Why the stash of money looks like it's in bags that you see in robbery movies? Because there was so much gold to exchange they needed to carry the money back some how.

Back then, society still frowned upon women who left relationships they weren't happy with. Is Mae a lazy, self-centered bitch or does she just have a serious case of Stockholm Syndrome?
