I AM A TARGARYEN PRINCESS! And what are you? Some girl who read books for my dying grandfather. Oh, how prestigious!
Rhaenys to Queen Alicent, Chapter 10

Dragon Kin is an After-Action Report by Zamarak500 on the Paradox Interactive Forum. It was popular due to its original concept of allowing the readers to create the main cast, giving them a set number of traits to create their own character (although Zamarak500 remains in control of the characters after their creation). The character creation part of the AAR ended on October 25th, 2018. The story can be found on the Paradox Interactive forums here.

The story is set in The World of Ice & Fire, with the main cast consisting of Targaryen siblings. Taking place in 106 After Aegon's Conquest, King Viserys I and Prince Daemon are joined by their brothers and sisters (from oldest to youngest): Vaeron, Rhaenys, Jaelyx, Elaerys, Aegon, Maegon, Vaelyx, Aemon, Valerion, Laenara, Laegor and Valena. While some of them try their best to help their brother face against the dangers to his reign, others simply follow their own ambitions.

This work provides examples of:

  • The Alliance: When Braavos tries to end slavery in Pentos, Volantis, the Stepstones and the Three Daughters come to the latter's help. It doesn't last.
  • Attempted Rape: Maegon on his sister-in-law Laena Velaryon, as she kicked him between the legs before he could get further than a kiss. He makes her life a living hell because of it, to the point she chose to leave and abandon her husband behind than staying with him around.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: The Targaryen siblings have... issues.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Daemon's conquest of the Stepstones for Elaerys. While he did gain lands and a Valyrian Sword out of it, he also lost his dragon. The war also turned him into a bitter angry man and his relationship with Daemon was damaged, possibly forever.
  • Blood Knight: Daemon and Elaerys do love their war. Maegon would probably be one too, if he had the occasion.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Vaelyx struggles with his loyalty to his family, his fellow knights of the Kingsguard and his oath to the Iron Throne. the fact that Rhaenys became queen didn't help.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: The Laegor who leads a peasant army in the Shield Islands is actually an impostor pretending to be Prince Laegor, who is widely believed to have drowned in the Narrow Sea.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Aegon has his moments.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Instead of dying in 133AC from the Winter Fever, Queen Alicent died in 108AC from greyscale.
    • Instead of surviving past 131AC, Silverwing died in the Stepstones in 108AC from wounds received in the Battle of Dark Den.
  • Dragon Rider: Obvious with the setting. Of the siblings, Daemon, Rhaenys, Elaerys, Aegon, Maegon and Valerion started the story as dragon riders. Laenara quickly joins them, while Elaerys loses his due to an injury his mount sustained during a battle.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: For all his faults, Maegon seems to genuinely love his family.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: In 109, Rhaenys finally accomplished her dream and married Viserys, becoming the queen.
  • The Good Chancellor: Zig-zagged. Aegon fills this role for Viserys, although he holds no official position. Played straight in 110, when Aegon becomes Hand of the King.
  • Happily Married: Valerion and his wife Laena Velaryon and as of 110, Aegon and Valena.
  • Heroic B So D: Aemon falls into depression after his daughter dies in his arms.
  • Jerkass: Laegor proves to be a despicable individual who can't stop himself from insulting and diminishing others, even when he shouldn't. He also showed that he's not above using his companion as human shield.
  • Leftfor Dead: Laegor. It annoys him that everyone is shocked that he survived the Narrow Sea.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Rhaenys has many powerful lovers, who she use to help further her plans.
  • Never My Fault: Laegor uses this to explain any problem he encounter. Maegon also falls into this mentality after his marriage with Laenara begins to fall apart, choosing to put all the blame on her instead of his own destructive attitude.
  • Opt Out: When the story begins, both Daemon and Vaeron have left King's Landing to fulfil their ambitions elsewhere.
  • The Quiet One: Both Vaeron and Aemon are quite shy. Vaeron has a tendency to stutter, while Aemon hates the attention and barely speak up in public.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Aegon survived his first year, unlike his canon counterpart.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: Aegon taught Valena during most of her youth. Since then, the two have developed feelings for each other, although they have yet to act on it. By mid-107, the two finally consummated their feelings and have began an affair.
  • Those Two Guys: Jaelyx and Lucamore, his bodyguard, to the point where it is rare to see one featured in a chapter without the other following Lucamore's introduction.
  • Taking the Kids: A male example with Maegon and Laenara. Laenara tried to give birth away from him, but he then litteraly stole their daughter Alyssa and used the law to ensure that Laenara won't see her again.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Everyone trying to pull off a Gyle Groster Plot by stealing King's Landing and its surrounding lands from the King while somehow believing that you'll be allow to remain a bannerman without consequences. Surprisingly, multiple such attempts had been made.
  • Word Salad Philosophy: In Chapter 88, Jason Lannister explains that since cats have nine lives, and nine is a higher number than seven, than the cats are either more powerful than the Seven or new aspects of it. Outside of his siblings, everyone agreed that it was nonsense.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Maegon takes every occasion to brutalize his squire Myles Wylde in the name of "training".
