Marc is in a gang. Let's see what shenanigans this gets him and his boyfriend into.

Marc Being In A Gang Rights is a Miraculous Ladybug fanfic by Username8746489 that can be read on Archive of Our Own here

This fanfic series contains examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Of the negligent/distant variety. Roy Corbin only ever involves Nathan in his life if it ever suited him, going for months at a time without seeing or hearing from him, only to invite him to a party for the sake of publicity. Even then he basically tries to auction his son's hand in marriage for the sake of his company without even letting Nathaniel know about it, Nathan not learning about it until he unintentionally rejects a random suitor and gets him akumatized. This is also why Nathan has his mother's last name instead of his father's.
  • Adaptational Badass: In the canon series, Marc is portrayed as a meek, insecure student with a crush, any badass moments happening only when he has been akumatized. Here, he is the youngest member of a Parisian street gang. He is perfectly capable of self-defense, has managed to talk Nathaniel out of trouble for being in possession of a knife on school grounds (having been the one to give it to him for self-defense reasons), and has aided in undoing the mugging and kidnapping of his boyfriend twice.
  • All Jews Are Ashkenazi: Canon!Nathaniel is Ambiguously Jewish. Here he devolves into speaking Yiddish when he is trying to complain about someone to their face without them knowing and even unknowingly when he is regaining consciousness, implying that it is his first language.
  • Amazon Chaser: A same-sex example. When Nathaniel sees first hand how Marc can be when crossed, especially when it's against the people who kidnapped him, Nathaniel is more impressed and turned-on than worried.
Nathaniel watched in awe as Marc gracefully glided through the crowd of people trying to attack him, dodging and dealing blows, and moving closer to him. His cheeks slowly heated up.
So he had a thing for people who could beat the shit out of him, sue him!
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Nathaniel accuses Counterspy's powers as this.
Counterspy: Don't bother. You're stuck with me.
Nathaniel: Stuck is right. What even is your power?
Counterspy: I can summon stuff out of spy movies!
Nathaniel: ...That's an extremely convoluted power.
    Counterspy: Blame Hawkmoth, not me.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Marc is seen as the "little brother" to the rest of his gang (literally, in the case of one of the other members) to the point where after their first date, Nathaniel gets snatched in an alleyway and held at knife point just so one of them could give him the "if you hurt him" speech to him.
  • Confronting Your Imposter: It’s when Lila tries explaining that she was the kidnap victim in a recent ransoming in front of Nathaniel, the actual kidnapping victim, does he realize that Lila is the fraud that Marinette claims her to be. While he doesn't out himself as the actual victim right away, he does point out that she has a bad habit of making every conversation about herself, a fact that seems to resonate with the others.
  • Distressed Dude: Nathaniel has been threatened by Marc's gang at knife-point, kidnapped to be held for ransom, kidnapped by a villain and is almost mugged, coincidentally by the same gang that kidnapped him.
  • Exact Words: Marc sees some people egging the Dupain-Chengs' bakery for being owned by "unsavory people". To trick them, he says he also wants to egg unsavory people and they give them some eggs, believing he also means the Dupain-Chengs. He instead eggs the eggers.
  • Gayngster: Marc is effeminate and is in a relationship with Nathaniel, but he is also the member of a gang, is proficient with knives and is good enough of a fighter that he beats up a rival gang singlehandedly when they kidnap his boyfriend.
  • Gone Horribly Right: In the very first chapter, Marc's gang snatches Nathaniel and holds a knife to his face and threatens to harm him if he hurts Marc in anyway. What they weren't intending was for Nathaniel - who is being ganged up by a group of strangers in an alleyway, pinned to a wall with a knife in his face - to start wailing in terror and bursting out into tears.
Male Gang-Member #1: Oh shit, are you crying? Yeah, I'm not dealing with that.
Marc's sister: Hey, uh, maybe don't cry?
Nathaniel: YOU WERE JUST THREATENING ME WITH KNIVES, WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
Male Gang-Member #2: Shit, Marc's gonna kill us if we made his boyfriend cry, abort, abort!
