* OneSteveLimit: Averted. He went [[NoNameGiven conspicuously unnamed]] for ''over two years'' due to the G1 version of the character already existing in IDW continuity, but it was eventually confirmed that he is also named Breakdown. It helps that IDW's Breakdown was already PutOnAPrisonBus at the end of the ''ComicBook/TransformersCombinerWars'' event.

* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:Despite his violent tendencies, once merged into Bruticus, Brawl is shown to be visibly uncomfortable with the combiner going on his own violent rampage. Followed up on in conversation with Windblade: his experiences in Bruticus have instilled a healthy fear of death, and he urges her to win the election so that there will never be another war.]]
** [[spoiler:A more lighthearted depth is the fact that he enjoys the Cybertronian equivalent of [[RealMenWearPink light, fruity cocktails]]. When he meets with Windblade, he insists to her that, if the guys ask, he only drinks straight [[GargleBlaster Engex]] before revealing a dainty glass topped with a parasol.]]

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: In most Generation 1 fiction, Bruticus is typically portrayed as incredibly unintelligent, at times requiring someone else to give him basic commands before he would even move. Here, due to Swindle being brain-dead, Onslaught being occupied with combing through Swindle's memories, Brawl being terrified of both Bruticus' power and the circumstances of Swindle's "death", Vortex reveling in Bruticus' power, and Blast Off trying to keep all the Combaticons focused, the resulting Bruticus was formed incredibly unstable and madly rampaged uncontrollably through Iacon in a manner not unlike Menasor.

* VaguenessIsComing: Titans do not perceive time and space as humans or regular transformers do. As such, his conversations with Windblade (and he can talk about multiple topics at once) include numerous vaguely prophetic sayings. There's been one in the two first issues:

* NotSoDifferent: Subverted. Brawl let's loose a speech to the Ex-Decepticons about how they need to fight for equality, and then tells Needlenose to be a good Decepticon and buy them more drinks (as Brawl's antics caused theirs to spill). It echoes a few scenes in the apartheid era when certain bots made their inferiors clean up their spills, or fetch more energon; however, while in the past this was done to demonstrate how much that the society unfairly treated bots as lesser because of the forms they were born in, here, it's just Brawl being a dick.

* Yandere: Violently protective of Windblade to the point where she [[spoiler: planted a bomb that killed a few innocent bots (and also greatly injured Windblade) in a attempt to scare Windblade away from Cybertron.]]

* ADayInTheLlimelight: Issue #5 of the second Windblade series sees him racing to earn the allegiance of the world of Velocitron.

* SuperToughness: Brawl can take a beating and keep going. When fighting Arcee, he gets shot and impaled twice, and he's still able to stand up and drag Blast-Off out. During his time on earth he was easily able to NoSell a lot of punishment, and even after his brain was fried, he was up and running eventually.
* TankGoodness: His traditional alt-mode. Formerly a Cybertronian model, issue #29 draws him resembling an M1 Abrams.

* TheDragon: He's the 2nd in command of the Combaticons and the one doing the heavy lifting when they launch their combination gambit.

* WhatAboutTheMouse: Is completely forgotten about after ''TAAO'' ends, even by the time of ''Unicron''. It's entirely possible [[spoiler:he dies when Unicron eats Cybertron.]]

* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:Long ago, she and the previous Mistress of Flame travelled to the planet Antilla with two of the Torchbearers. Onyx Prime was there, and his Maximals killed the old Mistress and one of the Torchbearers, who fled. The Mistress never told anyone about this.]]

* TheGoodKingdom: Caminus is a fairly small neutral Colony. Though unlike the Warring Cybertronians, they are peaceful and moral. As per the trope, they are under threat of being subsumed by [[TheEmpire the Cybertronian Empire]].* PuppetState: Invoked. The Unnamed Rulers of Caminus do pass laws and legislate, but everyone, including them, know that the Mistress of Flame is the true power on Caminus, as she is their high priestess in a society that is staunchly religious. The Rulers even await her judgement on important political matters before moving forward.

* HappilyMarried: To his Conjunx Endura, who's an IDW-verse version of ''Prime'' Breakdown.
