One SI, Seven Waifus and a whole lotta Trash.
Fate Finality is a Fate/stay night Self-Insert fanfiction by UndyingSoul98. The story follows James Branson, a Nasu nerd thrust into the Fifth Holy Grail War as the Master of seven Servants. As might be expected, the original plot goes off the rails from day one, eventually devolving into an Apocrypha scenario. Despite the ridiculous premise, the story is serious and engaging, and the main character is both relatable and interesting.

The story is posted on Sufficient Velocity and SpaceBattles, and on fanfiction.net with a slight time delay.

Fate Finality contains examples of:

  • Action Girl: Rin, Arturia, and most of James's Servants: Boudica, Medea Lily, D'Eon, and Scathach and Ereshkigal. Subverted with Kiyohime, who is useless except when she uses her Noble Phantasm, and averted with Mata Hari, who cannot fight at all despite being a Servant.
  • Alternate Self: Caster of Blue and Caster of Gray, a.k.a. Medea and Medea Lily. One is the Witch of Betrayal, and the other is the Princess of Colchis. Neither likes the other at all.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Chevalier D'Eon, Saber of Gray. The legends are so vague about their gender that, as a Servant, D'Eon might even be both. By virtue of this, they are also the closest thing James has to a bro on the Gray team.
  • Anyone Can Die: As of chapter 26; Shinji, Medusa, Iskander, even Rin and Kotomine are dead.
  • Betrayal Insurance: James tries to get this from the Blue Team and Older!Medea specifically for their alliance.
  • Cool Big Sis: Boudica for James's team. Also qualifies as Team Mom.
  • Character Development: Unlike the stereotypical power fantasy protagonist, James adapts to his situation in a recognizable, human manner. Within the first few chapters, he goes from running away to having Rider kill Shinji the moment negotiations fail. He continues to grow and change through the course of the story.
  • Charm Person: Mata Hari is this. She uses it against Waver Vervet and Iskander to great effect.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Almost every moment that James interacts with Mata Hari.
  • God in Human Form: James summon Ereshkigal, a sumerian goddess, within the corpse of Rin.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Kotomine Kirei and Matou Zouken are this.
  • Out of Focus: Because the story follows James and the Grey team primarily, several characters from the original series like Shirou are this to the story. Others are killed
  • Team Killer: The Blue Team has this at various points.
    • First by virtue of Shirou and Ilya making their own team. It ends with Assassin of Blue killing Saber of Blue.
    • Within the main Blue team, Kotomine kills Rin, it seems with the approval of the other masters.
    • Zouken orders Assassin of Blue to kill himself to win the first round of the war.
  • Team Mom: Boudica tries to play herself as the Cool Big Sis for James's team, but she also comes off as this.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: As of chapter 29, Makiri Zouken has won the first round of the war and wished to be restored to his prime.
  • Welcome Back, Traitor: The Red Team to Waver Velver/El-Melloi II after he is rid of Mata Hari's mind control.
  • Yandere: James's Berserker, Kiyohime, is the classical Japanese yandere, and practically a trope codifier. She routinely threatens to cut out James's tongue if he lies to her and throws fits if he even looks at another woman (which is often, since all his Servants are girls). Also, she can turn into a dragon when sufficiently set off.
