    Girlfriends 1 - 10

Hakari

  • She's all feelings, in contrast to Nano’s rational viewpoint.
  • Her tender attitude and cunning nature is a contrast to Karane's rudeness and bashful dishonesty.
  • While Hakari and Hahari are both lustful, Hakari is comparatively more restrained in who she targets, how many she targets, and what she'll do to them, and takes a dim view of her mother's childish and depraved behavior.

Karane

  • Her honesty and directness to Hakari's tenderness and habit of keeping secrets.
  • Her straightforward attitude to Shizuka's shyness.

Nano

  • Her rational attitude is sometimes contrasted with Hakari's (who eschews rationality for her feelings).
  • She is emotionless due to never smiling, while Mei is emotionless due to constantly smiling.

Kurumi

  • She and Hakari are both slaves to their passions. However, Kurumi doesn't like her food obsession but can do nothing to stop it.
  • Like Karane, she's a tsundere. However, whereas Karane is a "traditional" tsundere, Kurumi has no control over when she's nice and when she's mean. She acts like a bitch when she's hungry and is nice otherwise.

Mei

  • Mei is emotionless due to constantly smiling, while Nano is emotionless due to never smiling.
  • Mei is willing to hurt herself if it means obeying what she thinks are orders from her master, while Iku is willing to hurt herself purely for pleasure.
  • Mei is completely obedient to Hahari (and later Rentarou) to a fault, while Naddy doesn't hesitate to assert herself against Hahari despite the latter being the former's boss.
  • Mei is older, a flawless maid, and devoted to her masters. Mai is younger, a cute clumsy maid, and devoted to Mei especially. Mei's devotion compels her to go above and beyond in the name of duty, while Mai's devotion distracts her from her duty. Mei is an Extreme Doormat, while Mai knows full well what she wants, and takes action to get it.
  • Mei and Momoha were kicked out of their family's homes and eventually found by Hahari, and they both do work for her in exchange for living where they work. But while Mei's parents disowned her due to being crippled by loan shark debts, Momoha was disowned because her parents thought she was doing too much for them.

Iku

  • Iku endures pain out of pure enjoyment, while Mei endures pain if she thinks it's her master's request.
  • Iku is a tomboy masochist, while Rin is an ingenue violence fetishist.

Mimimi

  • Mimimi constantly works towards being beautiful, while Meme tries to make herself stand out less. Mimimi loves being noticed and admired, while even slight attention being thrown her way causes Meme to make herself disappear.

    Girlfriends 11 - 20

Meme

  • To Shizuka, another very shy girl. Shizuka is child-like in body and, while mostly non-verbal, is comfortable being around the company; Meme has a very mature body, is perfectly capable of speech, and is not comfortable being around others at all.
  • To Mimimi. Mimimi works extremely hard to be beautiful and delights in being made the center of attention, while Meme actively makes herself look less beautiful so she can fade into the background and go unnoticed. The two exploit this by using Meme's misdirection to draw attention to Mimimi instead.

Chiyo

  • To Nano. Chiyo is orderly, while Nano is logical. Chiyo believes in heaven, while Nano dismisses it because it's unscientific.
  • To Kusuri. Kusuri acts younger than her age but becomes more mature around Chiyo. Chiyo acts above her age but is more comfortable letting her guard down around older Kusuri.
  • To Naddy, her cover-mate. Chiyo is disciplined and values upholding the rules. Naddy is relaxed and values freedom.

Naddy

  • To Mei. Naddy embraces freedom to an almost fetishistic degree, while Mei struggles to comprehend the idea of freedom. Interestingly, both of them were hired by Hahari because she thought they were cute.
  • To Chiyo. Naddy values freedom while Chiyo values rules and responsibilities, but both of them value doing the right thing, and both notice the issues the other has with how they approach things: Naddy sees Chiyo can end up taking on more responsibilities than she can handle, while Chiyo sees Naddy apologising for helping her - her lack of confidence in doing the right thing - and decides to help her escape.
  • To Yaku. Naddy decided to abandon everything related to Japanese culture after she couldn't become the Yamato Nadeshiko her parents expected her to be, whereas Yaku is a traditional Yamato Nadeshiko who has trouble understanding anything that isn't Japanese.
  • To Rin. Naddy immediately revealed to her parents her love of American culture from television, causing them to disown her. Rin immediately hid her newfound love of violence (which she got from television) from her parents out of fear they would disown her.

