I'm Going to Become King of the Pirates

One Piece Final Saga Alternative is an Alternate Universe Fic for the finale of One Piece that is currently ongoing and written by Roam Home For Glory.

After Luffy defeats Kaido and leaves Wano, his crew goes to Elbaf, where he and his crew are graciously invited. It then turns out it is actually a war council to eliminate the ancestral enemies of the Giants, the Faeries, and Elves of Alcaf. What follows is a set of revelations and unpleasant truths that shake the crew to their core.

It currently has three arcs-

Elbaf Arc- Chapters 1-54

Coronation Arc- Chapters 55-59

Void Century Arc- Chapter 60-70.It has currently ended with a cliffhanger at Chapter 70.

''One Piece Final Saga Alternative' provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy: Several Characters in the original story that are more amoral or heroic have much more villainous traits.
    • Shanks of all people. In the original story, he's the Token Good Teammate of the Emperors after fellow benevolent Whitebeard was killed and prior to Luffy's inclusion into the group, with only some hidden unscrupulous traits. In this fanfic, he cuts off Luffy's right arm and leg and destroys Luffy's right eye when he disagrees about killing a potential future crew-mate for being born what they are.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: As strong as the Grand Line is it's revealed to be pitifully weaker than the other 15 lines, with even one of the implied weakest leaders being able to trounce Roger with ease.
  • Arc Villain: Farbuit/ Rogberi is set up to be this early on before the true one Leviathan upstages him in sheer power and malevolence by eating him and then Shanks manages to upstage both as the final threat of the arc.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Luffy suffers this during his first real serious fight with Shanks, leading to him losing his right arm and leg in addition to his right eye- needing artificial limbs made of Gaia's Blood metal and an eyepatch over his now missing eye. He doesn't mind as much as losing his hat after Shanks decides to take it back.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Shanks finishes the first serious fight with Luffy by cutting off the latter's right leg/arm, destroying his right eye, and taking back his Straw Hat. Unlike most examples, as the hat was given as a promise to return it once he had become a great pirate, which happened after he defeats Kaido, but the circumstances paint it as a complete lack of faith in Luffy, which leads to several chapters long Despair Event Horizon on par with experiencing Ace's death first hand.
  • Awful Truth: Several over the course of the final saga.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Ultimately, Farbuit turns out to be this, due to being an imposter named Rogberi that murdered the true one, gets easily beaten, and gets eaten by the true villain of the arc, Leviathan who manages to surpass him in sheer power and scope by a wide margin.
  • Canon Foreigner: The fanfic takes bits and pieces of the anime only cast and adds them in while modifying their roles.
    • Douglas Bullet is portrayed as his age in Stampede while as a member of Roger's crew.
    • Ulti is still Shanks' daughter, but this fact is more shocking due to Luffy not knowing her in this adaptation.
    • Carnia is implied to have still met Nami, but has also become Nojiko's wife during the timeskip.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Several over the course of the fanfic.
    • Luffy's first fight with Shanks is very one-sided, but the end stands out with him cutting off fifty percent of the young man's limbs and eyes.
  • Eyepatch of Power: After suffering a loss of his right eye to Shanks, Luffy permanently wears a black eyepatch, which makes him look more pirate-like in appearance.
  • Eye Scream: Luffy loses his right eye to Shanks in their first serious fight, forcing Luffy to wear an eyepatch from then on.
  • Fantastic Racism: Several over the course of the fanfic.
    • The Giants used to be friends with the Dwarfs until Farbuit manages to turn the former against the latter, causing the once trusted allies to be reduced to slaves that are rarely mentioned.
    • The Faeries and Elves have suffered so much discrimination and were treated like things abused by humanity that they hid in Alcaf to avoid being hunted for amusement. Needlessly to say, the Faeries and Elves are hellbent on killing off Humanity along with their enemy Elbaf.
    • Alcaf and Elbaf have been hated enemies for nearly a millennia for one reason The former betrayed Joyboy to Imu in exchange for being left alone and Elbaf being Joyboy's sworn ally never forgave this.
  • Hero Killer: Leviathan kills Litr, Yasopp- downplayed due to being Evil All Along, almost the entire East Blue including Syrup Village, Elbaf- though they are brought back and Bon Kurei.
  • Kick the Dog: As expected of a series with villains who do this on a daily basis in its original canon, this fanfic has several examples.
