Fanfic / Takashi Saeko And Love For The Dead

Go To

A Highschool of the Dead fanfic written by Rapshaw. Set after the non-canon OVA, our main characters decide to rest in an abandoned mall, only to meet up with a familiar face who tells them of a cure that could bring an end to the Zombie threat

Meanwhile, Takashi and Saeko begin to grow closer. Will this bloom into romance or will it end in disaster?

Takashi, Saeko And Love For The Dead contains examples of:

  • Abandoned Hospital: After leaving the mall, the group decides to hunker down in an abandoned hospital
  • Action Girl: All the girls (minus Shizuka and Arisu) are very skilled fighters, especially since Rika is a trained sniper in her unit
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: The non-canon OVA made out Takashi to be a “buffoonish, harem, pervert”, as stated by the author. Thus, they took upon themselves to reintroduce the edge lord Takashi we are familiar with
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Shizuka and Rika were stated to be roommates/best friends in the manga. Here, they are at least bisexual
  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: Saeko fears the sadistic, ruthless side that lies within her. While useful against their enemies, she worries that she may hurt her friends
  • An Arm and a Leg: Upon encountering dangerous survivors on the road, Takashi is shot by one of them. Saeko, in a fit of rage, cuts off the attackers right arm
  • Asshole Victim: Tsunoda loses his arm. That being said, he’s a ruthless, petty and depraved lackey of Shido who has no problem hurting others or forcing women into his “harem”.
  • Bathtub Bonding: While cleaning themselves in the staff bathroom, Takagi and Shizuka talk to each other about their respective hallucinations and their feelings regarding them
  • Betty and Veronica: Saeko and Rei
  • Breather Episode: After reaching the Hospital and the rather downer ending that we get in Chapter 5, the gang decides to stay to resupply and throw an impromptu wedding for Rika and Shizuka. There’s laughs, dancing and romantic development
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Takashi and Saeko are obviously in love. But between the zombie apocalypse, finding their families and their mission to "save the world," they have other things to worry about. Both decide to table their feelings until the moment's right.
  • Cat Fight: As they patrol through the mall and argue over their feelings regarding Takashi, Saeko and Rei get into a quick fight that gets interrupted by some Zombies
  • Did They or Didn't They?: Played for Drama. In a flashback in Chapter 2, it's revealed that Takashi and Saeko almost had sex when they were separated from the group. But Saeko gets triggered by her assault memory, and Takashi can tell she's scared, so he stops.
  • Elite Zombie: In the prison arena, the survivors fight against a Toxic Zombie, which seems to be a dozen zombies that Shido somehow fused together.
  • Everyone Can See It: Whenever Kohta flirts with Saya in front of their friends, she blushes and quickly lashes out at him to deny her true feelings. Of course, she's not fooling anyone. And when SHE kisses HIM in front of their friends in the prison arena, she's definitely not fooling anyone.
  • Girl on Girl Is Hot: Subverted. The first chapter recaps the events of the OVA, providing a steamy description of what occurred between Rei and Saeko that night. However, it turns out they fell asleep before actually having sex. And when they were about to have sex in the morning, Saya stopped them. Both women were still virgins, much to their relief.
    • Same for Saya and Shizuka. They may have cuddled in the nude, but they never actually ended up having sex, which brings them relief too.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Kohta is the only one who doesn't remember his island hallucination. Since he was dry-humping a broom, probably for the best.
  • Love Epiphany: The OVA being canon works in the story's favor. The whole reason Takashi realizes his romantic feelings for Saeko is because his hallucination about her confessing to him made him happy.
  • Not Using the "Z" Word: Subverted. The author clearly doesn't mind the characters referring to the zombies as zombies instead of THEM, like they were in the source material.
  • Prison Riot: Zombies break into the prison, leading to an all-out riot with Shido's evil followers getting massacred.
  • Shirtless Captives: Before Takashi and his friends are thrown into the prison arena to fight for their lives, the women (Saeko, Rei, Saya, Shizuka and Rika) are all forced to strip down to their underwear, much to the delight of Shido and his twisted followers.
  • Wardens Are Evil: I mean, the new warden of the prison is Shido. Kinda goes without saying.
  • What Are You in For?: While Takashi and his friends are locked up, they're approached by a prisoner named Jin who's willing to help them escape. Naturally, since he was locked up before the apocalypse, they ask him why he was arrested. Jin explains his story to earn their trust.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Oh, boy, this one hurts. Thanks to Rika's radio, everyone's finally able to get in touch with their families, who are alive and well...everyone except Takashi's, whose parents were killed by zombies.
    • Adding insult to injury, Rei is forced to tell Hisashi's parents that their son is dead.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: This is Highschool of the Dead we're talking about, so of course.