Yamame

  • To Hakari. While Hakari is a good person overall, she acts more innocent than she really is as a part of her seduction act. Yamame is so pure-hearted that her attempts at being seductive are mistaken for something innocuous.

Momiji

  • To her classmate Kurumi. Both of them are obsessed with certain sensations, with Kurumi focusing on taste and Momiji focused on touch. Kurumi becomes irritable if she's unable to get food but still tries to be civil, while Momiji is more easygoing but has a bad habit of invading people's personal space.

Yaku

  • To Hahari. While they're both adult girlfriends who not only have relatives who are also girfriends with Rentarou but have had previous soulmates, Hahari is a young mother who acts younger than she is around Rentarou's girlfriends, is shown to be a physical tease, and who fell in love with Rentarou the moment they saw each other. Yaku, on the other hand, is an old grandmother who (thanks to the immortality drug) looks like a little girl acting older than she is, is more of a mental tease, and initially admits to only humoring Rentarou about being her boyfriend, requiring significant effort on his part to convince her to actually date him.
  • To Kusuri. Yaku is calm and mature while Kusuri is energetic and generally acts like a kid. Yaku's hair is well-kept while Kusuri's is messy. Yaku is locked in her current form, while Kusuri can switch between forms.
  • To Naddy. Naddy was a Yamato Nadeshiko in-training who chose to abandon it in favor of American culture, while Yaku is a traditional Yamato Nadeshiko who has trouble understanding anything that isn't Japanese. This means Yaku often has trouble trying to understand what Naddy says. At least she doesn’t hold anything against Naddy acting how she does, proving that the latter’s parents’ behavior was not just because of their culture.
  • To Kishika, her cover-mate. Yaku is youthful on the outside but inside she is wise and unflappable. Kishika is cool and knightly on the outside but inside she is very quick to cave to her child-like desires.

Kishika

  • To Kusuri. Kusuri lacks self-awareness and doesn't care what other people think about her, while Kishika is very self-conscious of her actions and worries about what people think about her.
  • To Chiyo, as the other family member who finds themselves bound by responsibility. Kishika is the older sister/senpai who secretly wants to be pampered, while Chiyo is the only child/class president who's been pushing themselves to take on more responsibility and setting their own needs aside.
  • To Yaku. Where Yaku looks like a grade schooler but has a mature personality, Kishika looks mature but descends into infancy with just a minute of pampering.
  • To Rin. Both present themselves as upstanding and well-disciplined in public, but secretly have desires they desperately try to keep hidden from everyone around them. When Rentarou and the girls find out about them, they’re still willing to be friends with them in spite of that. The main difference is that Kishika’s desires are below her age group, while Rin’s desires are above her age group.

Ahko

  • To Karane. Ahko has no trouble talking about what she's feeling, but can't really show it in her expressions, while Karane finds it difficult to talk about what she's feeling, but it's obvious to anyone around her.
  • To Naddy, but only in the sense that Naddy wants everyone to believe she’s a foreigner, while Ahko immediately corrects Rentarou and says she is fully Japanese after stating her name is RC, correcting any potential misunderstanding before it happens. But the characters are not otherwise similar at all.

Uto

Mai

  • Mei is older, a flawless maid, and devoted to her masters. Mai is younger, a cute clumsy maid, and devoted to Mei especially. Mei's devotion compels her to go above and beyond in the name of duty, while Mai's devotion distracts her from her duty. Mei is an Extreme Doormat, while Mai knows full well what she wants, and takes action to get it.

