Proof that the remaining 10% is worth climbing aboard mysterious trains for.

These are recommendations made by tropers for Infinity Train fanfics, all of which have to be signed or they will be Zapped from the page. After a few samples, you will be able to note the interests of the tropers recommending them, and judge whether you might be also interested in a certain 'fic.

Remember the rules - no self-recommendations. Find somebody else who agrees that your story is great to start the page! Use the template found here; a copy of the template is just below. Do warn when a fanfic may head into sexual territory or non-canon. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

Reviews of fics are encouraged, but if you choose to write one, please make it substantive, and give specific details about what you liked / disliked in the fic. If you want to give a fic a thumbs-up without writing a full review, you can add your troper handle to the Recommendations Line. Please refrain from posting "Comments" or Conversation in the Main Page though; that goes in the discussion page.

Routine by Weevilo707
  • Recommended by: Aniverous
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: She's hit snooze on her alarm three times now.

Four times.

Five.

You're stuck as a lump under blankets in the glass of the fish tank, occasionally swinging an arm out to put a temporary stop to the blaring noise, but not making any move to actually get up. It's a pattern you're used to, although it's been going on for longer and longer lately. She's been staying up later, more time spent hunched over at her computer, blocking out the rest of the world.

This isn't anything new to you. It's just routine at this point.

  • Comments: An exploration of Lake's time as Tulip's reflection on an average day that turns significantly less average later.

Collated Accounts of the Infinity Train: A summary by Timeline15

  • Recommended by: RacattackForce, Puidwen
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: For centuries, Human mythology has held one common story; the story of a supernatural, seemingly endless train. Accounts of the train dating back to before the 21st century are fragmentary, and have not been collated in a single work previously. In this paper, I will summarise a collated series of accounts by both witnesses and former passengers of the train, in order to better outline its appearances throughout history.
  • Tags: Written in the style of a scientific paper, train's appearances throughout history, post-canon Tulip and MT
  • Comments: A short little oneshot concerning how people back on Earth view the train, done as if the author is interviewing former passengers, recounting oral histories, and ripping excerpts out of various texts.

  • Pairing(s): Grace Monroe & Tulip Olsen, Lake | Mirror Tulip & Tulip Olsen, Jesse Cosay & Tulip Olsen, Jesse Cosay/Lake | Mirror Tulip, Jesse Cosay & Grace Monroe, Lake | Mirror Tulip & Grace Monroe
  • Synopsis: Tulip Olsen had decided, stupidly, to join a dumb college seminar program for “aspiring young minds”. Expecting herself condemned to an entire year of bumping elbows with preppy tryhards, she found herself establishing a deep connection with an upper-year mentor named Grace Monroe. An unlikely friendship begins between them as Tulip realizes there’s more to Grace than meets the eye.

Lake's New Normal by MayDayGirl_Save_Our_Ships

  • Recommended by: RacattackForce
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: After Lake escapes the train, she’s invited to live with the Cosay family. But after escaping the mirror world, traveling through a supernatural train, and fighting for her life, is she really able to live like a normal teenager? She’s not sure, but she’s willing to fight every day to make this life her new normal.
  • Notes: I find that most post-Book 2 fics surrounding Lake and Jesse just skip ahead to when the duo have already figured things and have a new status quo going. This one doesn't, and follows Lake as she tries to figure out the "and now what?" question as she works to endear herself to Jesse's family and deal with her train-induced trauma. It's also a Jesslake friendship fic, rather than one of the more common romance ones, so that's neat.

  • Synopsis: After the events of Book 3, One-One has permitted Hazel to travel the train with Amelia for studying. Ten years later, Hazel works as Amelia's assistant, fixing broken cars. That's when a routine maintenance trip goes wrong.
  • Comments: A Time Skip webcomic taking a look at Amelia and Hazel's relationship several years after Book 3. The way the duo interact and play off each other — from their causal talks, to their verbal spars, to their moments of emotional vulnerability — feel very natural and in-character. The artist also cleverly hones in on one of Amelia's fatal flaws and uses it as a driving force for the story, leading to some interesting character moments. All-in-all, a good comic that matches the tone and spirit of the show near-perfectly.

The Sun will Come Up and the Seasons will Change by Juliko

  • Recommended by MadAboutLove97 and ShiroKun
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A young autistic girl boards the train after finding out her mother doesn't love her.
  • ‘’Comments’’: This story is particularly interesting in that it not only shows the journey our main character makes as she goes through the train, it also shows the response in the real world to her suddenly disappearing. Both sides are interesting and gives the story a good deal of intrigue.

Fix Yourself and Back Home by null_HOME

  • Recommended by SubversionStation
  • Status: Complete; Ongoing
  • Synopsis: (Fix Yourself) When attacked by the ghom, Simon is saved at the last moment by Grace and wakes up later having to deal with his injuries and what he's done as Grace inexorably moves away from him. (Back Home) Grace finally gets off the train after leaving Simon behind and tries to rebuild her life, but the train finds ways to follow her still.
  • Comments: There have been many, many AUs where Simon survives at the end of the season, but this is one of the very best. The author doesn't brush over the trauma Grace and Simon have faced, nor do they shy away from portraying how messed-up the characters' psyches and personalities have become. Simon in particular is extremely well-written, and his shaky steps toward leading a better life are both painfully realistic and wonderfully heartwarming. Even better, there's artwork from the author embedded right into Back Home! If you, like the author, felt that Simon's death was "a tragic event than just pure karmic retribution," this series (a oneshot and a chapter fic respectively) is a must-read.

