Founded in 1954 as an import business, Lewis Galoob Toys was a San Francisco-based firm that gradually transformed itself into America's third-largest toy company. Much of this good fortune was due to Micro Machines, a line of tiny vehicles that successfully competed with the larger cars from Hot Wheels and Matchbox for many years. It also sold the peripheral video game system Game Genie.
Galoob made several licensed action figures and dolls, although they didn't do as well in this field as rivals such as Hasbro, Kenner, Mattel or Playmates Toys. In fact, many of their proposed figure lines either went unreleased or were sold only outside America.
Galoob was bought out by Hasbro in 1998.
