The Zudjari Mosaic

    Organization and Species Tropes
The warlike Zudjari worked in the name of expanding the Mosaic Philosophy, a system where they believed every species would have a specific, singular purpose in the galactic war machine. As of the story's beginning, the Zudjari are dormant, preserved in pyramids scattered throughout the galaxy, and their technology used as the basis for the Ethereal Collective's Outsiders.
    Origin

The Origin

The Origin of Zudjari-7 is arguably the most revered Zudjari of the Mosaic. Mu'ut Jeen's rebellion would lead to the removal of his stasis pod from the pyramid to an unknown location.

    Axis

Axis

Among the dormant Zudjari of Zudjari-7, the Axis is amongst the higher-ranking, subordinate only to Origin. After Mu'ut Jeen's rebellion, his pod was relocated to the Creator's Paradise, where he would be eventually awakened by the Battlemaster and Sana'Ligna years later.
    Mu'ut Jeen

Assimilator Mu'ut Jeen

An Assimilator of the Mosaic, Mu'ut Jeen was one of the three senior Zudjari stored in Zudjari-7, and the first to be awakened by the Ethereals. He would quickly turn on them, enslaving several soldiers before fleeing to Earth, where he was killed by the Ethereals.

  • Posthumous Character: Died around 50 years prior to the beginning of the story, courtesy of Nebulan and Sicarius.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He was the perpetrator of the Outsider Incident, which played a large role in the formation of XCOM. If it weren't for Jeen's rebellion, it's likely that humanity would've been in the process of assimilation into the Collective by now.
    I'llan Ceen

I'llan Ceen

The lone operator of the Zudjari forge on Zudjari-7, responsible for producing and refining the Collective's Outsider units.

Kett'Tasira

    General Tropes
A species native to the Andromeda galaxy with access to a power known to the Andromedons as "Biomanipulation". They fought a war against the Andromedon Unions, leading to their formation of the Federation and their subsequent escape from the galaxy.

  • Biomanipulation: One of their main specialties. The Andromedons literally call it Biomanipulation. Unlike in canon, it doesn't require any form of technology to perform, being fully based on psionics. More specifically, a mix of Biopathy and Nanokinesis.

The Faceless

    General Tropes
A species currently under research by Geneticist Revelean for their uncanny shapeshifting abilities.

  • Demoted to Extra: They haven't been used in any capability in the war on Earth so far. Unless you count the deployment of Sectoid Cyberdisks as Faceless usage.

Havarilians

    General Tropes
A species native to the Andromeda galaxy, uplifted by the Andromedons of Union Irriaran for the purpose of war. They would be later rendered extinct.

  • Killed Off for Real: The ones uplifted by Union Irriaran were wiped out by the other Unions. The remaining ones on their homeworld were then wiped out and sterilized by Union Haruma.
  • Posthumous Character: A race-wide example of this, as they were all wiped out in the Andromedon Union Wars.

The Inner Galaxy Species

    General Tropes

The Synthesized

    General Tropes
Responsible for the fall of the original Ethereal Empire, the hybrid fleets of the Synthesized dedicate themselves to the cyclical extinction of spacefaring species for unknown reasons. They are the Reapers, and like in canon, they assimilate each cycle's species in order to make more of them. The exact motives remain unknown.

  • Assimilation Plot: As Yang's journey to the Dead World reveals, the Synthesized are built from the biomaterial of captured species, just like the canon Reapers.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: They were responsible for the destruction of the Ethereal Empire, as well as many other spacefaring civilizations, and they are poised to return to the Milky Way. A war with them is inevitable at this point.
    The Apostate

Other Characters

    The Entity

The Entity, The Shapeshifter, Gabriel

A being imprisoned by the Riders, who escaped containment and fled to the Sphere of the Sovereign. He has infiltrated XCOM under the alias of "Gabriel" and made contact with several noteworthy figures participating in the war. In canon, he's known as Gaunter O'Dimm.

  • Deal with the Devil: Wouldn't be Gaunter if he didn't offer these. Thus far, he has made a deal with the Ethereal One Hundred, Volk and Miridian and has attempted to do the same with the Battlemaster.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Although he is fond of appearing as a human, Ethereal, or any other species in the universe, his true form is none of them.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Hoo boy.
    • His deal with the One Hundred allowed them to eventually spread to other galaxies, effectively making him this to the Ethereal Empire and the Collective.
    • Similarly, his deal with Miridian allowed the rogue Vitakarian to eventually found the Nulorian.
  • No-Sell: He is immune to psionics, as the One Hundred couldn't detect his mind, nor could the Battlemaster grab him telekinetically.
  • Time Stands Still: He casually freezes time in order to have a private chat with Miridian, while he's leading an attack on the Aui'Vitakar. Nartha notices that something's off, but ends up dismissing it.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: He is capable of passing for a variety of different species, as showcased during his conversation with the Ethereal One Hundred. As expected, he adopts a human form while on Earth, and a Vitakarian form when posing as a Chimera Squad member.
  • Walking Spoiler
