Lie Ren
- "Poison Hands"
- Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Ren has largely given up trying to follow Nora's train of thought, but guides her attention when necessary.
- Cultured Badass: Can cook up a dinner worthy of a banquet to feed Nora's black hole of a stomach, repair clothing (or at least attempt to), mingle on the dance floor at nightclubs, handle the administrative end of being head of a household, banter with hardened information brokers, and study the hard sciences in whatever free time he has left.
- Consummate Professional: Pays Fidelius even after he had tried to sic his thugs on Ren to intimidate more money from him.
- Hitman with a Heart: Realizes fully that he has become this when he notes that he could have dealt with Neo much more efficiently during the cargo plane hijacking. If going on the run with Nora hadn't already made that clear.
- Pragmatic Hero: Has no problems fighting dirty.
- Professional Killer: Ren is a gifted assassin who prefers ambush tactics to eliminate targets before they can become too big a problem.
- Refuge in Audacity: Senior's cool and assured front breaks when Ren reveals that he is operating out of Beacon Academy. It takes him a while to collect himself from being visibly shocked.Senior:"I may have underestimated you. You are one crazy son of a bitch."
- Rogue Agent: Ren states that he has betrayed the Organization, but it has yet to be revealed exactly what his crimes are. It's likely that it involves his decision to spare Nora years ago.
- The Social Expert: He's still quiet and mostly unassuming, but Ren is equally capable of surviving in the Vacuan wilderness and disappearing into the crowd at a nightclub. Yang is discomfited by his ability to adapt to social situations so well when she had only known him as a man of few words. His inner narration also reveals his ability to pick out the higher ups within enemy units and ascertain a group's experience level.
- Weak, but Skilled: Ren continually notes in his narration how he has a smaller qi pool than many other fighters, but his talent with manipulating foreign qi, technical martial skill, anatomical knowledge, and willingness to do anything he needs to do to win makes him the wrong person to underestimate.
Nora Valkyrie
- Cloudcuckoolander: Nora's prone to run-on sentences and non sequiturs, but has her pensive moments.
- Morality Pet
- Yandere: Has uncharitable thoughts of some of her former coworkers at the smith for getting too flirty with Ren at a party. She's initially wary of the other girls in RWBYJNPR during Initiation, notably being fairly nonchalant about knocking Blake off the bridge since she's most leery of her chances.
Fengchu
- Voice with an Internet Connection: Fengchu operates in the darknet on Ren's behalf since he can't do so without exposing himself.
