Kingdom Hearts III: Brotherhood of Dark is a Kingdom Hearts fanfiction written by Darth Kingdom and is one of several post Kingdom Hearts II pre-days works.

The story follows Sora, Riku, and Kairi shortly after the events at the end of Kingdom Hearts II and progress to them and their True Companions going from world to world battling a group called (suprise, suprise) the brotherhood of dark, who have taken control of both, The Heartless and Nobodies.

The story, as it stands, has over 130 chapters.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Action Girl: Kairi, Yuffie, and Bariss, duh!
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Marluxia.
    • Also Demyx.
  • Alternate Universe: As this was written long before any game after Kingdom Hearts II, Xehanort makes no appearances outside of a dream sequence and flashbacks.
  • Author Avatar: The author actually writes himself into agrabah in order to prevent axel from giving away what The Oracle told Nehrut.
    • The avatar also admits that Nehrut was an author avatar as well, trying to create a character that was the best of the author.
  • Avengers Assemble: After victory in Radiant Garden, Yen Sid proposes a gathering of all known heroes of the worlds in order to launch a final assault on the brotherhood.
  • Bag of Spilling: Averted. While Sora, Kairi and Riku start slow fighting their enemies, their skills are still formidable and no Reset Button used.
  • Beta Couple: Yuffie and Riku, as well as Nehrut and Bariss, serve as this.
  • Big Bad: Serndask, leader of the Brotherhood.
  • Big Good: Yen-sid, obviously.
  • Brain Bleach: Apparently, Riku had a dream about Maleficent and Jafar doing the tango. Yikes.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Agrabah features quite a bit of this, with the Genie going all meta on the readers. It gets so bad that the author writes himself in as a booming voice telling genie to keep it to a minimum.
  • Breather Episode: The Road to El Dorado on the whole features very little fighting or conflict, mostly following the story with only 3 fights in the whole world.
  • Cain and Abel: Nehrut's nobody younger brother Xaynew is the Cain to his Abel. In fact, he was the one responsible for opening his world to the heartless.
  • Christmas Episode: The technically Non-canon Christmas at the garden. Even when they visit christmas town, they don't really have christmas anywhere.
  • Dead Fic: Sadly, not updated since 2013.
  • Doorstopper: At 136 chapters and 476,753 words, you'd better believe it!
  • Deus ex Machina: Some of the actions taken in the fic can be a little bit of a stretch, without a whole lot of foreshadowing. Things like the dives to the heart and new members can be excused, but when you have moments like Roxas and Namine gaining bodies from a residual blast of darkness from Syndrome, the summons gaining their own consciousness and the power of Infinity, you can't help but see those things as a bit of a stretch.
  • Disney Death: Nehrut almost has this as a Running Gag, as he comes close to death twice.
  • Evil Counterpart: Ruxik, Riku's nobody and evil keyblade wielder.
    • Also, Xaynew. Nehrut's nobody brother.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Sora was a bit wary of Nehrut and Bariss going forward, but thanks to them helping to fight the bad guys, he warmed up to them.
  • Forced into Evil: Bariss lost her parents to Xehanort's first attacks and was picked up by the brotherhood.
    • Xyran was imprisoned by Marluxia, and is forced into brotherhood service to keep the person he used to care about safe.
  • Gatling Good: Barret Wallace of Final Fantasy VII makes an appearance.
  • Heroic Willpower: A standard of the team.
  • Idiot Ball: Played straight, subverted, then somewhat invoked by Nehrut when he doesn't use his telekinesis to to immediately steal back Trident's trident, and then, you know, does, before questioning why he didn't do that from the start.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Kairi's dad gave one of these to Sora.
  • Lampshade Hanging: See Idiot Ball above.
  • Legion of Doom: The brotherhood of evil. Lead by the mysterious Sendask, in control of heartless, nobodies, and even some of the old Organization XIII.
  • Mega Crossover: Includes not just Disney and Square Enix characters, but also includes cameos/guest appearances from Spider-Man, Batman, Sly Cooper, Rachet And Clank, Family Guy, Star Wars, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Spyro the Dragon, Assassin's Creed, Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros. just to name a few.
  • Musical Episode: Atlantica is half this, half a serious episode.
  • Nightmare Sequence: Sora has one of these about Xehanort killing everyone he loves, leading to a 'cheer up' speech by Jack Sparrow and Mickey.
  • Original Character: Several. Nehrut and Bariss for the good guys. A whole host of nobodies and other bad guys.
  • Plot Hole: When Nehrut is run through by Sephiroth, Aerith's spirit saves him. Thing is, she's alive, so couldn't have been there to save him. Though it could just be a form of magical projection, since it's not fully explained in the story aside from her being "more powerful than you think".
  • Quirky Mini Boss Squad: Shego, Randall, and Syndrome serve as this, for a chapter or two, that is.
  • Token Good Teammate: Xyran and Cossex. Their memories of past lives have them lead to be almost tragic characters in that they were trying to be heroic in past lives. (Cossex was. Xyran was more trying to be a good servant until he rebelled from stealing Sora's powers the 1st time he went to agrabah)
  • Took a Level in Badass: Sora, Riku, and Kairi, all via a platform sequence.
  • Villain Team-Up: Usually 1 per world, assuming that the participant isn't already in the brotherhood. Of course, considering they sometimes bring their organization member with them, it could still count.
  • Will They or Won't They?: Nehrut and Bariss. they do.
  • Warrior Prince: Nehrut.
  • Warrior Therapist: They all help each other through their problems.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: The Agrabah adventure in this fic takes its cues directly from Aladdin and the King of Thieves.
