"I did a laughable part in a Doctor Who years ago, and I still get people who've taken shots of the screen, 'Please sign this', because they've got to collect all the characters' autographs. I just looked like a twat in a grass skirt and green body paint!"

Lee Cornes is a British stand-up comedian and actor.

He began stand-up comedy in 1980, often as the compere at the Comedy Store in London. In 1987, he won Best Stand-Up Comedian at the Charrington London Fringe Awards.

The '80s also saw the beginning of his acting career, with an early role in Doctor Who coming in 1982. Following this came small roles in The Comic Strip Presents, The Young Ones, three separate series of Blackadder, and Filthy Rich & Catflap.

In 1987, he auditioned for the role of Rimmer in Red Dwarf, but lost out to Chris Barrie. Cornes was later cast as Paranoia in the 1988 episode "Confidence and Paranoia". A year later, he was providing voices for TUGS, most notably the voice of Grampus, a Navy submarine.

In 1990, he joined Grange Hill as Mr. Hankin, a science teacher, and didn't leave the series until 2002. Following this, he made guest roles in 15 Storeys High, Hustle, Bear Behaving Badly, My Family, PhoneShop, and Toast of London.

Cornes has also made a career of script writing, most notably for Mr. Bean: The Animated Series.