    • Hel tells Big Mom the Awful Truth that the one person she admired Mother Caramel not only did not care for her, but was only nice to her due to being a powerful asset to sell to the government as a potential Marine or assassin. And that she is also a flawed attempt of replicating Ataxia, the holder of the "Ancient Weapon"/the Avatar of Gaia, and the daughter of the Pirate King of the Cosmic Sea, Chaos in spite of being the only one to make it past infancy. Given that Elbaf was going to execute her anyway, this revelation had no real point than driving the victim to despair for no real reason. Even the Straw Hats that have every reason to hate her, are thoroughly disgusted by this action.
    • A downplayed yet poignant example from Shanks that reveals his unscrupulous traits happens once he reveals his intent to kill Minerva for the greater good, concluding his fight with Luffy cutting off 50% of his protege's limbs and eyes before taking back the Straw Hat- the last of which causes a Heroic BSoD on the level of experiencing Ace's Death firsthand- simply for trying to defend her, though he does remorseful after he does this.
      • A straighter and inexcusable action he later does when he sinks Fishman Island to get Shirahoshi for the same reasons as wanting Minerva dead with the revelations of them being a part of the same group of "Ancient Weapons/Pieces", but being beyond excessive as he had the physical literal means in his arseanal of taking her without robbing the Fishmen of their home, yet he did so anyway, thus due to having the Straw Hat at the time, turns out to be the Straw Hat of Madam Shyarly's prediction. And he fully intends to do the same to Arabasta to get Vivi.
    • Leviathan does this the minute he's revealed as an imposter turning Eitri into a monster in an attempt to destroy Elbaf, gloats about killing Litr, and nearly does the same to Usopp, all in his introduction
      • He soon tops this by destroying a massive portion of East Blue including Syrup Village and Orange Town; kills Yasopp in front of Usopp by turning into his dead wife to get a cheap shot in, and eats the animals at Island of Rare Animals.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The arc starts off on the precipice of a war, but while it does have a lot of deaths in the first Faerie invasion of Elbaf including some Giant Vice Admirals, it still has some light-hearted Mood Whiplash to prevent it from getting too dark, the moment Shanks reveals his intention to kill one of Luffy's potential new allies, reveals himself to be more ruthless than assumed, and proceeds to deal Luffy his most physically and emotionally crushing defeat that leaves him in a state of despair whenever he focuses on that incident is when the story takes a much darker turn. He would later top this by by destroying Fishman Island to get Shirahoshi and while everyone survived, it still proved that he was the Straw Hat of the prophecy to destroy the island and how far he's willing to go to destroy what he deems dangerous.
    • The appearance of the Devil, Leviathan leads to the crew's third defeat on Elbaf, but he truly becomes this when he faces Usopp managing to not only kill Yasopp, but countless islands in the East Blue including Syrup Island and Orange Town including Usopps' crew in the case of the former. All culminating in his callous murder of Bentham/Bon Kurei. Not to mention the sheer power he displays in wiping out the East Blue is on a scale that no enemy since Whitebeard has displayed, but much more devastating as he lacks the late Emperor's sense of restraint by a large margin.
  • The Needs of the Many: This is the motivation Shanks in this iteration of the story being more openly villainous. He views having the Pieces which include Nami, Yamato, Minerva, Robin by proxy of being Minerva's descendant of a child born of rape, Vivi, Big Mom with her family due to a very convoluted connection to the actual host- Ataxia, Boa Hancock, Carrot, Rebecca, Mansherry, etc. rendered Deader than Dead is a disgusting but necessary action due to knowing so many pirates and the government wanting to exploit them for nefarious ends, even if it forever alienates him from those who find his actions monstrous.
  • Original Character: Several over the course of the fanfic.
    • Notably, the rational witch, Minerva who soon becomes the Straw Hat's Chief of Staff.
    • The Ten Commandments, the other leaders of Cipher Pol Zero, the additional five members of the Five Elders, the Nine Realm Guards, Alcaf, Mare, Jeanne, and the vast majority of Rocks' crew.
  • Properly Paranoid: As reprehensible his actions were to prevent this, Shanks was right about the other Lines being dangerous and needing to be prevented from access, especially after his death, it's proven painfully correct as Mary Geoise is almost razed to the ground with ease by every of these outside Pirates and the criminal activity skyrockets due to more Pirates to add to the already mess-up world, making it even worse than before.''
  • The Reveal: Several over the course of the fanfic.
    • The most notable one would be in chapter 18 which reveals the nature of the One Piece- That she is a girl with special powers with the designation of Zeus living on Laughing Tale and that she's a part of a large group of similarly powered girls that have been revealed as Ancient Weapons prior to the arc-like Poseidon (Shirahoshi), but also seemingly unrelated ones such as Pluton being Nefertari Vivi and Uranus being Nami. With the rest being heavily implied to be Carrot, Yamato, Boa Hancock, etc.
    • Chapter 21 reveals that Rocks D. Xebec is Marshall D. Teach's father, but also Monkey D. Luffy's maternal grandfather via his mother being one of Rock's daughters.
