Go To

Remnant is a Young Justice (2010)/Five Nights at Freddy's crossover fic by Moonview.

Michael Afton thought this was the end: a brutal death at the hands of his father by psychotic animatronics. He never expected to turn up alive at Gotham Hospital, but the number of people also interested in his story means his troubles are just beginning.

This fanfic can also be read here on Archive of Our Own.

Remnant contains the following examples:

  • Abusive Parents: William's abusive treatment from canon is expanded upon to reveal he intended to mold Michael into a killer like him, and was spying on him and experimenting on him.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Kate Kane, best known as Batwoman, makes her first appearance during the events of the third season of Young Justice as one of the various background members of the Justice League. This fic, set during the events of the first season, has a younger Kate, closer in age to Aqualad, appear much earlier as one of Henry's nieces, who has yet to suit up as a vigilante.
    • Gregory, the protagonist of Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, which was set decades after Michael and Henry died in Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, appears as William Afton's son.
  • Badass Normal: Michael's purple skin and healing aside, he has no powers, and has to rely on gadgets when battling enemies.
  • Bears Are Bad News: The Team's mission in India adds a Kobra Venom-mutated bear to the selection of mutant animals that Brain created, with Michael being forced to battle it (likely a nod to his experience at Freddy's) while the rest of the Team is dealing with the elephants, vultures, crocodiles, and wolves each member encountered in the original episode. Like the other animals, it is controlled via a collar, and stops being aggressive once Michael breaks it.
  • Cool Uncle: Uncle Henry is a very genial man who even visits Michael and tries to apologize for everything that happened to him.
  • Cooldown Hug: Henry gives Michael one in the midst of his breakdown over everything that went wrong in his life.
  • Do Not Taunt Cthulhu: Michael chews himself out for making an angrily sarcastic retort to the Batman of all people. Batman, however, limits his frustration to a twitch of the lip.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: William Afton is considered so horrific that even Sportsmaster (himself another Abusive Dad) warns Artemis to stay away from him when she is forced to go to her father for help when William kidnaps Michael.
  • Healing Factor: Michael surviving being scooped is expanded into a full-blown ability to heal wounds, stated to be the result of the remnant infused into his body.
  • It's All My Fault: Michael feels that everything bad that happened, from nearly dying to the breakdown of his family, is all on him and even deserves the suffering and misery he’s been put through.
  • Named In The Adaptation: William Afton's wife is briefly mentioned to be named "Clarissa". His wife, while often theorized about and only really acknowledged in Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, was never officially named in canon, though "Clara", the wife from "The Immortal and the Restless" (which is sometimes theorized to be a metaphor for the Afton Family) is often stated to be her name in theories, thus, "Clarissa" is often a long form of "Clara".
  • No One Could Survive That!: Michael and others note that the death trap he was shoved into wasn’t normally survivable.
  • Papa Wolf: Uncle Henry to Michael. He makes it clear he does not want reporters or anyone else harassing Michael while he’s recovering in the hospital and is pissed when he realizes Michael’s father was, at best, neglecting his son and at worst.
  • Pokémon Speak: Secret can still only speak her name, but unlike Artemis and Zatanna, Michael is shown to hear her speaking normally.
  • Related in the Adaptation:
    • Kate Kane and Bette Kane, known in the comics as Batwoman and Flamebird, are the nieces of Henry in this continuity.
    • Gregory is William Afton's newest son in this fic. In canon, he was entirely unrelated, despite his strong resemblance to the Crying Child (who is often theorized to be William's son).
  • Team Member in the Adaptation:
    • Michael Afton, codenamed Remnant, is later recruited into the Team around the same time as Artemis.
    • William Afton eventually becomes associated with the Light when Lex Luthor meets with him, even helping make the Starro-tech.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Michael gets told by a lot of people, including his Uncle Henry and Black Canary, that he shouldn’t be too hard on himself despite his mistakes.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Henry is appalled when he thinks Batman is accusing him of using his company to kill kids.
