on DeviantArtEquestria Ninja Girls is a fanfic series arch created by Wildcard25 on Fimfiction. Also known as ChaosMagemon on Fanfiction.
The series is a crossover with My Little Pony: Equestria Girls and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012).
Set in an Alternate Universe where the Equestria Girls are part of the same universe as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the two side eventually meet and become friends. The Rainbooms are then trained to become ninjas by Splinter and together with the Turtles and their many allies and friends, go on some amazing adventures in New York City, Canterlot, and Beyond.
Although an AU, the series remains canon with both shows, with only a few minor differences.
Tropes:
- Action Girl: The Rainbooms as usual, amped up once they become ninjas.
- Adaptational Badass: The Rainbooms, as mentioned above, become skilled fighters after being trained by Splinter and received ninja weapons of their own. Once, they received their geodes, they use their magic in tandem with their ninjutsu training.
- The rest of the students of Canterlot High also gain ninja training of their own to fight the bad guys.
- Adaptation Expansion: This au series extends the 2012 TMNT franchise past season 5 and also brings in TMNT characters from other incarnations.
- Alternate Universe: This fanfic series is often a retelling of episodes, specials, and movies from both the TMNT and MLP franchises. Written to mash-up the two worlds.
- Birds of a Feather:
- Mikey and Pinkie Pie get along well with each other due to them both being Cloudcuckoolanders.
- Sunset finds a kinship with Fugitoid as they both committed horrible wrongdoings in the past that they aren't proud of and now wish to make things right.
- The Bus Came Back: Characters from both shows make returns in the fics where both sides meet them.
- Character Development: Being an AU, many of the characters go through this.
- In Friendship School, Mikey's brothers, friends, the Mane Six, and Starlight apologize for not believing him about Cozy Glow and promise to listen more. Sunset Shimmer even Pinkie Promises to.
- Crossover: With the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Equestria Girls/My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. This fic has also had multicrossovers with other shows.
- Canon Welding: The Turtles and the Rainbooms share the same universe in this fic. As do other franchises, such as Carmen Sandiego, Spy Racers, Kim Possible, Growing Up Creepie, Paw Patrol, Gi Joe, Mighty Ducks, and many more...
- Cassandra Truth:
- In Equestria Batgirls and Forgotten Friendship, Mikey's brothers still don't believe him about Pizzaface. And neither do the Rainbooms. This is also Subverted as the Titans and Batgirl believe him. And in Forgotten Friendship, human Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy believe him as well.
- In Friendship School, Mikey is the only one who sees through Cozy Glow's innocent mask, but his brothers, friends, and even pony Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy don't believe him. Also subverted, as his brothers believe him before they walk into Cozy Glow's trap with the Mane Six, after realizing there's some logic in his claim.
- Chick Magnet: A portion of equestrian magic turned Blade Swipe into this, causing any girl who lays eyes on him to instantly fall in love with him and chase him around (minus the Rainbooms who are immune to it due to their own magic and Trixie who is already in love with Blade Swipe).
- Downer Ending: Or Epilogues in this case. Also doubles as Sequel Hook.
- At the end of the first fic the Rainbooms and Twilight's human counterpart arrive in Equestria and tell Twilight and their pony counterparts that the earth and everyone they loved was destroyed, caused by the Triceratons unleashing the Blackhole Generator.
- And at the epilogue of Turtles of Everfree the Rainbooms are called by the Leo, informing them about Splinter's death at the hands of Super Shredder.
- In the last epilogue of Equestria Batgirls, Kraang Subprime meets and teams up with fellow rouge utrom Bixilio to get revenge on the Turtles and Rainbooms.
- At the epilogue of Equestria Ninja Girls on a Yacht, Grogar revives the Dark Turtles to join his Legion of Doom in preparation for the Turtles eventual return to Equestria.
- Expansion Pack Past: Both Shinigami and Bebop's backstories remained a mystery in canon, but in this series, their pasts are revealed.
- Shinigami was an orphan turned vigilante before Karai recruited her for the Foot Clan.
- Bebop was a former student at VILE academy before his theft of the Kuboto and his mutation.
- The Game Come to Life: In one episode of Magical Mayhem, a form of equestrian magic entered a game console which sucked the Turtles, the Rainbooms, and their friends into the game Sweetie Belle was playing.
- Hopeless Suitor: Trixie is madly in love with Blade Swipe, not knowing he already has eyes on Tempest Shadow back in his world.
- In Spite of a Nail: Even though it's an AU, the storylines that are retellings of TMNT and MLP episodes, specials, and movies are still or happen the same as in canon, with only some small changes.
- Interspecies Friendship: The Rainbooms, who are humans, are friends with the Turtles. And the Turtles become friends with the ponies and creatures of Equestria. Leonardo and Twilight Sparkle from both worlds are also in a Interspecies Romance.
- Running Gag: Almost everyone the Ninjas meet find Spike being able to talk more surprising than four mutant turtles, much to Spike's annoyance.
- Series Fic: The first fic spawned multiple sequels and fan tribute fics.
- Ship Tease: Some characters get this treatment, but Leonardo and Twilight Sparkle receive it the most. When she's not around, it's her human counterpart, Sci-Twi, getting this treatment with Leo.
- Keno and Indigo Zap also share some moments and eventually become a couple.
- Tomato Surprise: While the Mutant Apocalypse episode was a Bad Future AU in canon, The Stinger reveals that the whole apocalyptic sequence of events turns out to be nothing more than a comic book being drawn and written by Sunset, with the cover having the episode title and Turtles and Rainbooms in their apocalyptic looks.
