Badass Longcoat: The majority of Shigure's outfits include this with a pirate twist.
Easter Egg: His name is a reference to Shigeru Miyamoto and Tetsuya Nomura. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! Since he's basically Abridged Kirito, he makes it clear from point one that he's a massive nerd with way too much free time, spending most of that time making references, from Red vs Blue to obscure history facts. One of his first references is about John Carmack and how he's a vessel for an interdimensional quantum entity.
Even Evil Has Standards: He has a soft spot for kids, bonus points if they remind him of his little brother.
Friendly Rival: Is this with Kazuto/Kirito, although Shigure initially is antagonistic towards him... for poorly explained reasons, they eventually start to warm up and start being more competitive. An annual thing after the Fairy Dance arc is to have it end with Shigeru and Kazuto in mid swing before we cut to black.
Running Joke: Most people refer to Shigeru as an old man after finding out his true name.
Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Seeing as despite his jackass tendencies, he still has friends. He's primarily this with Shinozaki Rika/Lisbeth, who is one of the few people in SAO to see through his act and call him out on it, the two eventually developing feelings for each other and dating.
