That man was implied to be a cartoonist, so he was likely added to the scene and set up for the fall deliberately to invoke some self-deprecating humor.
Rule-free wishes. One of Da Rules is that godchildren can't wish for someone to get killed, so there's a disturbing possibility that someone given a rule-free wish could use it to commit murder.
