Fridge Brilliance

  • Consider that Martin and Peter, who are cooking-obsessed, are knocked out by respectively a Frying Pan of Doom and a frozen ham; and that Vuk, who's a Psycho Electro (and secundarily a Pyromaniac) is knocked on the head with a fire extinguisher. The Fridge Brilliance here is how each character is knocked out with an object that is relevant to their own obsessions.

  • The old, dying Mast at the end of the movie flies a commercial-sized airplane. At first this seems purely Rule of Cool / Rule of Funny / Dying Moment of Awesome... but is it? When Mast at the beginning of the movie tells Bennie about his other, biological son, Mast offhandedly remarks while telling that story: "...back when I was flying..." - implying Mast's profession prior to retirement-age (which nothing is ever otherwise stated about in the movie) was a pilot. This is further implied by the fact that when Bennie says to Mast "We're going to fly", Mast replies: "As a pilot?". All of this would make it no wonder he can fly an airplane, and actually an extra awesome Dying Moment of Awesome that he got to fly a plane (one last time) just before his death.

Fridge Logic

  • Mast speaks with a markedly Flemish accent, (plus his actor Jaak van Assche in Real Life is Flemish) and is the (adoptive) father who raised Bennie. Apparently in the movie he's a Belgian who moved to the Netherlands and then adopted Bennie. This makes it in hindsight even more clear that the fact Dutch Bennie keeps mocking his Flemish biological half-brother Koen for the latter's Flemish accent, is an act not of truly not understanding him (as his own father is Flemish), but of showing how annoyed Bennie is by Koen showing up in his life and him trying to put Koen down.
