Ten years after the events of Katawa Shoujo, Hisao Nakai is Happily Married to Hanako. As the various students of Yamaku have continued with their lives, Hisao has entered a business partnership with Kenji Setou, who remains — for the time being — an eligible bachelor. A Private Detective and writer, Kenji has shifted his efforts from uncovering the feminist conspiracy to revealing the Ancient Conspiracies of puppeteers controlling the world.
He gets his chance when Shizune Hakamichi’s father Jigoro goes missing, propelling the two detectives on an epic journey full of ever preposterous and awesome action. The two will face an epic crusade the likes of which only Kenji could cook up. With the help of unlikely allies, a lot of guns, and Kenji’s firm belief in the Power of Awesome, the two will fight for the world and to keep their families from finding out what they’re up to.
Written by Hoitash, the duo goes on adventures involving the Yakuza, Templars, Freemasons, the Illuminati, aliens, werewolves, and no small amount of shooting. The story has grown to include Hisao and Arika: Terror in the Night!, Road to Tokyo!, Concrete Jungle, Picking up the Pieces, one-shots, and a distant finale.

Hisao and Kenji- Master Detectives! contains examples of:
- Ancient Conspiracy: The Illuminati, the Templars, and the Freemasons.
- Artificial Limbs: Emi, obviously, also Miki gets an augmetic hand to replace her lost limb, and Emi eventually gets augments to replace her old leg prosthetics.
- Babies Ever After: Hisao and Hanako, Lilly and George, Kenji and Miya.
- Badass Longcoat: Akira and Hisao both wear dusters while fighting a werewolf, to protect them from both it's claws and fangs.
- Berserk Button: Hisao's is making his Hana cry, while Kenji's is drugging and raping young women.
- Bulletproof Vest: Saves Hisao's life in the raid on the Freemason base.
- Casual Danger Dialogue: While not egregious, Hisao and Kenji don't let little things like incoming fire stop them quipping or snarking, usually at each other.
- Combat Pragmatist: Shizune encourages Hisao to fight dirty during a sparring match. He proceeds to elbow her in the face and kick her in the gut during their next spar. Her father also willing to fight dirty, which includes biting a Predator during a duel.
- Cool Versus Awesome: The aforementioned fight between Jigoro and the Predator.
- Crazy-Prepared: Kenji. To the point of having a bulletproof desk, and many guns in said desk. He also, upon suspecting a werewolf presence in Hokkaido, makes sure Hisao has the needed supplies to deal with such a threat in his summer home, complete with silver bullets and guns.
- Crossover: with Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Eureka, Warehouse 13, and the Alien vs. Predator franchise. Die Hard also makes an appearance in a one-shot.
- Dartboard of Hate: Kenji has one of Shizune in his and Hisao's university dormitory, though naturally Kenji hits the wall as often as the board.
- Disabled Snarker: Hisao still has a heart condition, and Kenji is still legally blind.
- Distant Finale: centered around Hanako's birthday, and all the friends they made along the way.
- Dressing as the Enemy: Used to infiltrate a meeting between the Illuminati and the Templars.
- Due to the Dead: Kenji and Hisao raise their glasses to their fallen allies in the Freemasons.
- The werewolf is given a proper burial after he is defeated.
- Enemy Civil War: Kenji and Hisao try to get the Illuminati and the Templars, along with the various organized crime groups, fighting each other.
- Face Palm: Hisao tends to do this when irked, much as he did in the VN.

- I Callit Vera: Kenji keeps a sawed-off shotgun under his office desk which has "Matt 5:9" stenciled into the side. He and Hisao often refer to the shotgun as "Matthew."
- Interrupted Suicide: Akira puts a gun to their head when they think they are about to die from a werewolf attack, hoping to buy time for Hisao to to land a killing blow. Hisao stops said attempt.
- The Mafiya: Make an appearance.
- Motor Mouth: Naomi in the Distant Finale Birthday Special has to be physically stopped from rambling at one point.
- Powered Armor: Templars employ these, and several have been acquired by the Illuminati. Hisao borrows a suit of American made prototype armor to fight a Predator that's hoping to add Jigoro to his trophy case.
- Private Detective: Kenji's day job, and Hisao gets dragged along for the ride.
- Rousing Speech: Kenji is rather fond of these, whether they succeed or not.
- Running Gag: Hisao REALLY hates the color of the paint on the walls in Kenji's office.
- Semper Fi: The antique store owner in Road to Tokyo sports an Eagle, Globe, and Anchor tattoo.

- Hisao seems very well versed in Warhammer 40,000 lore, and mentions several times to be reading a Ciaphas Cain HERO OF THE IMPERIUM novel.

- A Freemason member declares that "we are leaving!"
- The Die Hard drinking game is a sacred Christmas tradition.
- Many entries start with quotes pertaining to the story.
- Concrete Jungle ends in a similar matter to Predator 2.
- In college, Hisao and Kenji played poker with Kaneo Takarada
- The Alcoholic: Miki had a bout of this before her first appearance, and has since sobered up, though ironically she now helps run a restaurant with a bar.
- The Stoic: Akira's husband, Daichi, doesn't talk much.
- Theme Naming: The Chapters for Mystery Eight have an art theme, to reflect Rin and her husband's appearance in the story.
- All the chapter titles for Picking up the Pieces are quotes from Moby-Dick (which also serves as a Callback to Concrete Jungle).
- Theme Twin Naming: Akira's twin daughters are names Chise and Carry, reflecting the family tendency to give one child a Japanese name, and one a Western one.
- There Are No Therapists: Averted; Hisao mentions several times seeing a discreet therapist to cope with the stress of his and Kenji's adventures.
- A True Story in My Universe: Hisao and Kenji start a series of adventure novels based on their adventures, and it is implied that the stories themselves come from Hisao's personal memoirs.
- Yakuza: Makes several appearances, and Jigoro himself was a former member.
- Worthy Opponent: The Predators consider Hisao and Kenji as one.
