The story starts with a newly created NEMO awakening in an Atlas facility under a Grimm attack, rock music and excessive violence ensue. But it's not all sunshine and gore, as a newly created being, NEMO will have to navigate through Remnant's deadly, long standing conspiracies and forge new bonds in fire. And maybe deal with his daddy issues along the way, a complicated thing when your creator is Arthur Watts.
Do Androids Dream of Electric Creeps? contains examples of:
- Broken Ace: Yueliang was a proud huntress in the prime of her life before Marcus Black shattered her skull, stole her semblance, and murdered her husband, unborn child, and even her dog all in quick succession of each other. She survived a physical, mental, and spiritual mess of her former self and has to live on borrowed time thanks to the brain damage she sustained from the encounter having severe complications. She shows signs of mentally healing with the support of the team, even regaining her semblance upon the defeat and following punishment of Marcus.
- Cool Toy: The magical artifact that had the Atlas crew perplexed was revealed by an amused Ozpin to be nothing but an ancient toy designed to help children train their mana back in the days of old humanity.
- Deceased Parents Are the Best: In a story full of questionable parental figures, the deceased parents were usually on the more loving side.
- Do Androids Dream?: Averted for the most part despite the story's name. NEMO and Penny's status as sapient beings is accepted thanks to their aura being tangible proof that they have souls.
- Hooker with a Heart of Gold: Maple is a sex worker but enjoys a mutually loving relationship with Dave and gives NEMO advice on the more emotionally intimate details of sex and romance.
- Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Along with being noted as decently handsome, NEMO's long hair is complimented several times throughout the story.
- Love Triangle: While NEMO and Penny's blossoming romance is the primary pairing of the story, they both get a healthy amount of ship tease with Ciel, and even Tom.
- Mounted Combat: Stella is the primary example of this along with her aura enhanced steed, Zmierzch, having years of experience with mounted combat under her belt. To a lesser extent, Winter uses her summons as combat mounts when the situation calls for it.
- Parental Issues: It would be easier to list the examples of people who don't have this.
- Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: NEMO is fond of delivering these, commonly using lines from Remnant's version of popular action movies. Dave bemoans this, grumbling 'I should never have done all that work last weekend after that Spruce Willis montage' upon discover mere minutes after NEMO is activated.
- Robo Romance: A good chunk of the story is focused on the Ship Tease between NEMO and Penny.
- Robot Dog: Caval is a Grimm stuffed inside a weaponized robot dog. He's about as friendly as can be expected.
- Robot Soldier: NEMO, and arguably Penny, were created for this purpose.
- Running Gag: Scarcely a chapter goes by where NEMO doesn't bemoan the weakness of the flesh or get enthusiastic about the idea of an organic abandoning their fleshy vessels to embrace superior cybernetic enhancements.
- Team Dad: Winter acts as a stern mentor to Team PCTN to push them to be their best, though she's certainly doing a much better job at it than her own father's attempt.
- Team Mom: Yueliang acts as a nurturing emotional support towards Team PCTN, although she isn't above getting rough when needed.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Winter and Yueliang have this going on in spades.
