Dark Deception may not peg itself as a comedy horror game, but it still doesn't shy away from showcasing how it doesn't take itself too seriously.

  • The way Bierce just judges you at the beginning is quite funny considering she thought he would be bigger in either size or ambition.
  • The Chef Monkey's theme music is actually a horror version of the Pizza Time theme from Spider-Man 2. Yes, really.
  • The fact a bus had crashed into the entrance hallway of the school is just absurd. And it is never brought up nor is it explained why it is there.
  • The noises Agatha makes when stunned. Her head also wobbles a little, as if she's seeing Circling Birdies.
    • The same goes for the Clown Gremlins. And as expected, they are even funnier.
  • The Dread Duckies' run cycle is this and Narm Charm. The absurdity of being chased by a rubber ducky running around on spindly human legs meshes very well with the sinking realization that if it gets within range, it will rip your face off. They even do victory dances on occasion!
  • Despite not speaking at any other point, the clowns will shout "Ow!" if you kill them. Yes, even the Goliath Clowns.
    • Speaking of, there's something absurd about a giant clown who, despite having the strength to level almost anything in one punch, dies from a single swing of a mallet.
  • There's something about how "Torment Therapy" begins with the hospital lobby functioning like a strip club complete with a group of Gold Watchers having tea. (That thankfully don't activate.)
    • Before the chapter released, the Reaper Nurse's level was shown the least in previews. Now we know why.
    • Bierce gets several moments of deadpan commentary throughout the level as she suggests Doug to not trust the nurses - after they have repeatedly tried to execute him via lethally booby-trapped medical equipment.
    • For some meta-humor, the Reaper Nurses are voiced by the incomparable Tara Strong. She's voicing a psychotic killer dressed up as a hot nurse acting as minion to the real big bad. now why does that sound familiar?
  • The Joy Joy Gang fit the bill for Hostile Animatronics, but they have their comedic moments as well. Most notable is Hangry's rib obsession, particularly after he, Lucky, and Penny are merged into Joy Kill.
Hangry: I can eat WAY more ribs with this size!
Lucky: Hangry, why does everything gotta be about food?
Hangry: Sorry, I just get so hungry.
  • On the topic of the Joy Joy Gang, the game takes liberties with how cartoonish they are. It's one thing to be chased by a sentient animatronic. It's another be chased by a sentient animatronic that tosses cartoon bombs at you. Penny stands out as she can fly around. If she catches you, she'll even fly up in the air and crush you under her butt.
  • Plus, the face she makes when she is idle is absolutely hilarious. It is just a bored glare that greatly contrasts with her chipper and upbeat mentality.
  • Penny's voice is also quite similar to Toot Braunstein, another insane man-eater also voiced by Tara Strong.
  • There's a hilarious easter egg in "Mascot Mayhem". There's a boardroom complete with posters of the Joy Joy Gang's raps, bottles of Hangry's bbq sauce and some ribs, and a whiteboard that says "More JJG rap=More visitors. More visiters=more ribs."
    • Also, you can see the posters for the raps made to promote Chapter 4. Yes, they are canon. These blood-hungry robots serving a demon hunting souls have an official, in-universe rapping career.
  • After stabbing Bierce in revenge as the ballroom burns around them, Agatha notices Doug is just laying there on the ground, barely conscious, and cheerfully waves to him. The little "Hiya!" she gives is what sells it.
  • Despite how horrific and unnerving the Trigger Teddies are, they are surprisingly adorable. While most of the sounds they make are disturbing, a few of them are quite and sometimes a few of them can be seen reaching out for a hug. This video shows everything mentioned prior, and why hugging them is a bad idea.
  • This moment in "Bearly Buried:"
Malak: Tell me - did you put one of your ring pieces in your attic?
Mama Bear: (slightly confused) Yes... one of them is in the attic. How did you know?
Malak: Because he's already there and he's watching us!
Cue Mama Bear looking up and, indeed, Doug is now watching her stare at him.
Mama Bear: I guess I'll deal with him now then.
  • During "Bearly Buried", Malak takes over the role of Bierce, providing commentary in her place. He's also all but confirmed to be a father figure for Agatha, leading to this comment.
Malak: What? No, Agatha, you can't also look. Stop annoying me, I'm busy.
  • After Doug is freed from Malak's marking, he descends further down a bone-filled tunnel to find Mama Bear in front of an Acid Pool. What does she do next? She does a backwards cannonball into the pool without any prompting! This is quickly offset by her mutation afterwards, but it still comes the hell out of nowhere for an otherwise no-nonsense character.
  • Bierce's eighth entry in her audio diary has her recount how she has attempted to retrieve the ring pieces herself several times, only to always be greeted by Malak's minions. While the first two are very generic, the last one is quite strange.
  • Some of Bierce's comments when you die are better than others, but one of the best is her disbelief if you die to a Gold Watcher:
"Is it really that hard to outrun a statue?"
    • Or dying to one of the Joy Joy Gang:
"Death by furry?... I can't even mock you, it's too easy!"
  • Malak gets to use a memetically hilarious quote just before resurrecting the Joy Joy Gang into Joy Kill:
"Don't celebrate just yet. After all, that's not even their final form!"
