Fridge / Bayonetta 2

Go To

Fridge Brilliance

  • Why does Bayonetta only fight the Masked Sage three times, opposed to the four times she fights her other two rivals through the franchise (Jeanne and Loptr)? It's because you've already fought him in the past game, only as Father Balder, therefore there's no need to have an extra fight.
  • Out of all the Cardinal Virtues, Iustitia is the only one the Masked Lumen never summons in his battles against Bayonetta because his actions are lacking in justice; Loki wasn't the one responsible for the death of his beloved and Bayonetta is just defending Loki from the Sage.
  • Bayonetta no longer takes damage from falling off the stage because she can fly with Malphas's wings now. Heights never pose a real danger to her anymore.
  • Bayonetta has pretty much the exact same figure as her mother Rosa. So that's why little Cereza kept calling Bayonetta "mummy," just like how Bayonetta would call Rosa "mummy."
  • As mentioned above, demonic enemies in general are tougher to beat than angelic ones. While this is mostly gameplay-wise, from a narrative standpoint it makes sense as Bayonetta's powers come from Infernal Demons. Combine this with her lack of experience in fighting demons and it's only logical that Bayonetta would have a harder time dealing with them.
  • At a certain point, Loki ends up with almost nothing left; or rather, with the Power of Nothingness left inside him after Loptr steals all his other powers.
  • Alraune's plant motifs and powers make sense given she's based off the play of the same name, but consider how Inferno also draws from The Divine Comedy as well. In particular, the Forest of Suicides where those who commit suicide are condemned to inhabit trees which are henceforth damaged and hurt by the harpies that inhabit said forest. Alraune committed suicide in life through poison, so it stands to reason her rebirth as a demoness of plants is a reference to both the play and the Divine Comedy!
    • And then she ends up trapped and tormented forever as a result of her own actions.

Fridge Horror

  • So when Bayonetta gets to Fimbulventr it's discovered the Gates of Paradiso seem fully accessible, which actually makes sense as vicious angels have been escaping into the human world for years now, with Bayonetta stopping them. However, during the game Bayonetta breaks a thick crystal seal and opens their counterpart, the Gates of Inferno ... could this mean that rogue infernal demons will now be able to more freely escape Hell and wreak havoc as well?
    • No, because that's not how this world works. Angels and Demons can't enter the world of chaos at all without being summoned, they're always in Purgatorio which overlaps all three realms. Demons and angels have always been able to interact with the world an equal amount via purgatoriio, it's just that the angels are organized, united in purpose and have a desire to interfere outside their own realm. The demons simply lack the same motivation to mess around on Earth that the Angels do.
