The House Next Door Is Blue
is a Fall Out Boy-based Alternate Universe Fic. During his senior year of university at Francis College, Patrick falls for his professor, Pete, who makes it his mission to help Patrick leave his hometown of Daphne.
Daphne Blue Velvet/The House Next Door is Blue has examples of:
- Chekhov's Gunman: Bizzie is originally introduced as a nameless female character but she is later reintroduced as a major character at the end of the first book.
- Dreaming of Things to Come: Patrick experiences prophetic dreams that are fall on a spectrum of true. They often have supernatural elements. Readers know he is dreaming but he does not remember the dreams to the reader's knowledge.
- Due to the Dead: Despite evidence that is slowly revealing that Patrick's father (who has passed by the beginning of the story), Patrick chooses to believe that his father was a good person and is sensitive to any criticism regarding his father.
- Fag Hag: It is implied that the Eadie sisters unknowingly and consistently pursue queer men as love interests.
- Freudian Trio: The friendship between Charles, Brendon, and Patrick represents the id, superego, and ego, respectively.
- Signature Headgear: Not the fault of the author. Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump is known for wearing hats. In the story, Patrick and Charles wear baseball hats for competing hockey teams.
- Unreliable Narrator: Narrative distance changes throughout the story to indicate how much of the information is truthful and what are character's thoughts or imagination.
