— Official plot summary

Abraxas: The Clash of Silver is a Recursive Fanfiction of the Godzilla MonsterVerse fanfiction Abraxas, which can be read here on Archive Of Our Own. It's written by SyfyGuy2 a.k.a. Zerm2v0hg, who also wrote the Abraxas recursive fic series Abraxasverse One-Shot Collection.

It essentially retells the events of Godzilla vs. Kong within the continuation AU that was established by the original Abraxas.

Status: Completed as of June, 2022

This work contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Hong Kong, arguably. Rather than simply one or two districts getting wrecked by the battling Titans and by Mechagodzilla's rampage, in this version, Mechagodzilla wrecks even more of the city over a longer period before it's destroyed.
  • invokedAscended Fanon: Although it's a Recursive Fanfiction, Hrodvitnon, the author of the parent fic, decided to canonize it to the parent fic's verse two years after The Clash of Silver was completed.
  • Ax-Crazy: Upon possessing Mechagodzilla fully, the Zmeyevich twins Don and Meg use it to gleefully decimate the majority of Hong Kong for the heck of it, reveling in the machine's power, and they have every intention of continuing their genocidal rampage with their mechanical Titan body over the rest of the planet.
  • Cain and Abel: The benevolent Zmeyevich Aleksandra ends up opposing her evil, Ghidorah-aligned biological half-siblings, Don and Meg.
  • Continuation: It takes place after the Left Hanging end-point of the parent fic's sequel AbraxasVerse Timeline.
  • EMP: Mechagodzilla's/Don and Meg's control over Apex's systems enables them to generate a five-mile EMP bubble around the Hong Kong HQ, preventing any military hardware from getting close enough to aid the benevolent Titans in destroying the Mecha.
  • Evil Counterpart:
    • The malevolent Zmeyevich Don and Meg, to the benevolent Zmeyevich Aleksandra. Like Aleks, Don and Meg are among the Zmeyevich that were birthed by Alan Jonah and Bio-Major's misuse of Ghidorah's DNA, at tragic cost; and like Aleks, Don and Meg psionically connect themselves to one of the two humongous mechas that were developed for Project Talos, in a way that they were never meant to. However, Aleksandra was raised right in Monarch by a loving carer, while Don and Meg were raised in Apex to be nothing more than a glorified means to achieve Walter Simmons' ambitions and are furthermore under Ghidorah's psychic influence. Aleksandra rejects her genetic source Ghidorah and is firmly on humanity's side, whereas Don and Meg are fully committed to Ghidorah's omnicidal agenda and resurrecting their three-headed birth-father.
    • Mechagodzilla:
      • To Kiryu. They're both humongous mechas made by Project Talos in Godzilla's likeness as a human means of combating hostile Titan threats, they both break away from their builders' intentions and go rogue partly due to the Zmeyevich's genetic influence, and both are directly influenced by a Zmeyevich from there on. However, where Kiryu has a symbiotic mental relationship with the benevolent Zmeyevich Aleksandra, and he ultimately sides with humanity, Godzilla and the Earth against existential threats; Mechagodzilla's sentience comes entirely from it being possessed by the malevolent Zmeyevich Don and Meg, who side with Ghidorah, aim to commit mass genocide against humanity, and succeed in decimating Hong Kong with the machine. Even the mechas' differing constructions reflect this: Kiryu was built by the Apex-Monarch collaboration while Monarch was under the belief he'd be used as an ally for Godzilla in defending the Earth, whereas Mechagodzilla was built exclusively by Apex in secret to realize their dreams of usurping and enslaving the Earthborn Titans.
      • It can also be seen as one to Monster X. Both are effectively newborn, transhuman Titans with two consciousnesses inside a single body, and both are "children" of Ghidorah. Both were also imprisoned underground by arrogant human big bad wannabes who thought they could control them (Alan Jonah and his paramilitary for Monster X, Walter Simmons and Apex Cybernetics for Mechagodzilla). But where Monster X despises and turns its back on Ghidorah to live its own life in peace while protecting the world, Mechagodzilla is completely devoted to pleasing Ghidorah via devastating the world.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Although neither Madison Russell nor Josh Valentine are with him in this version, and instead he's with Ren Serizawa, Bernie Hayes still ends up taking the maglev from Apex Pensacola to Apex Hong Kong, sneaking around, discovering the psionic control hub for Mechagodzilla, and shortly getting caught and brought before Walter Simmons.
