Charlotte Linlin wasn't always an Emperor, and it was not so easy growing up or surviving as children of a neglectful pirate mother. Big Mom Pirates origin, from past to present.

Canon compliant backstories for the Charlotte family, with detailed events woven seamlessly into One Piece timeline. Written by SiZodiac, entire series is called To Carry the Charlotte Name, main story consisted of two parts with a couple on-going AU side stories.

This fanfiction series contains examples of:

• All of the Other Reindeer: The Charlotte children that grew up with sharp canine teeth. Katakuri, Basskarte, Poire, Nougat. A whole chapter was dedicated for this topic.
  • Prim and Praline, for their fish features. Pudding, for her third eye.
• Always Identical Twins: Six sets of identical siblings in the Charlotte family, but Tablet and High-Fat deserve special mention, because they look nothing alike. There is a good explanation for this.
• Arranged Marriage: Daifuku and Amande are the first son and first daughter to marry without choice and freedom.
  • Counter married a former CP0 agent, due to Big Mom’s arrangement.
• The Baby of the Bunch: Brulee and Broye, for being the youngest of twenty children left on an island.
• Big Brother Attraction: ... because Katakuri.
• Big Brother Instinct: Perospero, Katakuri, Oven. Not much surprises here, but the extent they are willing to go to for their younger siblings is still a marvel to see, up to and including shaving away their own lifespans.
• Big Brother Worship: Because Brother Katakuri is perfect!
• Big Eater: Runs in the family.
  • Played for drama when Linlin abandoned twenty of her children on a random island and food runs low. The oldest children had to starve, just so their younger siblings had something to eat.
• Big, Screwed-Up Family: Charlotte family, of course. They still all love each other though.
• Break the Cutie: Katakuri, his life is a long series of traumatic events that turned him into how he is in the present day.
  • Also, Charlotte family as a whole, started with a group of innocent children that eventually became the eccentric psychopaths we see in canon.
• Broken Ace: Katakuri. As perfect as in canon, technically undefeated and basically untouchable in combat, but that didn’t stop the world from screwing him over emotionally and left him mentally unstable.
• Brother–Sister Team: Special mention goes to Mascarpone and Joscarpone. Their backstory explained the reason they are especially reluctant to leave each other’s side.
• Burn the Orphanage: A devil fruit user set the twenty Charlotte children’s house on fire. Angel almost died and Opera was burned alive, they were aged 4 and aged 5 at the time.
• Child by Rape: Prim and Praline, their father was a merfolk slave and didn’t consent.
• Child Prodigy: Sweet Commanders are portrayed as this, and Flampe.
  • Katakuri is identified by the navy as having high level observation haki at 11 that skyrocketed his bounty, and achieved future sight clarity at 21.
  • Cracker start practicing armament haki at 9, and managed to stall Big Mom for a few hours by himself at 18.
  • Smoothie can sink entire navy fleets when she is only 15, and has the highest debut bounty among all siblings.
  • Additional information put Wafers and Normande on this list as well. Wafers is capable of conqueror haki, and Normande is actually the physical strongest Charlotte child from inheriting Big Mom’s strength and dwarf super strength.
• Children Forced to Kill: Katakuri is the first Charlotte child to kill, when he is 7 years old.
  • Perospero got his first bounty at 12, Katakuri at 10, and Amande at 9, for killing off an entire New World pirate crew.
  • Linlin forced her children to pillage a small country one year later, that numbered countless thousands of casualty. Daifuku and Oven had their first bounties at 11, Hachee and Effiler at 10.
• Combat Medic: Tablet is a surgeon and High-Fat is a nurse! Together they are the Big Mom Pirates doctor team!
• Companion Cube: Nusstorte’s homie bicorne has a tiny piece of his dead brother’s soul.
  • Nusstorte grew up to become Big Mom Pirates shipwright. He built Queen Mama Chanter, to permanently house the larger portion of his brother’s soul.
• Conjoined Twins: Newsan and Newshi are actually conjoined twins!!
• Consummate Liar: Charlotte siblings lie, a lot. Usually to their mother and civilians, but they would also lie to each other when necessary, sometimes keeping up a facade for years.
  • Special mention goes to Newsan and Newshi. Many siblings helped them deceive their mother and the entire Tottoland population for years, about their health problem, to save them from being pinned in a book by Big Mom.
  • Raisin deserves mention as well, he is basically a male counterpart for Pudding.
• Crapsaccharine World: Tottoland, of course. How it is a paradise is frequently brought up and like their mom, the Charlotte children genuinely believe this.
• Deliberately Cute Child: Galette, doing this to Cracker, to get him to take her through the Calm Belt. She was only 8 at the time.
• Despair Event Horizon: Two notable instances, Katakuri at 22 and Daifuku at 30, both happened on the day they ate their devil fruits.
• Die or Fly: This is how Cracker got his endless biscuit army and how Katakuri obtained future sight. They were up against Big Mom in her hunger rage and her invincible elemental homies respectively, while both were injured, Cracker was half-blind and Katakuri had a physical limp.

