Sly Cooper and Carmelita Fox and the Thievius raccoonus is a Sly Cooper fanfic by LesterThePoet59 that portrays Carmelita Fox as a member of the Cooper Gang, the plot a remake of Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus in this context.

The fanfic can be found on Archive of Our Own here and FanFiction.Net here.

Sly Cooper and Carmelita Fox and the Thievius raccoonus has the examples of:

  • Adaptation Expansion: While Carmelita's canon-counterpart did not have much in the way of backstory beyond "unscrupulous hero cop with a heart of gold", here she has her own fully-fleshed out backstory that closely parallels Sly's; she is descended from a long-line of Cowboy Cops with their own Great Big Book of Everything of crime-fighting techniques (The Guardius Vulpinus), her parents killed by the Fiendish Five because they saw the Fox Family as a threat, Carmelita being dumped at the same orphanage as Sly, Bentley and Murray.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: In canon, Carmelita was an ill-tempered Interpol agent with unflinching faith in the law and a compassionate center, only teaming up with Cooper when she has no other choice and otherwise having a Dating Catwoman dynamic with Sly. Here, she is far less committed to the strong-arm of the law despite having pride in her Hero Cop family legacy, considering she makes special exception to the Cooper Gang and is dating their leader.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In canon, Sly and Carmelita have a Dating Catwoman dynamic where Carmelita tries to catch Sly for his thieving ways and Sly evades her, their relationship never moving out of it in-spite of the copious amount of ship-teasing and implied next-step taking at the end of Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves. Here, they had been childhood friends since their days at the orphanage. By the time the plot of Thievius Raccoonus kicks into gear, they have long since started dating and Sly intends on proposing to her once they have reclaimed their respective lexicons from the Fiendish Five.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Like in canon, Muggshot lampshades that his desire to create his very own Vegas-style gambling empire in Mesa City is made exponentially harder considering he and his goons drove out its entire population and responds to intruders with ultra-violence. It gets to the point where he's genuinely worried that he will be too bankrupt to carry any other criminal endeavors and his Mooks will walk out if they don't mutiny first.
  • Dirty Cop: Of the Anti-Hero variety. Carmelita is the secret "Fourth Member" of the Cooper Gang, using her connections at Interpol to help gather intel for the gang and faking her hunt for them to maintain her cover. Since the Cooper Gang are an Anti-Hero Team of Karmic Thieves, she is less corrupt or Butt-Monkeyish than other examples of the trope.
  • The Dreaded:
    • When Clockwerk informs Muggshot of Raleigh's incarceration, he is visibly intimidated by his boss despite being the Five's most physically imposing member.
    • Plus, there is Mz. Ruby, who is definitely terrified of him, when he messages her on her Crystal Ball about Muggshot, and Raleigh's defeat. Despite being his magically strong member.
  • Establishing Series Moment: The first chapter remakes the first level of the first game, ending with Carmelita "failing" to shoot down Sly at the precinct after he steals intel from her office... only for Carmelita to regroup with him, Bentley and Murray, congratulating themselves for the False Flag Operation they pulled before they devolve into kissing.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Carmelita uses Spanish words sometimes, generally, when she's flirting with Sly.
  • Light/Darkness Juxtaposition: It is called-out in story how similar Sly and Carmelita are while maintaining this type of dynamic; both have rich family legacies (Sly's family being master thieves, Carmelita's being in law enforcement), have created a family book passed on from parent to child that hones their skills (the Thievius Racooonus and the Guardius Vulpinus), only for the Fiendish Five to come and orphan the both of them and take their books because they saw them as a threat, leading to Sly and Carmelita to wind up in the same orphanage and form the gang to reclaim their respective heritages and defeat the Fiendish Five.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: According to Word of God, Carmelita's secret — that she is actively working with the Cooper Gang as its secret member and Sly's lover — is in no danger from the Fiendish Five when they work together to take them out out of personal Pride.
