Go To

A Horse for the Force is a crossover between Star Wars and Ranma ½ by Vimesenthusiast on Fanfiction Dot Net.

Ranma overhears some things that make him question his life in Nerima, then goes to see Dr. Tofu for some answers. While fighting those that came after him, Ranma decides to use the Nanban Mirror to get away from them, ending up in the universe of Star Wars before the events of The Phantom Menace. What follows is nothing short of pure chaotic insanity as Ranma shakes up the status quo of the galaxy as a force for good.

A Horse for the Force provides examples of:

  • Ace Custom: Ranma's starship, the Wild Light, complete with hidden proton torpedo launchers, ion cannon, and quadlaser turrets.
  • Adaptational Badass: Shaak Ti augments her existing skills in combat with Ranma's mentoring in hand-to-hand combat and ki use, allowing her to be more flexible in fights.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Count Dooku never falls to the Dark Side since he has someone to confide in with Ranma.
  • Adaptation Origin Connection: Ki and the Force are virtually the same, with the former known as the "Living Force" present within many sapient beings.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Shaak Ti can certainly qualify given her experience as a Jedi Knight.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Maul slices off Obi-Wan's leg during his battle against him and Qui-Gon.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Darth Maul sends a greater krayt dragon he managed to subjugate with the Dark Side after the heroes to prevent them from leaving Tatooine.
  • Awful Truth: Twofold for Ranma:
    • Akane didn't even like him in the first place and only saw him as a pawn to further her family's ambitions.
    • His parents only wanted the cure so he could be "normal" and fulfill his obligations of honor for them.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl:
    • Akane is a very unusual example in that she doesn't actually want to be with Ranma. However, she "refuses to lose" against Ranma's other fiancés, something even Nabiki considers despicable.
    • Shaak Ti is a downplayed example, mainly because of her inexperience with both romance and jealousy.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Ranma simply steals all the valuables of the Coruscan criminals he deals with on his way to the Fireball nightclub before stripping them nude despite the fact that he could easily kill them.
  • Death by Adaptation: Aurra Sing is beheaded by Ranma with one of her own stolen lightsabers on Tatooine.
  • Determinator: Ranma is practically this trope whenever he engages in combat, using his training, toughness, and stubborness to power thorough a lot of what the enemy throws at him.
    • Shaak Ti uses sheer Heroic Willpower and her feelings towards Ranma to purge herself of the aphrodisiac gas concocted by Jabba's Falleen minion, enabling her to break free of its effects and kill the Falleen who drugged her and Jabba in one fell swoop.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation:
    • Jabba is sliced in half by Shaak Ti's lightsaber during the slave revolt that Ranma kickstarts on Tatooine.
    • Jabba's pet rancor Pateesa dies fighting against his mercs after Shaak Ti liberates it.
  • Door Stopper: Clocks in at 1,292,668 words and 32 chapters.
  • Experienced Protagonist: Ranma has experience on dealing with all sorts of people from his previous life, making him more than prepared enough to take on the galaxy.
  • Fan Sequel: Played With; on one hand, it takes place right after the Wedding Massacre at the end of Ranma ½, but on the other hand, Ranma arrives in the universe of Star Wars before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
  • Hammerspace: Ranma's ki pocket is basically an extradimensional storage room that he can call upon at any time, and he teaches it to Shaak Ti so she can stow her weapons somewhere she can summon them at a moment's notice.
  • Irony: Ranma points out in his diatribe about the Jedi Order that although it teaches against having fear and other emotions that can lead to the Dark Side, the tendency of the order to grow in strength only to cut themselves off from every little bit of knowledge whenever their foes return is nothing short of a fearful reaction.
  • Innocent Innuendo: Shaak Ti remarks that Ranma's staff isn't that long as it appears after she defeats her in their sparring match's first round. Ranma being Ranma, she briefly believes it to be a sexual remark before nixing that possibility given what they know of her.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Ranma attempts this when he fights Maul on Tatooine. It doesn't really work at first, but it bears fruit when he mocks the latter for accidentally giving him Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon's lightsabers with his attempt to steal them via Force-grab.
  • The Internet Is for Porn: Due to being a Jedi her whole life, Shaak-Ti looks to the hypernet to understand how their relationship should go when she and Ranma hit it off. She's amazed and appalled by the sheer amount of human/togrutan porn she finds there.
  • Jerkass Realization: Ranma comes to realize the damage his actions have wrought on his relationships with Akane and Ukyo after Tofu undoes the Imperial Favor and Youthful Mind seals that were applied to him.
  • Logic Bomb: Droids who witness Ranma Saotome's transformation glitch until they (usually under orders) archive the memory under "Mystery of the Force" and promptly forget it.
  • Loud of War: One of Ranma's upgrades for Tune is a sound-based assault system linked to the astromech droid's speakers and a directional microphone that allows Tune to disorient enemies with sonic blasts.
  • Made of Iron: Ranma can easily tank blaster shots and resist lightsaber strikes to a degree thanks to his training, which he later passes on to Shaak Ti.
  • Martial Pacifist: Ranma makes sure to avoid using violence whenever possible, but if push comes to shove, he can easily mop the floor with anyone.
  • No Sympathy: When Ranma brings up the horrifyingly plausible possibility of being raped while in female form, Eeth Koth simply tells him to face his fears while Lilit and Gallia give no response. The other Jedi Masters who have seen what the galaxy can be like can only shake their heads at Koth's insensitivity.
  • Official Couple: Ranma and Shaak Ti.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Lilit is the shortest person in the Jedi Order yet can kick just as much ass as the rest.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Ranma's modus operandi hinges on this, and Shaak Ti takes in parts of this attitude over time.
  • Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: Shaak Ti is nothing short of furious inside when she sees Aayla's current state while stuck as Jabba's slave.
  • Slave Liberation: Ranma and Shaak Ti's plan to rescue Aayla includes arming the slaves in Jabba and Gardulla's service with weaponry and galvanizing them to fight against their oppressors after they destroy the mass transmitter powering their slave collars with explosives so they can distract their hired help and earn their freedom.
  • Spanner in the Works: Ranma ends up derailing a lot of Darth Sidious' plans with his presence.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Lilit and all the other Jedi who died at the Battle of Yinchorri survive thanks to Ranma's intervention.
    • Shmi is freed along with Anakin, meaning that she avoids her canonical fate of being killed by Tusken Raiders.
  • Too Dumb to Live: After Ranma wipes out a chapter of the Bounty Hunter Guild for almost killing Shaak-Ti, Mace Windu remarks that any chapter that takes up the bounty on Ranma after both that and his actions on Yavin 4 will have "reached an evolutionary dead end".
  • Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Ranma's actual gender is revealed to Shaak Ti after she drags him to the showers in his female form after their sparring match, resulting in her Force-slamming him into the walls in embarrassment.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Ranma doesn't have it easy when his body catches up with all the emotions the Youthful Mind seal had buried when he undoes it, especially regarding his libido. He tries to keep them under control when he first arrives in the galaxy of Star Wars before his relationship with Shaak Ti allows him to loosen up somewhat.