Infinity Train: Book X (Fan-Made Soundtrack) by John G.

  • Recommended by TTFan
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis:: An EP-Length collection of music made in the style of Chrome Canyon's work on Infinity Train, incorporating and rearranging existing motifs from the show (particularly "Running Away" while also incorporating new ones to tell a cohesive musical story.
  • Comments: John G. previously made a name for himself with a synthwave remix of MT / Lake's theme which caught the attention of both Cartoon Network and Chrome Canyon, but this compilation proves that he is more than capable of composing memorable themes that fit the soundscape of Infinity Train while carrying their own brand of emotion and intensity. A nearly 20-minute collection of tracks that are well worth the listen.
Open and Under Active Investigation by Weevilo707

  • Recommended by: FunnyButterfly1234
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Jesse/Lake.
  • Synopsis:Case Number 13409 Jesse Cosay. High school freshman. Enjoys the outdoors, spending time with his family, and making people laugh. On the school swim team, anime club, and a member of the theater club. Known to friends, family, and peers as an energetic and friendly boy, who will always look on the bright side and has a knack for getting along with anyone. Jesse Cosay was last seen on the south side of Lake Elaine. Teachers and classmates noted no odd behavior from Jesse during the school day prior. He was spotted with friends by several witnesses at the park area of the lake and appeared to be in good spirits. Last known witnesses were two schoolmates, Troy Snoodily-Banks and Anthony Simmons. Both boys claimed to have spent the afternoon with Jesse, several other boys from their swim team, and Jesse’s younger brother, Nate Cosay.
  • Comments: A story written in the form of a detective report (except for the last chapter). It narrates how the Cosays dealt with Jesse's disappearance from an external point of view and especulation about where he may be.

  • Pairing(s): Jesse/Lake.
  • Synopsis:"Except that when she went to stabilize him, she’d grabbed both of his hands, and instead of pulling away, he’d interlocked his fingers with hers. She’s connected to him at the palms now, skating backwards, keeping her demeanor cool while the inside of her head is wild with noise. His hands are warm. She’s noticed that before; he’s always been super touchy, all hugs and pats on the back and linked arms. But now… she traces the lines where their fingers interlock with her gaze, an alternating pattern of tan and chrome. If she was hiding her blush successfully before, she isn’t doing it now." Or: Lake invites Jesse to come roller skating with her... unfortunately, he has no idea what he's doing, and she's not exactly the most patient and articulate teacher.
  • Comments: A "getting together" story. Nice interactions between Jesse and Lake. I like how the author describes them. Very cute.

Infinity Train FANFIC by SirSpoder.

  • Recommended by: RacattackForce
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When Tulip gets trapped on a train that goes onto a path that leads to eternity, she must team up with a robot, a dog in order to find a way to get to the front of this Infinity Train and solve the mysteries surrounding the train cars.
  • Tags: Mystery, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Infinite Beyond, Multiverse, Creation, Timeline
  • Notes: This fanfic was written when the only thing that existed was the seven-minute pilot, so there's more than a few things here that make it so different from the final show that Alternate Universe Fic is definitely in play. And it's an alternate universe that really emphasizes the "infinity" part of Infinity Train. You'll spend the entire time, right up into that penultimate chapter, trying to put together all the pieces of the mystery right alongside this version of Tulip as you're hit with reveal after reveal from the moment the true nature of the train makes itself known. It's also amazing that, despite the huge divergence in plot, the author still managed to predict then-unknown elements like Tulip's parents being divorced and One-One being the true conductor of the train.

  • Tags: Redemption, Angst with a Happy Ending, Temporarily Unrequited Love
  • Comments: An alternate, but still dour take on the ending of Book 3 that reminds us that for all the character development she underwent that season, Grace is still a bit of a sociopath in her own right. Grace alternates between torturing her former bestie and allowing herself to feel the slightest bit of empathy for his tragic fall, Simon is stuck in self-loathing and just wants everything to end, and the dwindling number of Apex children are none-the-wiser as to why their leader's number keeps skipping around.

  • Synopsis: Chloe Cerise had enough of everyone telling her to have a job with Pokémon, of Goh ignoring her and focusing on Mew, his captures and Ash, of her father only caring for research and his "research fellows", and of Ash for being a black hole to suck everything in. • Tags: Pokémon Journey, Angst with a Happy Ending, Food as a Metaphor for Love, Running Away, Jealousy
  • Notes: I would have never thought of a Pokémon character as a candidate for the train, but the author makes a good case for Chloe fitting the profile this otherworldly locomotive looks for. The first chapter is very accessible; even if you haven't touched Pokémon in years, you'll be comfortably brought up to speed on that world (and all of Chloe's issues with it) before our heroine finds herself at the mercy of the train's unique brand of problem solving.

Catra's catty and cynical demeanor serves as a great foil for Steven's friendliness and optimism as they work their way towards friendship and helping each other off the train, and while the fic has yet to delve into Beach City's affairs, the B-plot paints an intriguing alternate version of SPoP's fifth season.
