"Army made me weird."
"He said, "it's not the good that die young, it's the lucky." I still haven't figured out yet if I'm the lucky one or just a survivor."

The Dead Lucky is an ongoing superhero comic published by Image Comics, and is part of the Massive-Verse. It is written by Melissa Flores and drawn by French Carlomagno, and began in August 2022.

Bibiana "Bibi" Lopez-Yang is a war veteran suffering from PTSD, after her platoon was somehow killed, leaving her its sole survivor with electric superpowers. Returning home, she finds that San Francisco has become the testing ground for a new form of police; the Morrow tech company has stepped in to curb increasing crime, particularly from the Salvation Gang, with their Guardian robots and cybernetics. As the fighting between the two escalates, Bibi finds herself caught in the middle.

The title was first teased with a post-credits scene in Supermassive #1, with Bibi making an in-costume appearance. The series went on hiatus in the lead-up to Supermassive (2023), where Bibi will meet Radiant Black and Rogue Sun.

Tropes in The Dead Lucky:

  • Childhood Friend Romance: How Bibi and Eddie started out. She says they were best friends, then prom dates, then he was "her first."
  • Comic-Book Movies Don't Use Codenames: Bibi's masked vigilante persona isn't ever called anything, just referred to as the masked vigilante. "Dead Lucky" isn't something she's called.
  • Hidden Depths: When Shift, Doppler and Pyre abandon the operation against Morrow, Pyre hesitates and only leaves when Shift repeats that they're leaving.
  • Lightning Gun: In issue #5, Eddie gives Bibi a gun that can focus the electricity she generates into a laser blast.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: The ghosts of Bibi's squad that appear with her powers. It's not clear if it's really them or if it's just Bibi's survivor's guilt making her see things.
  • The Mole: The end of the first arc sees Bibi publicly operating as Morrow's new superhero, Dead Lucky, and leader of their private police. This is so she can take them down from the inside as revenge for Eddie's death.
  • Only in It for the Money: Shift and Doppler from Radiant Black show up, along with new character Pyre, hired by the Salvation Gang to fight Morrow. They don't actually care about Morrow; they're just in it for the payday.
  • Power Incontinence: Eddie touches Bibi after she unloads some power, and she accidentally electrocutes him into a coma. He also modified her dog tags to help her with controlling her powers.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Gust, the leader of the Salvation Gang, sells out Bibi to Morrow in exchange for the gang's freedom. Instead, Morrow arrests the entire gang, including Gust.
  • Secret-Keeper: Officer Garcia knows that Bibi was fighting the Salvation Gang in a big mech, but does not tell anyone.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Bibi suffers from PTSD due to being the sole survivor of something that killed her platoon.
  • Shock and Awe: Bibi can emit pink electricity.
  • Sole Survivor: Bibi is the sole survivor of her platoon... somewhat. It appears as if her army buddies are part of her powers, as they appear to her in the form of the pink energy she uses, and it's not clear if they're real or just hallucinations.
  • Thinking Out Loud: Since returning from war, Bibi has a habit of thinking out loud. It gets commented on as being weird, but Eddie at least just accepts it.
  • Transformation Trinket: Eddie created a pair of dog tags that can materialize Bibi's costumes around her when charged with her electricity.
  • Working with the Ex: Bibi's works with her ex-boyfriend Eddie, who creates her technology. His name in her contacts is even "The Ex".
  • Yellow Lightning, Blue Lightning: Bibi generates pink lightning.
