- Kenji, oh so much. Simply by feeling out the effects of certain magical spells – up to and including a high-level purification trying to scour his own soul clean, even – he's able to learn how to replicate them.
- Ajuka also shows off shades of this. He deduces that Adam's attack on Hell had been done entirely on a whim, by observing how the rate that Adam was transforming unwillingly reincarnated devils back into humans or youkai had been increasing. As well as the fact that Adam is most likely Japanese, based on the notoriously hands-off Shinto pantheon's reaction to the event.
- Beware of the Nice Ones: Kenji is a nice guy, but harm innocent people in front of him and he will take offense. As Hanezu Himejima and Purple Flame Augusta both learn to their detriment.
- Demonic Possession: The Tamamo-no-Mae sealed in the urn possesses Kenji ,the moment he removed the talisman holding her in the urn.
- De-power:Tamamo-no-Mae's powers are gone due to Kenji jumping into the Sacred Pool of Inari while being possessed by her evil half, she now has to train again to get back to her earlier strength.
- Don't Touch It, You Idiot!: Kenji was warned by his sister to not go to a shrine with an evil spirit, he heads there straight for a chance to train.
- Expy: Kenji to Cid Kagenou, somewhat. Motivations, the rate at which they attain new levels of godlike power, even their unorthodox ways of attaining them are very similar. They are both Oblivious to Love and have a group of females as their helpers. But that's where the similarities end.
- Heroic Sacrifice: What the Youkai Faction thinks happened, when Kenji jumped into the Sacred Pool of Inari while being possessed by the freshly-unsealed half of Tamamo-no-Mae, in a case of Taking You with Me. Instead, they both survive.
- Horrible Judge of Character: Played for Laughs. Kenji genuinely believed that Tamamo cursing him was to help him train.
- Instant Expert: Thanks to the Awesomeness by Analysis trope above, Kenji possesses inhuman levels of learning new skills, learning and mastering Shinto Magic in minutes where it would otherwise take decades in order to do so.
- Literal Split Personality: Tamamo-no-Mae was split in to two when she was sealed. One contained all her malvolence and power while the other had all her memories and knowledge.
- Magic Dance: To use it effectively, Shinto magic requires this along with a prayer to the Shinto Gods.
- Master of All: Little by little, Kenji is becoming this, almost to Showy Invincible Hero levels.
- Master of Your Domain: Becoming a Master Martial Artist turns Kenji into one. It allows him to become aware of his own spiritual and physical energies, not only feeling the precise moment his body enters puberty, but also how long it will last. He could even skip it entirely artificially if he wanted to.
- No-Sell: Curses and other soul-affecting magics have absolutely no effect on Kenji. He even considers overcoming them to be good training!
- Sealed Evil in a Six Pack:Tamamo-no-Mae was sealed in two places. Her power and malvolence were sealed in an urn in a Kyoto Shrine and her knowledge and memories were sealed in a stone called Killing Stone in Sessho-seki.
- Tailor-Made Prison: The seal placed on Tamamo-no-Mae is this.There are three paradoxical conditions a person must pass to be able to remove the seal on the urn while the seal on the Killing Stone could only be broken under the condition that she acknowledges and admits her wrong deeds, face her evil nature and overcome it.
