Awesome Music / Vs Sonic.exe

Go To

Main week:

  • "Too Slow" starts off ominously with a slow remix of "Hill Act 1" before quickly transforming into a fast-paced, panic-inducing song reminiscent of Sonic the Hedgehog's drowning theme (complete with a direct leitmotif). The Encore version remixes the song, making it much more intense as the song speeds up towards the end, adding a segment of Sonic singing before revealing himself as Sonic.exe, as well as incorporating the leitmotif of Angel Island Zone just prior to the Drowning segment.
  • The heavy "You Can't Run" showcases the unyielding rage boiling in Sonic.exe's mind as Boyfriend and Girlfriend deprive him of his power trip, with a brief interlude of Green Hill Zone only managing to add to the tension. The Encore version makes it even more intense, complete with a rhyme section towards the end.
  • "Triple Trouble" is an eight-minute long piece that puts a capstone on the mod's main week, as Boyfriend switches opponents between the three lost souls captured by Sonic.exe, and the monster's true form, Xenophanes. And much like other songs in the mod, each individual segment finds a way to reference another song iconic to the character singing it. The Encore version makes it even more intense as it sounds more like thrash metal.
  • Final Escape was planned to be the very last song of the Story Mode, with Boyfriend having to book it from Xenophanes as he well and truly gives it his all. While the song remained incomplete for a long time and several fan-made variations followed, the original was finally completed as a three-way collab between MarStarBro, Saster and Nickolas, and their combined music styles show throughout. While remaining upbeat and fast, it slows down a bit for one section as Boyfriend reminisces on his friends' lives on the line, and a swing-like section accompanies Xenophanes trying to keep Boyfriend held down. However, he ultimately fails as the homestretch kicks in; Boyfriend going super just like in "Chaos" to truly finish the job and get back out of that game before it collapses with everything within. Its finality is fitting for what the mod ended out becoming, being a final farewell from all three composers to VS Sonic.EXE that hits well.

Other songs:

  • "Endless" has a catchy beat, a repeating leitmotif which is gradually expanded on over the course of the track, stellar vocals from Majin Sonic, and a surprisingly beautiful harmony segment between him and Boyfriend. The updated version from Round 2 remasters both characters' vocals and adds a funky disco beat. Finally is Endless ENCORE from the scrapped 2.5/3.0 update, with Majin Sonic's new human baritone vocals by IndeedKira both providing beautiful contrast and harmony with Boyfriend's vocals. "The fun never ends" indeed.
  • "Execution" manages to combine Too Slow's ominousness and Endless' energy into a truly terrifying combination befitting Lord X, using excerpts from "Thorns" in the base game, "Your Best Nightmare" from Undertale, and even both of Saster's remixes for Sonic.exe ("EXECUTION" and "Confronting Yourself").
    • "Cycles", the replacement for "Execution", uses Lord X's voice to amazing effect, making the song sound menacing and melancholic at the same time.
    • The unused song "Fate" is amazing with its constant change in tempos, menacing feel to it, and "His World" motif when Boyfriend makes his comeback against Lord X.
  • "Milk" is, in stark contrast to the rest of the mod, a light-hearted song that nevertheless holds up well to the standards held by its predecessors while being packed with references and memes to add to the upbeat tone. A new version of the song was created after the 2.0 update for those that found the original flawed, adding a more varied instrumental and cutting down on the memes while still retaining the Mythology Gags and happy, catchy feeling.
  • "Sunshine" is, despite what one might expect, a metal song sung with a mood similar to "You Can't Run", with an impressively eerie breakdown segment mimicking "Can You Feel the Sunshine", Tails Doll's Bootstrapped Theme.
  • "Chaos" is a fittingly chaotic and dangerous song fitting the destructive personality of Fleetway Super Sonic, punctuated by Super's Boss Banter throughout the song. It even samples the second part of the Perfect Chaos battle!
  • "Faker" is another noticeably different song from the rest of the mod, being rather slow, melancholic, and dramatic before culminating in EXE's nightmarish transformation that leads into "Black Sun", another quick-paced song that is also very catchy.
  • "Too Fest" is an incredibly fast-paced tune fit for Sanic.exe, including a remix of his iconic screechy Green Hill Zone theme, though thankfully not including the part where it ruptures your eardrums. The remaster for the scrapped 3.0 build makes the song even better, with a more serious feeling yet still having plenty of memes like the various lines Sanic says to when the screen becomes covered in MLG memes.

Songs from the Unused Build

  • "Round-A-Bout" is a jaunty track that fits the visual style of Needlem0use, sounding like the backing to a Circus of Fear befitting Sarah's attempts to ensure that she'll always have people to "play" with within her world.
  • "Prey" depicts Sonic's final bout against Starved and his robot Furnace, and it pulls no punches, with the final boss-esque atmosphere of the fight and the artstyle wonderfully recreating the 16-bit graphics of the Classic Sonic era.
  • "Fight or Flight" is a climactic confrontation between Starved and his world's version of Tails, with the fate of Little Planet, South Island and Christmas Island on the line. Starved's sheer menace is exemplified through the increasingly oppressive atmosphere of the track, and the entire thing winding down at the ending gives the entire situation a hell of a Bolivian Army Ending.
  • The catchy "Fatality", Fatal Error's song, heavily uses the Launch Base zone from Sonic 3.
  • "Manual Blast" starts out as Hog's song, fun-sounding with a slight undercurrent of unease due to being based on Labyrinth Zone to highlight that even if Hog means well, something is wrong with him. Around a minute in, Scorched takes over and begins a five minute long assault of frantic, dread-inducing and slightly tragic Epic Rocking as Scorched fights to maintain control of the situation.
  • "Substantial" is X-terion's spotlight song, and while it's a frantic and intimidating one at first, much like X-terion himself it becomes less frightening, or even a bit jovial at several points once it becomes clear he's just trying to connect with people again.
