YMMV / Disaster Movie (2008)

• Harsher in Hindsight:
  • The jokes about Amy Winehouse's drinking are especially disturbing after her alcoholism finally killed her.
  • Iron Man is killed off as soon as he announces himself.
• Just Here for Godzilla: Despite Disaster Movie being perhaps their most critically panned and despised movie, some are willing to watch it simply to see the actual Kim Kardashian get killed and/or to see Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus get crushed by a meteor.
• One-Scene Wonder: The HeadOn skit, often considered the best joke in the entire film.
• Padding: Every scene is spent on incredibly long-winded "gags" that seemingly last for an eternity, without any sort of proper plot progression whatsoever.
• Questionable Casting: Even by the standards of these films, Kim Kardashian stands out as being woefully miscast as one of the main protagonists in Disaster Movie.
• Shallow Parody: As with most other Seltzer and Friedberg works, the characters and films depicted were primarily based on the trailers of their respective films due to the movies themselves not being released yet during production. As such, these satirical portrayals bear little resemblance to their official counterparts.
  • One of the main characters that the film parodies is Giselle from Enchanted, even though the character and her original film is already an Affectionate Parody of the Disney Princesses. Not only is she never named, only being listed as "Enchanted Princess" in the credits ^note Even though the trailers and marketing for Enchanted had already revealed Giselle's name prior to release, but her screentime and personality consists entirely of making fun of Disney tropes and her not belonging in a modern setting, which was already the premise of her own film.
  • In the climax, the titular character of Beowulf appears to fight the protagonists. His entire role consists of shouting "I am Beowulf!" and the characters making fun of him for not wearing any clothes, despite this only occurring in a single scene in his actual film.
  • A parody of Po from Kung Fu Panda also appears during the third act. He is only referred to as Kung Fu Panda instead of his actual name, he has a completely different personality from his official counterpart, and he uses Japanese nijitsu weapons such as bo staffs and katana swords, even though he's supposed to be from China.
• Special Effect Failure:
  • The nightmarish and stiff Chipmunk puppets and animatronics used for the Po parody are standouts in an already ugly-looking film.
  • It's obvious they just used some sort of distortion effect to crush the Iron Man, Batman and Hulk parodies under falling cows. Said cows also look like wooden sculptures.
  • The Hulk parody is clearly wearing a pair of green-painted underwear when his shorts rip off.
  • The Iron Man parody looks like he's wearing a store-bought Halloween costume, with his shoulder armor coming close to blowing off in the wind, and the parts around the neck and arms being thrown together with some cheap fabric. Even more bizarrely, the make-up and costume of the Hellboy parody who shows up afterwards are actually quite decent by this movie's standards.