  • Honor Before Reason: When Counterspy challenges Marc (along with Ladybug and Chat Noir) to a thrilling spy-chase for ownership of Nathan, Counterspy agrees to the condition that he won't hurt any civilians... only to be blocked by Marc's gang making a blockade while the heroes easily catch-up to him from the rooftops. Then why Marc's sister snatches Nathaniel out of the car without him noticing, he honors their arrangement and allows Ladybug to deakumatize him without a fight.
  • Loophole Abuse: After Nathaniel was kidnapped, Marc gives him a knife to keep on hand in case something happened in the future. Lila notifies Damocles that Nathaniel has a knife in his locker and tries to get him suspended for bringing a weapon to school, only for Marc to bail him out, pointing out that Section 3, page 87, third paragraph of the school's rulebook allows knives below 5-inches (the knife itself is four inches) for self-defense purposes. The fact that it was in his locker and not being used maliciously certainly helped Marc and Nathan's case.
  • Marry Them All: While Kagami tries to honor the agreement that she would be supportive when Marinette and Adrien start dating, she could not help but feel left behind. After a bit of couching, Marc tells her that they are also seeing Luka and gets it into her head that it wasn't just Adrien she was pining for and that maybe she should be open with these feelings. By the end of the sixth chapter, Kagami has joined their relationship.
  • Nom de Mom: Nathaniel uses his mother's maiden name to hide the fact he's the heir to Corbin Weapons Manufacturing.
  • Not in Front of the Parrot!: After Nathaniel realizes that Marinette was 100% right about Lila, he complains about how annoying Lila is in Yiddish. Unfortunately, Markov understands Yiddish and translates it out loud.
Believing he could probably get away with it, he responded in Yiddish, "Ir zent akshli sheyn anoying itst az ikh trakhtn vegn im. Ir gerufn mir Nat iz efsher di ergst zakh vos ikh ken hern in meyn lebn."
    Lila blinked, "Huh?"
    Markov hummed, "I can translate!"
    Oh no.
"He said, 'You are actually pretty annoying now that I think about it. You calling me Nath is quite possibly the worst thing I could ever hear in my lifetime.' I believe it is, as you say, out of character for Nathaniel based on what you have told me, Max! I'll add it to my knowledge!"
  • Not So Stoic: When Nathaniel is grabbed by Marc's gang and threatened, as mentioned in "Gone Horribly Right," he starts crying in terror. When the gang starts freaking out, Nathaniel points out "what did you think would happen when you started threatening me with actual, real weapons?"
  • Related in the Adaptation: In canon, Marc and Marinette are just students who happen to go to the same school. Here they're cousins.
  • Royalties Heir: Nathaniel's father Roy Corbin is the owner of Corbin Weapons Manufacturing, making him the same economic class as Adrien and Chloe. The reason why he's so different from them is that he only ever interacts with his father a few times every few months at least.
  • Secretly Wealthy: Nathaniel is the heir to Corbin Weapons Manufacturing but hides the fact to avoid potential kidnappers.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Same-Sex variation. Elias Rodier, being a rich heir, has had various boyfriends in the past who only wanted him for his money. When he tries hitting on Nathaniel when Roy Corbin publicly announced that political marriages are on the table, Nathan rejects him. This is enough for Elias to have him akumatized, wanting a chance to date him because he didn't care about his money.
  • Spiteful Spit: When he is being questioned by the leader of the gang that kidnapped him, Nathaniel spits in his mouth while it was opened. When angrily questioned why he did that, he admits that he was hoping his anger would get him akumatized, leading Ladybug and Cat Noir where he was kidnapped.
  • Weapon Twirling: Marc tends to do this with his knives to show how good he is with them.
  • Woman Scorned: Gender-inverted version. When Nathan rejects Elias' advances, he gets akumatized into Counterspy and just straight-up kidnaps him.
  • Yandere: Chloe calls Marc one when he declares that if any rich heir wants his boyfriend, they would have to go through him first.
