Fridge / Vs Sonic.exe

Fridge Brilliance

  • Why is Boyfriend able to defeat Sonic.exe, beyond Girlfriend protecting him? Because they’re playing by the rules of Friday Night Funkin’ rather than Sonic.exe, meaning while he can pull out all kinds of tricks against the player, he can't flat-out deny them victory.
    • Adding to this is how Sonic.exe isn’t corrupting FNF as he does a Sonic game, symbolised by the game not only advertising his presence alongside FNF, but also how Boyfriend is the one to confront him first rather than vice versa in the opening cutscene of “Too Slow.”
    • This also applies to the lore of Sonic.exe where he grows more powerful the more people know of him. But long before FNF, people eventually went on to forget or ignore him with many more not even knowing of his existence, in contrast to FNF itself which has grown a huge fanbase by the time the mod was made. It’s as if Boyfriend is able to defeat Sonic.exe through the power of popularity!
    • And of course, there’s the fact that in the original story, Sonic.exe’s victims were non-supernatural beings. Girlfriend, however, is a demon, thus she’s at a similar, if not higher power level!
  • Why do all the gimmicks stop in the pixelated Green Hill segment of You Can't Run? Take a look at Sonic.exe, and the answer becomes clear. He's trying to lull Boyfriend into a false sense of security, which is why he looks almost like a normal Sonic, trying an indirect approach instead of outright attacking!
  • Why does Faker have so many long notes? Because the fake Sonic is trying to keep up appearances, and when his mouth is closed, he has no lips.
  • The teaser for the release date of Round 2 has the entire gang... except for Fleetway Super Sonic. Why? On top of making him even more of an Unexpected Character, quite a few of his game over quotes have him take jabs at Sonic.exe, outright calling him a "blood crying faker" in one of them. No wonder why he isn't in the group shot, he hates everyone there!
  • It could be said that Fleetway Super Sonic is a bit outmatched compared to Boyfriend when it comes to the mechanics conveying their fight. Not only is Girlfriend completely absent when it comes to protecting him, but Boyfriend is the one leading the vocals for a good majority of the song, meaning that Super Sonic is the one who has to keep up.
  • Many note Triple Trouble feels like a boss battle. Quite fitting the third song of a Sonic mod is felt as such when the Third Act of a classic Sonic game is typically when a Boss is fought!
    • One of Tails’ animations has him turn into a cyclops for a moment. Seems like a random design choice to be creepy but notice that the eye that forms is in the shape of a Ring, which you can collect in all sections but against Xenophane to better your durability; Tails is trying to signal the Player to get the Rings!
    • During the song, Robotnik interrupts while BF is still singing, seemingly taking his part without Xenophane’s input, further shown when static appears, an indication of phases about to shift, in the middle of Robotnik’s part which doesn’t happens with Tails or Knuckles. Befitting that the Doctor would not only take the spotlight for himself, but also deliver one of the hardest parts to the song, being the Boss for most of the original Sonic games!
  • Boyfriend's Encore design being a rabbit makes perfect sense if one remembers that the original game was a Quest for Sex. After all, rabbits are known for being Explosive Breeders.

Fridge Horror

Fridge Logic

  • In the freeplay icon for Black-Sun, we see Revie's face. Except, in its actual sprites, its teeth are crooked and roundish, and it has no eyes, whereas the freeplay icon has perfectly symmetrical teeth and glowing eyes more akin to the real Sonic.exe. That begs the question: Who's ``really`` in that icon, and why are they in the icon for a song they have no business in?
    • The character in the freeplay art for "Black Sun" is Revie's EXE. Artwork for him shows that, on occasion, EXE can have glowing red pupils, and as for the teeth issue, chalk it up to it being Depending on the Artist.
  • A bit more of a meta one: In Forestall-Desire, Boyfriend and Pico have their Mobian redesigns. This makes sense, since they wouldn't be attacked by Requital if they weren't. Except for the fact that neither of them look like Sonic aside from being Mobians, and that the rest of the mod is filled to the brim with genuine Sonic lookalikes, some of which (e.g. Xenophanes in Missiletoe) have even been planned to be playable before. There's no reason Boyfriend couldn't have skipped this song and let his purple foe take care of it.
