Fanfic / Shang Chi And The American Dragon

Go To

Shang-Chi and the American Dragon is a crossover with Shang-Chi and American Dragon: Jake Long by Epiclot214.

Fleeing from his warlord father, Shang-Chi arrives in New York city. There he meets and befriends Jake Long, the very first American Dragon and protector of magic creatures. Now the two fight side by side to defend the magical world from the forces of the darkness.

  • Adaptational Origin Connection:
    • J. Jonah Jameson is seen giving a report in this version of New York, typically slandering superheroes.
    • The villain Task Master is in league with the Huntsclan.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Jimmy Woo is more nervous and timid in this fic.
  • Age Lift: In the comics and MCU, Shang-Chi, Katy, and Jimmy Woo were young adults. Here, they're around the same age as Jake, Trixie, and Spud.
  • Bittersweet Ending: In the first chapter, Shang-Chi and Jake have saved Lao Shi from the Huntsman and Huntsgirl and become friends and partners. However, the Huntsman, realizing the threat Shang-Chi poses to their goals, decides to level the playing field by summoning Taskmaster.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Shang-Chi utterly kicks both Huntsgirl and the Huntsman's butts when he and Jake rescue Lao Shi from them.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: The Huntsman can't understand why Shang-Chi, a human, would fight alongside a dragon instead of helping him wipe magical creatures out.
  • Fusion Fic: This fic not only combines the world of Shang-Chi and American Dragon Jake Long, but some of Epiclot214's other fics also share this universe as mentioned by J. Jonah Jameson. Such as Spider Man training an apprentice with the same powers, a female Hulk in Middleton, and aliens in Hawaii.
  • Mythology Gag: Jake and Shang-Chi attend a karaoke party after ultimately deciding to shirk responsibility (i.e Lao Shi's training).
  • Not So Above It All: Like his MCU counterpart, Shang-Chi is responsible but not apposed to goofing off and having fun when he should be attending his responsibilities.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: When Shang-Chi meets Trixie and Spud, the latter calls him Shaun by mistake. When Jake's about to correct him, Shang-Chi insists that name works fine. When Jake later asks why, Shang-Chi says that it's complicated.
  • We Can Rule Together: During their fight, the Huntsman tries to convince Shang-Chi to join him in wiping out magical creatures. Shang-Chi of course refuses.
  • Wham Line:
Huntsman: It appears we only have one option. (Takes out a cellphone and answers) Get me Taskmaster.