    • Mechagodzilla being possessed by Simmons' adoptive Zmeyevich children instead of by Ghidorah's subconsciousness doesn't alter Simmons' ironic death by the Mecha in the slightest.
    • Although the circumstances leading up to it are completely different, Ren Serizawa still ends up in a chair in Apex Hong Kong, psionically uplinked to Mechagodzilla during its final awakening by Simmons' orders and against his own desires to the contrary, and he gets electrically shocked and telepathically violated by the machine; although in this version it doesn't kill Ren. It's also heavily implied in the ending that similarly to the Godzilla vs. Kong novelization's hints that Mechagodzilla assimilated part of Ren's cognition to fully form its own, a part or copy of Ren's mind got absorbed into Mechagodzilla by the psionic electrical shock in this version too.
    • In this version, Godzilla and Kong's last battle with each-other takes place in Shanghai, instead of Hong Kong where Mechagodzilla is, and it ends with Monster X healing Kong before Kong cuts ties with the surface world to live in peace in the Hollow Earth. Despite all this, Kong still returns to save Godzilla from Mechagodzilla's Kiss of Death and to help him destroy Mechagodzilla just like in the movie, although it's never explained why Kong changed his mind and came back.
    • Although the circumstances leading up to it are very different, on account of Team Godzilla never forming in this AU and on account of Josh Valentine's age-up and job change; he's still responsible for using a flask of alcohol to short out Mechagodzilla's computer in the Hong Kong HQ, causing the Mecha to stall when it's seconds away from likely killing Kong with its tail drill.
  • Knight Templar: As per his movie and parent fic depictions, Walter Simmons is an ego-driven Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist, who justifies his plans to kill and usurp Godzilla and then lobotomize the other Titans as him restoring order and returning humanity to the top of the food chain in a very dangerous world; even though his arguments fall even flatter on their face in the AbraxasVerse on account of the Titans' Adaptational Heroism. His subordinate Marcus Stenz believes that subjugating all the Titans and turning them into cattle and beasts of burden is humanity's best chance at securing the safest and most secure future for itself, and he thinks it justifies his ultimately-selfish employer's corporate conspiracy to endanger and sacrifice millions.
  • Monster Delay: Although Kiryu is seen curled up in the Apex-Monarch Philippines base during early testing, its appearance isn't described in full until it enters the climactic battle in Hong Kong. Likewise, the Zmeyevich's true appearances are concealed until nearly halfway through.
  • Mythology Gag: One of the Monarch military teams sent into Apex's Hong Kong HQ is called Team Oguri, a reference to Ren Serizawa's actor from the movie.
  • Recursive Fanfiction: It's a fanfiction of the MonsterVerse fanfiction Abraxas.
  • Rule of Three: The number three crops up a lot around Mechagodzilla, which is piloted by Zmeyevich whom are serving Ghidorah from beyond its grave. Apex Cybernetics in this fic deploy three robots to sample the Zohar, although one of them is destroyed. The Chinese military's fighter jets deployed against Mechagodzilla attack it in three formations, and they then get massacred. In the ending, Mechagodzilla's remains, which are implicitly set up to become Desghidorah, have three consciousnesses. On a possibly unrelated topic, Marcus Stenz was under guard by three officers when he was abducted three days before he was due to stand trial for his crimes.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Maya Simmons manages to avoid the Undignified Death of her MonsterVerse counterpart.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: Amongst the two Mechagodzillas, the main/actual Mechagodzilla emanates purple light, while Kiryu emanates yellow light much like the Toho movie portrayals. Mechagodzilla's purple light signifies the excessive pride of Apex for making it in the way that they did, and also the Mecha's unnatural possession by the half-Draconic Abomination Zmeyevich. Kiryu's yellow light on the other hand signifies his positive possession by a more heroic consciousness, him following in the footsteps of the Godzilla whose image the mechs were made in by him acting to defend the world instead of destroy it, and his earnest Robot Buddy bond with Aleksandra.
