Disaster Movie is a 2008 movie made by Seltzer and Friedberg. It's their sixth movie. Though most of their movies have been unanimously hated by critics, they still made several times their budget regardless, this movie didn't, and is often cited (along with The Starving Games) as the reason why the duo started slowing down.
Following a bizzarre Nightmare Sequence, average 25-year old Will (played by Matt Lanter) finds himself involved in the apocalypse,and it's up to him and his group to solve the situation and, in Will's case, come back with his girlfriend Amy.
And so I thought, would be fine listing these Tropes?:
- Black Comedy:
- Juney chugs vodka, breakdances on her belly, and she and her unborn child get ripped apart by rabid wildlife from Alvin and the Chipmunks.
- There was a big bottle of Ambien and a wine glass, which could be a reference to Heath Ledger's death. Rumors also circulated that they wanted to be more direct based on casting the role of the Joker, but the deleted scene in question was actually just the character making out with some guy in a reference to Brokeback Mountain.
- Bring It: Calvin does this gesture to Kung Fu Panda as he prepares to fight him for slapping the Enchanted Princess across the face.
- Covers Always Lie: A poster has the logo done up in the style of The Simpsons Movie. The film has absolutely nothing to do with The Simpsons in the least, yet a poster was still made referencing it since it was still trendy at the time.
- Damsel in Distress: Amy (Vanessa Minnillo), being an expy of Beth from Cloverfield.
- Dance Party Ending: The entire cast, including a number of those who died during the movie, come back to participate in the final musical number.
- Dangerous 16th Birthday: Poked fun of, when Will has a sweet sixteen party the same day the world ends, even though he is 25.
- Deadly Prank: Chigurh has precisely two options for pranking a sleeping person at a party. The first is putting one of their hands in some warm water so they piss themselves. The second is shooting them in the forehead with his captive bolt stunner.
- Disposable Woman: Lisa, though the characters' grief doesn't last for very long.
- Drop the Cow: Literally — three cows fall on different superheroes during the tornado scene, and another falling cow caps off the Massive Multiplayer Ensemble Number.
- Karma Houdini: Kung-Fu Panda gets zero comeuppance for killing Calvin or the Enchanted Princess.
- Karma Houdini Warranty: The Chipmunks initially get off with killing Juney by scaring the others away, but are eventually crushed by a falling cow during the musical number.
- Letting the Air out of the Band: After taking shelter in a warehouse, Calvin hears his Shoe Phone ring. He takes it off his foot, puts it up to his ear... and the spy music slows to a stop as he pulls it away, revealing the sole is covered in shit and he accidentally got some of it on his face.
- Magic Pants: Parodied with The Incredible Hulk, as his shorts suddenly rip apart. Then a cow falls on him.
- Massive Multiplayer Ensemble Number: "Date Song
", a blatant rip-off of "I'm F—-ing Matt Damon" from Jimmy Kimmel Live! (the Unrated Edition uses "fuck" instead), which brings together many of the movie's characters, even ones that have been killed during the movie, to sing a curtain call song... then it's Drop the Cow time! - Monster Misogyny: Juney getting eaten by chipmunks.
- Negative Continuity:
- Calvin's face gets covered in shit from his Get Smart phone, only for him to be clean in the immediate next scene. And Juney's water breaks while hiding in the warehouse (which in this case means everyone else gets covered in foam).
- The two scenes where "Enchanted Princess" is mutilated by broken glass...
- Overly Long Gag: Amy Winehouse's belch.
- Raiders of the Lost Parody: Like most films made by them, contains a parody of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
- Say My Name:Features several characters doing nothing more than yelling their names, y'know, so you understand who they are. The best way to parody something is to explain exactly what it is you're parodying!"I AM IRONMAN!""I am Prince Caspian!"" I! AM! BEOWULF!"I AM KUNG FU PANDA!"
- Shoulders-Up Nudity: Juney strips she's only seen naked from the shoulders up.
- Vulgar Humor: Multiple scenes of women pulling objects out of their crotches.
