Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.Different by LostOzian
Synopsis: An amazing AU story where the most of the young part of the musical cast of characters are, well, different. Primarily members of a theives' guild, to be precise. A bit shy of halfway through, the tone changes as one intercepts something of importance.
Comments: Contains several references to both the book and the musical and some colorful Original Characters. There is romance in several ways, but it's far from the focus of the story.
Synopsis: An amazing Peggy Sue story in which Glinda, a year after the musical ends, finds herself back at the first day of Shiz. Following being asked a question by a prisoner Morrible shortly before she found herself in the past, she decides to see if she could change things.
Comments: Recently it has taken a couple interesting twists. First in telling Elphaba, then in revealing that Morrible facilitated the shift back and is also in her old self, then, even more recently, revealing the truth to her other friends. There's also some implied Elphaba/Fiyero, but it is far far from being anywhere near the focus of the story.
Also some VERY STRANGE THINGS have been happening. Scarecrow!Fiyero and Not-Actually-Dead Elphaba show up in the past, and not even as doppelgangers! How does that even work?
Synopsis: What would happen if the Wizard knew Elphaba was his daughter and was willing to do anything to have her stay? There are some elements for it to be Fiyero/Elphaba.
Comments: Complete. It's AU in that it veers away from the musical/book plot when Elphaba originally gets to meet the wizard.
Synopsis: An incredibly deep, well thought out story about G(a)linda that starts the night of Doctor Dillamond's death. Galinda begins having nightmares about a traumatizing event in her past, and she has been attacked and actually injured by/in these dreams. She begins to believe something evil is rising up from inside her, while everyone else thinks she's gone mad. There's also an exploration in role reversal, but I won't say much for fear of spoiling things.
Comments: My synopsis is woefully lacking-the actual story is much better. There is some Gelphie, but if that sort of thing bothers you I suggest looking past it because this story definitely is worth being read. It's novel, not musical-verse, and the characterizations are spot on. Also, it's finally been completed.
Synopsis: Locked in Elphaba's study at Kiamo Ko, a terrified Dorothy fully expects to be killed when the hourglass runs out and Elphaba returns. What actually happens when Elphaba comes back is something Dorothy could never have expected.
Comments: If there's one thing I've always hated about certain parts of the Wicked fandom, it's the people who loathe and despise Dorothy for essentially being caught up in something completely beyond her control. Alydia doesn't do that, instead doing full justice to the characters of both Elphaba and Dorothy and the visions of both L. Frank Baum and Gregory Maguire. After a lifetime of failure, Elphaba manages to find redemption in one final act of kindness that frees her in turn, and may well have a greater impact than Dorothy could ever imagine.
Synopsis: A year after the events of the musical, Glinda has been ruling Oz as peacefully as she can, whilst Fiyero and Elphaba had made a new life for themselves beyond the deserts that surround the country. Unfortunately, when unruly sections of the populace demand that Glinda step down, Fiyero is unexpectedly summoned to the Emerald City... and Oz is left open to an invasion.
Comments: A slowly-progressing crossover between Wicked and Return to Oz, this fic explores not only the destruction of Oz by the invaders, but the effects of the musical's finale on both Elphaba and Glinda- which the Big Bad of the story is all too happy to exploit. Featuring O Cs which thankfully haven't blossomed into Mary Sues and an unorthodox look at the Nomes of Return to Oz, this fic- while currently incomplete- is well worth a look.
Synopsis Everything is fine and dandy a few days before Spring Break at Shiz. Especially when Fiyero's come to terms with the fact that he's in love Elphaba. But just as he's ready to admit it to her, he notices that she may be a little too friendly with Galinda, ignoring the fact that Galinda is dating him. So he gets a little desperate to make the Elphaba he thinks is a lesbian to fall in love with him. Yes, by doing that.
Comments: Personally, I think it is quite possibly one of the best shows at humor ever, despite the fact that it can seem like an Idiot Plot at times. MST3K Mantra will be very helpful at those times, because aside from Ritiga, most of the characters remain in-character whilst all the craziness is going on.
Synopsis Elphaba, escaping from an arranged marriage to "some stupid prince from the stupid Vinkus", is quite literally stumbled over by Fiyero, who is escaping his arranged marriage to some Munchkinlander girl he's never heard of—Elphaba, of course. Romance ensues.
Comments: While this troper would have liked it to continue, she still finds it to be astoundingly well-written, well-plotted, and, best of all, wonderful Elphaba/Fiyero.
