Su-Yong Shu
- And I Must Scream
- Brain Uploading: The first succesful instance actually, at least until her clone is killed and she's left alone in her computer with no contact with the outside world. For six months.
- Bullying a Dragon

- Emergency Transformation: Shu's brain was uploaded to a computer bank as she was dying from an assassination attempt.
- Emperor Scientist: Carries a lot of influence in the east.
- Sanity Slippage: And she knows it's happening.

- Tragic Monster: Shu was uploaded in a last ditch effort to save her life. After which her husband effectively rejected her and used her daughter as leverage to get her to work for the Chinese state.

- Stealing the Credit: Chen has been claiming his uploaded wife's accomplishments as his own. This comes to a head when he resorts to torturing her to get one last breakthrough before she's destroyed.
Ling
Shu's Daughter with Chen
- Bio-Augmentation
- Break the Cutie: While she may be crazy, she's positively heartbroken when her father hits her and scalds her with hot tea that she had prepared especially for him (this was after he figured out she had caused the Shanghai disaster.) It gets worse when she finally gets to talk with her mother again, and Shu uses that opportunity to (reluctantly) download herself into her daughter, while Ling screams in pain.

- Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Loves her mother dearly, and even her father too.
- Person of Mass Destruction: When she is thwarted in finding her mother in "Crux", she takes it out on Shanghai's power grid, effectively destroying the city.
