tenured sociology professor played by Nick Offerman who thoroughly enjoys laughable foreign films (and those of Greg and Earl), seeks the company of his cat more than most human beings, and indulges in the most fascinatingly disgusting foods that result in Greg's lunch bag getting obscure labels such as "German Hell" and "Romanian Poison."
  • "Summer? What does that even mean, like, more sum?"
  • The first direct exchange we see between Greg and Rachel.
Rachel: I don't need your stupid pity.
Greg: No, hey, I'm not here 'cause I pity you, I'm actually here just 'cause my mom's making me.
    Rachel: That's actually worse.
    Greg: Yeah, I know.
  • Greg's overly dramatic response to his mother's pestering of him to go see Rachel, topped with rolling on the floor in agony.
  • "Whatchoo lookin' at, cat? Wanna fight? Didn't think so, punk ass cat."
  • Greg and Earl's collection of no-budget parody films, including:
    • "A Sockwork Orange"
    • "2:48 PM Cowboy"
    • "Pooping Tom"
  • Basically everything done by Ill Phil, who tries rhyming everything.
    • After he, Greg, and Earl are thrown out of the school for their fight, Earl can be heard telling Phil he's going to die alone.
  • After Greg refers to himself as a "modest mouse" once, Rachel's mom repeats it every time she sees him.

From the novel

  • The way Greg describes an appropriate response to Olivia Ryan freaking out over the puddle of urine that appears in the stairwells most days between 10:30 and 11:00 AM.
"Liv! The perpetrator has probably not returned to the scene of the crime. Pee Diddy is long gone by now."
  • "There is no force on earth greater than the fear jocks have of homosexuals."
  • The text Greg receives from Earl on his first visit with Rachel
yo pa gaines drove me to whole foods so if you need some funky vlastic pickle relish for that pussy just hollerrr
  • The book also contains the film parody Gay.I.