    Girlfriends 21 -

Momoha

  • To Mei. Both were kicked out of their family's homes and eventually found by Hahari, and they both do work for her in exchange for living where they work. But while Mei's parents disowned her due to being crippled by loan shark debts, Momoha was disowned because her parents thought she was doing too much for them and wanted her to be independent.
  • To Mai. Momoha is slovenly and viceful but shows selfless gratitude to others for their kindness, and is very patient. Mai is proper and diligent but is mainly motivated by jealousy and vanity, and is clumsy and impatient.
  • To Rin. Momoha commits all manner of vice without caring that people notice, but chews people out for admiring her. Rin cares so much about people discovering her vices that she hid them for years so no one would ever find out.

Rin

  • To Hakari. Both are ojous with very unladylike character traits - Rin is a Nightmare Fetishist and Hakari is a Lovable Sex Maniac.
  • To Iku. Iku is a tomboy who plays baseball and openly engages in her masochism despite denying it, while Rin is a girly girl who plays the violin and tries to hide that she's a sadist.note
  • To Naddy. Both discovered their true selves after watching a television program their parents disapproved of, but while Naddy showed this off in public and got disowned for it, Rin hid this from everyone in fear of getting shunned for it.
  • To Kishika.

Suu

  • To Iku. Both of them have unusual paraphilia, but Iku's has a basis in reality while Suu's is unheard of in real life. Iku always has a cheerful and friendly attitude while Suu is usually cold and snarky.

Eira

  • Both Eira and Kishika initially present as capable, mature Action Girls, although they're very different in how they do so. Eira prefers a casual modern look, while Kishika's adopted a formal 17th century look. Eira practises capoeira, an unarmed Brazilian martial art, while Kishika practises kendo, a Japanese martial art using wooden or bamboo swords. Pushing their respective buttons causes them to reveal their other sides - Eira collapses in fear when she encounters something she can't hit, while Kishika regresses to infancy when shown affection. Both of them are acutely aware of their failings, and none too happy about them.
  • Uto is (normally) calm and takes things as they come, while Eira is nervous and scared of pretty much anything she can't hit. Uto's philosophical outlook on things does a lot to relieve Eira's anxieties.

Tama

  • Mei is associated with dogs and takes her job as a maid extremely seriously, to the point of offering to do dangerous or unhealthy things to herself. Tama is associated with cats to the point she's sunk her identity into becoming one and tries to avoid any kind of work or effort whatsoever.
  • Both Tama and Uto insist that they are something they are really not, but Uto is just a chuunibyou and otherwise all right, while Tama is so depressed that she has considered suicide — more than once — only decided against it to avoid risking even more pain, and her forsaking her humanity and insisting that she is a cat is both a sign of how messed up she is and a serious cry for help.

Himeka

  • To Meme. Himeka wants to be abnormal so she can stand out, while Meme does everything she can not to stand out. Himeka's attempts to make herself seem abnormal just make her look inept, while Meme's attempts to not be noticed just draw more attention to her.
  • To Chiyo. Their initial interactions with Rentarou and the other girls revolved around their reactions to everyone else's bizarre quirks. While Chiyo took issue with the others' eccentricities and tried to shoehorn her way of order into the group, Himeka wasn't keen on getting to know the other girls until she got to see their eccentricities and embraced them.

    Other characters
  • Uncle Hiro is basically the opposite of Hahari. While Hahari freaks out when her daughter revealed she had a boyfriend and goes to incredible measures to break them up that are only foiled when she too gets Strangled by the Red String, Hiro planned to have his daughter date Rentarou from the time she was born, and set up an elaborate scheme to make sure this didn't get derailed. Also, while Hahari initially does not approve of her daughter dating someone who has more than one girlfriend, Hiro is initially taken aback, but quickly accepts it. Naturally, Hahari calls Hiro irresponsible once Chiyo joins the harem.
