Fanfic / The Marvelous Misadventures Of Tsubasa Hime

Go To

The Marvelous Misadventures of Tsubasa-Hime is an original Persona Fanfic taking place in 2016. After Konohana Taira suffers from a traumatizing incident, her parents decide it's best to send her to Kyoto, to live with her aunt, Sakura. And then she meets a talking fox, and her life starts to become like a magical girl manga. Have I mentioned the part where Yomi is supposed to be coming and she has to stop it?

Examples

  • Abusive Parents: Chisuke. He would use Izumi to lure women to him and then Izumi would have to watch him butcher them.
  • Affectionate Parody: Of the superhero genre, as many common tropes are lampshaded.
  • Animal Motifs: Izumi has a tiger motif.
  • Arranged Marriage: A huge theme in the story, with all of the ancient clans running around.
    • Hokona, Kono's grandmother reveals that she intends to put Kono through one, in order to return the Tairas to politics.
  • Beneath the Mask: Whenever the Dark Knights put on their masks to become their alternate identities, they act true to themselves, as compared to how they behave in public.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Izumi may act all goofy and is quite flirtatious but... do not mess with her.
  • Bilingual Bonus: The superhero names.
    • Tsubasa means "wing", which refers to Kono's desire to feel free to express herself.
    • Shioki means "punishment", referring to Izumi's wish to "punish" the bad guys.
    • Kitsune is Exactly What It Says on the Tin.
    • Akai means "red".
  • Call-Back: The Shadow selves are back.
    • Kono mentions that she attended Kosei High, Yusuke's school. Her mom, Ikuyo, also mentions that Kono's brother, Shino, is thinking of applying to Shujin.
    • Kono also mentions seeing Chagall, Junes, and Big Bang Burger.
  • The Call Knows Where You Live: Zenko specifically seeks out Kono, so that she can become Tsubasa-Hime and prevent Yomi's coming.
  • The Cameo: A recent chapter reveals that Shido will be at the Tokugawas' ball.
  • Central Theme: Superheroes and justice.
    • Grey morality is also a major theme.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Izumi.
  • City of Adventure: Kyoto, of course.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Not quite a sequel, but Kono is rather different from the protagonist of Persona 5.
    • Also in comparison to Minako, Persona 3's female protagonist, Kono is very different from Minako, being rather reserved and shy, while Minako was outgoing and bubbly.
  • Continuity Nod: Kono's father works for the Kirijo Group.
    • Rise is stated to be a popular idol, as well.
  • Demonic Possession: What happens to the victims.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Kaori dies in Kono's arms, bleeding out from her injuries.
  • Elemental Powers: It is a staple of the Persona series, after all.
  • First Love: Kono's first love is Kaori, who she met in the first grade.
  • Genre Throwback: Unlike in Persona 5, there's no Shadow negotiation. Instead, the Dark Knights fight Shadows from Persona 3.
  • Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: Kono ends up punching Izumi to snap her out of being charmed.
  • Good-Guy Bar: The Pulse.
  • Gorgeous Garment Generation: Much like Persona 5, awakening to your Persona in this grants you a costume. They're more superhero themed, however.
  • Henpecked Husband: Tai doesn't like seeing Airin, his girlfriend, unhappy.
  • Hero of Another Story: Persona 5 is going on during this story and there are some references to it.
  • Hot Teacher: Hiroto Sasaki, the homeroom teacher for all of the second years (save for Hinata).
  • Humans Are Bastards: Izumi's general outlook on society.
  • In-Series Nickname: Kono rarely goes by her full name.
  • Irony: Hokona remarks that it's a pity that Shido doesn't have a child for an arranged marriage.
  • It's Personal: The three founding members all have a personal beef with Igarashi, the first villain.
    • Igarashi personally threatens to kill Kono if Izumi doesn't stay away from her.
    • Igarashi threatens to fail Izumi if she doesn't sleep with him to "fix" herself, thus failing her probation.
    • Igarashi also kills Yoshi, a close friend of Izumi's and Tai's best friend. He also kidnaps Tai.
  • Meaningful Name: Kono's full name is Konohana, named after the Japanese goddess Konohana Sakuya-Hime. Kono's team happens to be filled with Japanese gods.
    • Kono notes that Zenko is the name of the good kitsunes, the ones that served the goddess Inari.
    • Masayoshi means justice which is a heavy theme of the game.
  • Named After Someone Famous: Kono, as mentioned before, is named after a goddess.
    • Felix is also named after a character in Frankenstein, like the previous Velvet Room attendants.
  • Our Gods Are Different: They like to manifest in the form of Personas, apparently.
    • Kitsunes are also considered gods of sorts.
    • Zenko is an actual goddess, but who exactly is still a mystery.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: The team is filled with outcasts, delinquents, and underdogs. And they're the only ones who can save the world.
  • Really Gets Around: Before meeting Kono, Izumi was rather... loose.
  • Reformed Criminal: Izumi wants to make amends for all the crimes she's committed.
  • Refusal of the Call: Kono tries this. Doesn't exactly work out.
  • Sadist Teacher: At first glance, Igarashi seems to be just stern and gruff. But then it turns out that he's a rapist who targets his male students. He will fail a student, forcing him to accept tutoring before raping him mercilessly. Eventually he kills the target.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: When it comes down to it, they are vigilantes.
  • Serial Killer: The Inventor, also known as Chisuke Oishi, Izumi's father.
    • Masaru Igarashi, known as the Masayoshi killer.
  • Shout-Out:
    Igarashi: What are you?
    Izumi: Your worst nightmare.
    • Izumi also comments that the Rifts resemble the ones in Dragon Age: Inquisition.
    • The Dark Knights obviously take their name from a certain superhero.
  • Stern Teacher: At first glance, Igarashi is this but...
  • Talking Animal: Zenko, of course. Or is she?
    • Apparently she's a goddess trapped in an animal's body.
  • Trauma Button: Anything that reminds Kono of the incident.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Kono awakens to her Persona when attempting to rescue Izumi from her serial killer father.
  • The Unfavorite: Tai is this, frequently compared to his more accomplished older brothers.
  • UST: Kono and Izumi have this going on, after they end up kissing at the Pulse Party.
    • No longer the case as of Chapter 14, as they get together.
    • Annnnd they'r back to this, as they broke up due to Kono's pending betrothal and her insecurities about why Izumi wanted to date her. Their feelings for each other are still very strong.