  • Samus Is a Girl: While Poseidon being Shirahoshi is canon, it's' revealed that all of the Ancient Weapons are actually women including Nami, Vivi, Rebecca, Kaya, Mansherry, Hancock, etc.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Each member of the crew either gets upgrades or has their initial fruits retconned into more powerful Fruits.
    • The most notable is Usopp who goes from being one of the support fighters to facing off against a literal island destroying Devil with increasingly minimal fear of the individual. On top of gaining the power of Magic and a Devil Fruit that can turn the user into a Devil Fruit
    • The others get it as well with Nami gaining the power over the weather as a Logia, Franky can make anything via his Paramecia, Zoro gets a mythic Zoan, Sanji gets a Paramecia with a unique power that has simultaneous two elements in unison similar to a Logia via a loophole abuse, Chopper can potentially become a Ganesha like creature, Robin has a Vishnu and ten avatar forms, Jimbei can turn into a crocodile, Carrot can become a Cheshire Cat with the abilities that come with being one, and Luffy gains Gear 6 and 5 sequentially stronger forms.
  • Wham Episode: Several over the course of the fanfic, though some are more prominent than others.
    • Chapter 5- The Elbaf arc seems to be just another adventure aiding the Giants against their enemies in Alcaf, but it immediately gets more complicated when Big Mom lands square in the middle of Elbaf.
    • Chapter 6- Shanks appearing on Elbaf to prevent Luffy from helping out Minerva.
    • Chapter 7-8 Shanks turns to be the son of the secret overlord of the World Government, Imu, under the name of Am, and had infiltrated Roger's crew in order to potentially assassinate him, but grew to love the man. Additionally, he is trying to kill Minerva and when Luffy stops him, Shanks responds by cutting off Luffy's right hand, leg, and eye- then taking his iconic straw hat.
    • Chapter 9 has a less significant, but prominent example in that Makino's baby is Shanks' son.
    • Chapter 10- Minerva's full name is Magi D. Minerva, someone with the Will of D.
    • Chapter 11- Luffy acts Gear 6 that turns him into a crazed berserker that kills several Marines.
    • Chapter 12: The Five Elders are actually over 800 years old through various means, they have a user with the Name-Name Fruit that can erase others from existence, Rocks D. Xebec is still alive, the Faerie leader- Mare is confirmed to be on Rocks' crew, along with Zeff, and there's a hidden room with ten users of the fourth type of Devil Fruit, Theo called the Ten Commandments, which will be awakened to destroy Warlands.
    • Chapter 13: The Four Emperors were also an organization created by the Government to control the seas, Big Mom is a failed clone of the daughter of Titan Pirate's Captain, are responsible for the Freudian Excuse of each Warlord.
    • Chapter 14: Blackbeard intends to ally with Mare.
    • Chapter 18: Odin is forced to join Rocks' crew, Rocks reveals the nature of Lodestar Island, and most significantly, One-Piece is actually a girl with special powers on Laughing Tale, and she's a part of a group of 16 other individuals with similar powers including Vivi that turned out to be Pluton, Shirahoshi being Poseidon, Namie being Uranus, and other members are heavily implied to be Carrot, Boa Hancock, Yamato, Mare, and Minerva being Athena.
    • Chapter 21: The Will of D turns to be the ability to turn into dragons and an earlier iteration of the Ten Commandments attack God Valley. Additionally, it's revealed that the entirety of the Grand Line is just one single Line with seven other lines, each with their respective Pirate King. And that finding One-Piece is a means to qualify for a massive tournament to decide the Pirate God, which the Grand Line has failed consistently to even pass the examination stage let alone the preliminary stages.
    • Chapter 22: Rocks confirms himself to be Blackbeard's father, but also Luffy's maternal grandfather due to Luffy's mother being one of Rocks' daughter. Certain families have a possibility of temporarily gaining the Devil Fruit powers of their ancestors via the Lineage Factor.
    • Chapter 23: Shanks attacks Fishman Island, thus being the one prophesied to destroy the island and not Luffy as he kidnaps Shirahoshi and heads to Arabasta to do the same to Vivi.
    • Chapter 24: Zoro's hidden eye allows him the power of Impatience Haki, the mysterious pirates who have been following them turn out to be people Luffy knew from childhood, and the white angelic lights from God's Valley appear on Elbaf.
    • Chapter 25: Usopp demonstrates a new ranged form of Haki and Robin uses her knowledge of Poneglyphs to prove herself a potential spellcaster.
    • Chapter 26: Odin is returned to his true form, Yggdrasil and its counterpart on Alcaf, Mimameid, are revealed to be the original source of the Devil Fruits, and Gaban, a long-time missing member of Roger's crew shows up at Elbaf.
    • Chapter 54: Shanks is finally defeated and with Buggy accidentally finds Roger's One-Piece and inadvertently arriving at Elbaf, the massive Hat similar to the one in Mary Geoise merges with Luffy's own. Odin bows and declares that Luffy has become The King of the Pirates of the Grand Line.
