"What am I supposed to do?"

Greta Hexenpfahl.

GRAP is a RWBY Fan Fiction written by RoyalPsycho, set thirty years after the start of the show. It follows a new cast of characters as they enter Beacon Academy, which has only recently been reopened after the war against Salem and her followers.

Greta Hexenpfahl is a new first year student at Beacon Academy, and is looking forward to a simple path through life and the chance to make friends. Through luck and unintentional initiative she ends up as the leader of Team GRAP, who will soon be forced to face off against the looming threats to Beacon, Vale and the world of Remnant.

The first volume has recently been completed, with the second being well underway at the time of writing.

     Volume One

  • Action Girl: To be expected in a RWBY fanfic - there are many examples among the cast, including Greta, Rapture, Aurora, Adelheid and Elizabeth.
  • Alternate Universe: Began before Volume 4 came out.
  • The Apocalypse Brings Out the Best in People: Implied with Jaune: now the headmaster of Beacon.
  • Badass Crew: Both teams GRAP and TEAL.
  • Badass Family: To an extent, the Schnees. Adelheid Schee, Weiss' daughter, attends Beacon.
  • Being Evil Sucks: Benedict Cache is a pawn of the big bad, and is incredibly conflicted about this.
  • BFG: Predictably, there are several examples:
    • Greta Hexenpfahl has Firebrand, which has several functions - flamethrower, shotgun, maul and pike.
    • Aurora Basilikos has a sniper rifle glaive called Dark Majesty.
  • BFS: Technical version but Lach’s cutlass is pretty big.
  • Big Bad: Iseabel Beathas.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Lach has this in spades for Tom.
  • Big Good: Jaune Arc sort of fills the role now that he’s headmaster of Beacon.
  • Chainsaw Good: Elizabeth certainly seems to think so as her axe incorporates chain-saw teeth into its blade.
  • Covert Group with Mundane Front: Teams GOLD and SWRZ, sent from Atlas.
    • Technically, Jaune and Professor Smith might also qualify.
  • Crapsack World: Despite defeating Salem, Remnant is still doing very poorly. Vale is described as still recovering from a war, large districts are abandoned and filled with criminals, poverty and crime are high and Mistral has just finished fighting a civil war at the beginning of the story.
  • The Dragon: Aanjay Laal is being forced into the role by Iseabal.
  • The Dreaded: Aanjay Laal, the leader of the Red Fang.
  • Dual Wielding: Adelheid with a sword and a Dust-wand. Also Peter with whatever two weapons of his he picks at a given time.
  • Evil Is One Big, Happy Family: Averted. The Elder Grimm Society and the Red Fang can’t stand one another.
  • Expy: As in the show, the main cast are all based on characters from fiction.
  • Fan Disservice: Iseabel has a moment of writhing naked on a bed, moaning in ecstasy - except that, to the man observing her, it comes off as creepy, not hot.
    • Greta also gets walked in on whilst she’s in her underwear. What ruins any comedy or sexiness in this scene is that fact that she is having a mental breakdown from surviving a terrorist suicide bombing.
  • Fantastic Racism: Faunus are still horribly mistreated by the human population of the kingdoms.
  • Great Offscreen War: The Witch War, which took place after Volume 3 of RWBY and lasted years.
  • Last of His Kind: The Red Fang are the final remains of the White Fang who were almost completely exterminated during the Witch War and have lost all credibility.
  • The Leader: Geoffrey Strong of Team GOLD is a very obvious example.
    • Played with for both Greta and Tom, who are the leaders of their respective teams but seem reluctant to lead.
  • Rich Bitch: Adelheid Schnee, at least initially.
  • Trenchcoat Warfare: Peter carries an assortment of transforming blades in his long coat.
  • The Vamp: Iseabel proves to be this.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Several examples.
    • Both GRAP and TEAL have this in spades.
    • Teams GOLD and SWRZ, teams from Atlas on a secret mission, are also somewhat prone to arguing amongst themselves.
  • Walking Spoiler: Iseabel Beathas, big bad.

     Volume Two

  • Always a Bigger Fish: Nox Skye soundly defeats Aanjay Laal, previously demonstrated to be a highly lethal opponent, in single combat, apparently without much effort. This, after Laal has only just defeated the highly competent team’s GOLD and SWRZ.
  • Ax-Crazy: Aanjay Laal.
  • Berserk Button: Peter gets whacked in his face and replies with absolute rage.
  • Break the Cutie: Greta gets truly downtrodden during the events of this story.
  • Canon Immigrant: Ish, since Nox Skye and his children were created by another author for what was initially a spin-off of the main story. As December, 2017 the author moved these characters to his own, unrelated story as well.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Pretty much the entirety of Team GRAP gets at least a hint of one revealed:
    • Greta’s father committed a murder-suicide of his wife, landing her in an orphanage for the rest of her life from an early age.
    • Rapture is from a faunus ghetto run by gangs and abandoned by government emergency services.
    • Aurora was attacked by kidnappers just a few months before the story begins and was only just able to fight them off.
    • Peter’s family committed genocide on the faunus in his homeland during the Witch War and he’s lived in fear of his own anger since then.
  • Dysfunction Junction: Team GRAP are shaping up to look like one of these, at least on a personal level if not in how they interact with one another.
  • Expy: Continuing the canon show and GRAP Volume One’s use of fictional characters for inspiration, Nox Skye is almost certainly an expy Darth Vader from Star Wars, from his twin children to his imposing armour to some of his lines.
“You may dispense with the pleasantries Professor Siog.”
  • Hero of Another Story: Elena and Edmund Skye, Nox’s children, imply that they’ve dealt with similar issues before.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Nox Skye can certainly qualify for this, being as he is all about intimidation, dark armour and kicking some serious ass.
  • Worf Effect: quite a few examples in this volume.
    • Team SWRZ get their asses handed to them by Professor John Smith, who demonstrates just why he’s teaching this stuff.
    • Team GOLD and SWRZ, the latter having literally just apprehended Team GRAP, get beaten up by Aanjay Laal.
    • Aanjay Laal herself gets her ass handed to her by Nox Skye.