  Family Album Chapter 4. No Charlotte children grew into adulthood without experiencing the terror of near-death snapping at their heels.
• Explosive Breeder: Charlotte Linlin, of course.
• Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: The “bisque dolls” are deliberately groomed this way. Raisin, Panna, and of course Pudding.
• The Family That Slays Together: Of course.
• Generation Xerox: Linlin fasted for seven days when she was a little girl. Twenty years later, her oldest children were forced to starve for seven days.
• Hero of Another Story: Definitely.
• Honey Trap: A male example, Raisin.
• Hostage Situation: Mozart as a small girl, was taken hostage by Roger Pirates, forcing Katakuri to make a Sadistic Choice.
• It Runs in the Family
• Knight Templar Big Brother: Katakuri, of course.
  • Inverted once in the side-story surprisingly, when pre-timeskip Luffy somehow managed to deliver a tiny scratch on Katakuri’s face. His younger siblings Nougat and Panna completely lost it and immediately made Luffy their primary target.
• Massive Numbered Siblings: Of course. Extra points for giving them all distinct personalities and drastically different backstories.
• Offing the Offspring: Linlin killed one of her sons to make the first homie ship.
• One-Track-Minded Hunger: Charlotte Linlin.
  • First time her children dealt with her hunger pang resulted in near-deaths. Katakuri and Cracker managed to stall her temporarily, and they are later honored as Sweet Commanders for protecting Sweet City at the risk of their lives.
• Parental Abandonment: For five years, when Charlotte Linlin is with the ROCKS Pirates, twenty of her oldest children are basically abandoned on a port to fend for themselves.
• Parental Neglect: Charlotte Linlin, after she took her children back under her care.
• Promotion to Parent: Perospero for the whole family. Oven for the decuplets, for very specific reasons.
• Rape as Backstory: Perospero, at 8, was implied to be a child prostitute for some time, because the family needed money or they all starve. It explained everything about the character design.
• Royally Screwed Up: Well, Charlotte family are technically Tottoland royalty, and quite a few of them are insane.
• Rule of Symbolism: So many. Most notable, Katakuri telling a Celestial Dragon to kneel to him and his siblings instead when confronted, because old world nobles should kneel to new world nobles in the New World, and Charlottes are royalty with their own land.
  • Mont-d’Or and Galette finding the Book Fruit when Cracker took them to the Ohara ruins.
  • Katakuri getting his Mochi Fruit in Wano. Also, dango and magpies, It Makes Sense in Context.
  • Oven’s Heat Fruit re-spawn in flames.
• Sanity Slippage: Subtly happened to the family as a whole, the events that gradually twisted the Charlotte kids into how they are in the present day.
• Siblings in Crime: Older siblings often take younger siblings out on raids or other missions.
  • Cracker, with Mont-d’Or and Galette.
  • Katakuri and Oven, with Praline.
• Slave Liberation: Praline, when she is only 9! Katakuri and Oven helped of course, going so far as invade Celestial Dragon ship and steal directly from the World Noble, but they have less altruistic motives since they only did it to make their little sister happy.
• Thicker Than Water: Pretty much sums up the Charlotte family relationship.
  Effiler: “The sea is harsh and unforgiving, I show this moment of mercy because we take care of our own as family.”
• Til Murder Do Us Part: Daifuku killed his wife, Amande killed her many husbands, Kato killed Kanten’s wife.
• Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Katakuri unlocked his conqueror haki this way, after he was emotionally traumatized by the betrayal of his first and only friend.
• Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Runs in the family. Katakuri slaughtered about a hundred men at 10 and Amande tortured someone at 9, both to revenge for Brulee.
  • Big Mom Pirates received their crew name, because in the beginning the crew consisted of mostly children age 13 and younger, with Linlin and Streusen as the only adults.
• Tyke Bomb: The Charlotte kids were all trained in combat since very young, and were often referred to as Linlin’s “puppets” or “paper dolls”.
• Unstoppable Rage: Katakuri, twice. He first killed at 7 when Angel and Opera almost die in house fire due to an arsonist devil fruit user, and then slaughtered a pirate crew of almost a hundred men at 10 because they are responsible for cutting open Brulee’s face.
• Would Hit a Girl: Raisin. It is portrayed as a major Kick the Dog moment, to hammer in the fact that he is not a nice guy at all.
• Would Hurt a Child: Brulee had her face cut open when she is only 5.
