After the end of Ch 51, instead of being killed and removed by Makima, Makima decides to keep Reze around and induct her as the newest member of Division 4, giving her and Denji the chance to pursue the relationship they never could before.
Of Bombs & Chainsaws contains examples of:
- Armor-Piercing Response: When Aki gives an Armor-Piercing Question about which Denji would choose between Makima and Reze, Denji quietly asks him which he would choose between saving Himeno and killing the Gun Devil. Aki is taken aback and simply doesn't answer.
- Brain Bleach: Hearing Power confidently state that Denji and Reze had sex, and remembering that Denji never received sex ed results in Aki having the mental image of a Chainsaw/Bomb baby pop up inside his head, almost causing him to have an aneurysm.
- Did You Just Have Sex?: While Denji and Reze didn't have sex on their first night together, the fact that he comes back home in a very good mood and covered in Reze's scent leads Power, and by extension, Aki, to believe he did before Denji clarifies that they just kissed and cuddled.
- Hidden Agenda Villain: Despite Makima choosing to spare and recruit Reze rather than just erase her like in canon, it's never at any point suggested that Makima has undergone any kind of Adaptational Heroism, which only makes the divergence in her decision all the more ominous. Reze in particular is incredibly suspicious of Makima's motivations and starts trying to find ways to voice them to Denji without alerting Makima.
- Insecure Love Interest: Reze has a bit of this upon being informed that Denji waited for her for nine hours at the cafe the day she was taken in by Makima, almost being brought to tears by the realization he was so devoted to her, and leading herself to wonder whether she deserves his affection.
- Oh, Crap!: Kobeni has this reaction after being told by Reze that she and Denji are dating, since she was just prior describing Denji in very unflattering terms and scoffing at the idea of anyone being interested in him.
- Piggy Back Cute: Denji and Reze have this at the end of her first day working at Division 4, carrying her on his back all the way from the cafe to her new assigned apartment, even offering to carry her up the stairs, despite her apartment being on the fifth floor.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Aki is not at all happy at the idea of working with Reze, seeing as how she killed many Devil Hunters, some of whom were his friends, just prior to her being inducted.
- What If?: The fic asks what would happen if Reze was recruited into Division 4 by Makima instead of killed.
