Go To

My Hero Pen Pal is a My Hero Academia fanfic by Mrotrax on Fanfiction Dot Net.

A rebooted version of an older story of the same name and premise, My Hero Pen-Pal features the members of Class 1-A interacting with the students of America's Kirby High School for Heroics after one of the students there helps Izuku rescue Eri from Overhaul's clutches.

The story also has a prequel called Revenge of the Mad Bomber, which can be read here

This story also has two other side fics written by the writer Autistic-Grizzly: My Hero Black Lightning which can be read here and My Hero Australiana which can be read here

This fic contains examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: By all accounts, Puppeteer's father, Gallant, was a terrible excuse of a parent underneath his superhero image.
  • Abled in the Adaptation: Oyabun Kaito is revived from his coma thanks to Dr. Kyudai Garaki.
  • Adaptational Karma: Bakugo gets some much-needed comeuppance for his bullying in this fic, something that canon absolutely lacked.
    • Bobby easily dodges Bakugo's attacks when the blonde Explosion user tries to accost him, stating that Bakugo's efforts were straight-up unimpressive.
    • Reggie uses his Quirk, Hot Air, to ignite the nitroglycerin stored in Bakugo's gauntlets after Bakugo attempts to butt into Izuku and Bobby's reunion brawl, burning Bakugo's arm before Reggie fires a stream of flames that sets Bakugo's hair on fire for good measure.
    • Nedzu, Michelle Starr, Perry, and All Might dig up Bakugo's files and the recording of him making his Suicide Dare to Izuku, giving him an ultimatum to change himself or get expelled from UA.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Denki reveals himself to be the nephew of American Pro Hero Elecplant
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Nemuri Kayama is stated to be in a relationship with Michelle Starr.
  • Back from the Dead: Dr. Garaki manages to resurrect Magne from her untimely death at Overhaul's hands.
  • Badass Normal: Everyman, despite not having a Quirk of any sort, is more than capable of taking on villains thanks to his skills at hand-to-hand combat and numerous gadgets to make up for his lack of superpowers.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Bobby's older sister Rachel defended her brother from the rest of their sisters bullying, even entrusting her friend Michelle with his care and sacrificing herself so that he could live on as she faced an army of villains during the Gang War.
  • Break the Haughty: Equinox deals with Overhaul by psychically projecting a vision of Oyabun Kaito lambasting Kai Chisaki for his horrific actions, shattering the Yakuza leader's ego and leaving him open for Izuku to knock him out with a punch to the face.
    • Overhaul's humiliation only gets worse after the League of Villains get their hands on him, as the now-revived Kaito disowns him from the Shie Hassaikai before the others relieve him of his limbs and leave him at the mercy of Crunch Chomp.
  • Expy:
    • Showdown and Quatal are based upon Erron Black and Kotal Kahn.
    • Many students from Kirby High are based on RWBY characters
      • Megumi Deedee is basically an older Penny Polendina.
      • Terrance is Cardin Winchester with piercings, albeit with a much better personality than the character he's based on.
      • Riley is based on Ruby Rose, Brittany is based on Yang Xiao Long, and Nancy is based on Weiss Schnee.
      • Natalie is based on Nora Valkyrie.
      • Isebella is based on Blake Belladonna with some elements of Zorro.
      • Reggie is based on Lie Ren.
      • Bobby is a Composite Character of Jaune Arc and Oscar Pine, with the former's physique, hair, and outfit along with the latter's personality.
      • Puppetress is based upon Cinder Fall, more specifically her incarnation in the first three seasons of RWBY.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Feedback, despite being a member of Puppetress' villain posse, has nothing but respect for his mother, who tried her best to provide for him and his sister.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason why Puppeteer has it out for Hero society was because of the abuse she received from her father Gallant, who, under his public persona as a noble superhero, was a hypocritical, sexist, and racist bastard who beat up his daughter and wife without provocation. As such, when her grandfather gave Puppeteer permission to cut loose on Gallant after his dirty laundry was aired out for the world to see, she accepted the proposition with glee.
  • Reformed Bully: Terrance states in his "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Bakugo that he used to be just like him in being a complete asshole until someone proved to Terrance that he wasn't as tough as he thought himself to be, which helped him learn the value of teamwork and humility.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: The League of Villains proceed to torture Kai Chisaki after they capture him, but considering how much of a Stupid Evil asshole the guy was, he had every second of his torment coming for him.
  • Pen Pals: Izuku and Bobby have been writing each other letters since they were kids and have been best friends ever since.
  • Point of Divergence: Izuku and Mirio are able to rescue Eri much earlier since they got to meet Equinox and Everyman, formulating a plan that allows them to quickly rescue the little girl and apprehend her captors.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Terrance tells Bakugo that beneath his aggressive posturing, he's nothing more than a wimp with delusions of grandeur and a massive sense of entitlement who will be tossed aside as soon as someone proves that he isn't hot shit.
