DT Magic AU is a DuckTales (2017) AU Fan Fiction by twilighteve.

Some people have magic. The Duck-McDuck family just happens to be some of those people.

The entire collection can be read here

Tropes in DT Magic AU:

  • Alternate Universe: In this AU, everyone in the Duck-McDuck family has some sort of magic along with a few characters outside of the family in the DuckTales (2017) universe.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Scrooge is aggravated by his family's magical affinity and wishes there was some way to make it go away. Then they come in contact with an artifact that does just that; unfortunately, the magic is so much a part of those who wield it that attempting to remove it nearly kills them (rather painfully at that).
  • Born Lucky: Gladstone to no one's utter surprise except this time there's a name for his supernatural good luck: Fortune-Favored.
  • Born Unlucky: Justified this time in Donald's case since besides being a Sea-Called he's also Luck-Scorned due to Gladstone's magic being Fortune-Favored. Word of God mentioned it was like a way for the universe to right itself. For every Fortune-Favored there has to be a Luck-Scorned too in order for there to be balance in the universe.
  • Broad Strokes: In order to properly fuse DuckTales (2017) and Legend of the Three Caballeros together, Word of God was forced to change a few things around.
    • While Donald had no idea who Daisy was since he only recently met her in season 3, he knew April, May, and June.
    • Instead of Donald being distracted during the Caballeros adventures because of Daisy, it was due to worrying about Della and Scrooge when they go on their own adventures.
    • Donald still went to the therapy with the yeti's but instead of it being because of relationship counseling. Xander, Jose, and Panchito sent him there because they were worried about his anger issues.
    • In regards the canonicity of the episodes aired after "The Rumble for Ragnorak" (as this AU began during the summer 2020 hiatus), while most of them are still canon to this AU, the ones that contradict it aren't 100% canon like "The Phantom and the Sorceress" (due to Lena's magic not being totally separated from Magica here (though she still has her own magic that she hasn't realized yet)) and a couple getting minor modifications like the kids being more careful in choosing their god powers in "New Gods on the Block" due to experiencing powers going haywire here and them still not knowing Drake is Darkwing Duck in "Let's Get Dangerous".
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Donald can only control ocean water, not other bodies of water. Unless, he's using the amulet from Legend of the Three Caballeros which amplifies his magic so he can literally control any body of water there is.
  • Crossover: With Legend of the Three Caballeros when Felldrake comes to take revenge and its revealed that Donald, Jose, and Panchito used to be the Three Caballeros
  • Demonic Possession: At first it seemed like Felldrake and Shellgoose were willingly Sharing a Body when the series ended. As it turns out sometime before the main story started, Felldrake must have taken complete control of him because Donald quickly notes how differently he was acting. Not to mention, another huge give away was that Shellgoose's magical signature changed which isn't suppose to be possible as each one is suppose to be unique to that person.
  • Elemental Powers: Elemental is a type of magic that certain characters in this AU possesses.
    • Huey has an affinity to fire and his magic is called Flame-Born.
    • Dewey has a natural affinity to lightning and his magic is called Lightning-Kissed.
    • Donald's magic has to do with the water and been classified as Sea-Called.
    • Louie and Scrooge's has an affinity to gold and it's been referred as Gold-Touched.
    • Della's has an affinity to the wind and her magic has been known as Sky-Called.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: It's briefly implied that Shellgoose felt remorse before Felldrake took over again when Louie asks a Armor-Piercing Question to him if they even had hearts after finding out they killed multiple Gold-Touched people in failed rituals attempts to gain power. According to Shellgoose's reaction, it's hard to say how much he actually agreed with and supported that while Felldrake was in possession of his body since he seemed rather upset.
  • Friend to All Living Things: According to the Word of God, because of Fethry's close relationship with his krills. His magic is called the Beast-Whispered which makes him very in tune with animals.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: A much lighter case of this, Donald noticed that Louie was starting to isolate himself just a bit from his brothers since he didn't appear to have powers unlike his brothers. Thankfully, this didn't last long after the boys moved into the mansion and Louie leaned he had Gold-Touched magic.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: When your brothers are able to burst into fire and zap people with electricity, it's hard not to feel left out when you appear to be perfectly normal. Donald in particular notices this is how Louie feels after he starts distancing himself from his brothers slightly.
  • Lie to the Beholder: This is the type of magic Goldie possesses. She figured out when she was young, whatever mask she pretends she's wearing can trick people into thinking she's whatever she wants them to believe. Whether appearing trustworthy and innocent or using it to seduce men or look like she's parental figure material.
  • Making a Splash: Donald's power is this, though he can only control sea water unless he's magically amplified.
  • Noodle Incident: One of the shared dreams Donald and Della had happened to have was about Della's mysterious husband. According to Donald he was an ass and was rather upset that Della never told him what happened between them. Della pointed out that she didn't want her brother outright murdering her ex and going to prison over it. Besides, she said she handled it, whatever that means. It leads to the question what exactly happened between them that got Donald so angry...
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: A much lighter example of this happens when Scrooge is shocked and can't seem to figure out why Xandra, the goddess of adventure, chose Donald and his two old roommates over him who's been adventuring his whole life. After Xandra explains her reasoning, his face looked a lot like he swallowed a whole lemon. So, clearly he took that news well.
Scrooge: “But… I’ve been adventuring my whole life.”
Xandra: “Oh, yeah, and you’re famous for that. But you’re not my champion. There’s a difference between adventuring and taking treasures willy nilly.”
  • Secret Identity: When Donald and Della are having trouble controlling their shared dreams, Della learns that Donald used to be Paperinik much to her apparent shock. Donald's identity as one of the Three Caballeros is revealed when Felldrake returns for revenge.
  • Superpower Lottery: Finding one person born with magic is rare enough on its own but Word of God says that the entire Duck-McDuck family is a weird cesspool of people who possess magic. Donald, Della, and the triplets in particular are more powerful having active magic instead of just passive.
  • You Are What You Hate: Scrooge has always had a hatred and bias against magic so imagine his surprise when Goldie lets it slip that he possess a passive type of magic called Gold-Touched. At first, he pretends he's okay with it (with only Donald seeing through him) for the sake of his family when in reality he has trouble dealing with the knowledge that he and his family possesses magic. Later though he's shown to have completely accepted it as a part of themselves.
