Party

Protagonist

The Main character, A new member of the Burning Dawn mercenary band.

Tropes:

Belamy Lightfingers

A quick-tempered and impulsive Halfling fighter. He's doomed to die in the prologue.

Tropes:

  • Barbarian Hero: Has all the hallmarks of one, despite his size.
  • BFS: wields a greatsword taller than he is.
  • Burn the Witch!: On the receiving ends of one at the hands of the Order of the Gilded Eye.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Despite the fact small races aren't supposed to be able to use heavy weapons without consent disadvantage, he wields a greatsword without trouble.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Goes on one after seeing his guildmates get brutally murdered. It doesn't end well for him.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Dies at the hands of the Gilded Eye during the prologue.

Illydia Maethellyn

A moon elf cleric of Sehanine Moonbow, she shows up during the attack on your caravan hoping to find out why Burning Dawn members were being targeted.

Tropes:

  • The Atoner: Dedicated her life to Sehanine for Guiding drow to her hidden village as a child.
  • Break Her Heart to Save Her: When you reach the endgame, you are given a choice. Sacrifice Illydia to purify the Moontear, or destroy the moontear to stop Belaphoss from using it. Considering Illydia dedicated the last hundred years to finding the moontear taking the second option, and subsequently destroying a fragment of Sehanine Moonbow's soul, upsets her a great deal.
  • Fantastic Racism: REALLY hates drow, see freudian excuse below.
  • Freudian Excuse: When it comes to her hatred of drow, considering drow burned her village and murdered all her friends.
  • Green Thumb: As a cleric of a nature goddess, she's able to cast a host of nature-themed spells.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Downplayed with her relationship with Larethar, a dual-wielding rogue.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Offers to sacrifice herself to purify the moontear of Belaphoss's power.
  • Hidden Depths: Despire Illydia getting introduced as your average Friend to All Living Things White Magician Girl, she had a LOT of anger issues that start showing.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She's 140 years old, which in elf years puts her solidly in her young adult years.
  • Stat Sticks: Her unique bow has no extra damage, but makes up for it with a 20% boost to all of her healing spells.
  • White Mage: As a cleric this is given, she can learn six healing spells, as opposed to other characters one or two.

Larethar Gulgrin

Dwarven rogue and bodyguard to Illydia, Larethar is a smart-mouthed troublemaker who is entirely dedicated to his duty as a protector.

Tropes:

Hommet Shaw Harpell

An airheaded and eccentric but ultimately good-hearted necromancer. Joins the party after his caravan was slaughtered by bandits.

Troped:

  • Cloudcuckoolander: Not the worst case in the party (see Izhkin below) but quite a bit out there. Considering he's a Harpell it's a given.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: A goodhearted necromancer.
  • Hilariously Abusive Childhood: Downplayed, the most he says about his childhood is that his parents seemed to think he would be born old enough to work the fields, and that they sold him at the first opportunity.
  • Life Drain:
  • Mage Born of Muggles: Born to two farmers but taken to longsaddle when he shows talent with magic. Averted, during his personal quest he finds out his mother was a Harpell, a family with a long history of mages.

Jarhild Stoneforge

A stubborn but honorable Dwarven fighter, Jarhild is the protagonist's superior in the Burning Dawn guild. Out for blood after finding out her guild was wiped out.

Tropes:

  • Action Girl: The tough-as-nails warrior of the party
  • Animal Motifs: Bears, as shown on her unique shield and belt buckle. Fitting for such a tough woman.
  • Critical Hit Class: Starts off with an ability that increased her critical chance by 5%, with her unique helmet giving her another 5%.
  • Iron Lady: A no-nonsense leader and high ranking member of the Burning Dawn.
  • Stone Wall: downplayed, since she can dish out a fair bit of damage, but she is by far the tankiest party member in the game.

Bryn Lightfingers

Belamy's ranger sister and third surviving member of the Burning Dawn. Joins the party after being rescued from the Gilded Eye's prison.

Tropes:

  • Dead All Along: Died in the Gilded Eye chapterhouse, with the one that joins the party being a succubus that took her place.
  • Forest Ranger: See above.

Soronil Noonshadow Dalanir Ch'fyr

A moon elf informant and friend of Illydia and Larethar. He has an interest in why the Gilded Eye paladins are trying to wipe out the Burning Dawn Mercenaries.

Soronil's true identity is that if the drow Dalanir, seeking to stop his brother from summoning Belaphoss.

Tropes:

  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: He's listed as a divination wizard, but doesn't start with any divination spells despite the fact he'll probably join the party around level ten.
  • Knowledge Broker: Acts as one to the party early on, giving them their leads in their fight against the Gilded Eye.
  • Squishy Wizard: He's this even compared to Hommet, starting with pitiful constitution. Additionally, being locked out from the necromancy tree makes him the only party member unable to heal themselves in any way.
  • Token Heroic Orc: As one of the few good drow in the setting.

Javen Tarmikos

Founder and commanding paladin of the Order of the Gilded Eye, can join the party right before they enter the Underdark if the player can successfully persuade him.

Tropes:

  • The Friend Nobody Likes: doesn't have a good relationship with a single other party member. Whoes opinion of him range from distaste to murderous hatred.
  • Knight Templar: Is one to a tee.
  • Light Is Not Good: Zig-Zagged, he's fully convinced he's in the right, but is also willing to torture an innocent man to death for being RELATED to a member of the Burning Dawn.
  • Permanently Missable Content: If you either kill him or fail to persuade him he won't join you, which is especially noticeable considering he's one of the two frontline party members you get.
  • Walking Spoiler: hard not to be when you're The leader of the order trying to kill the protaganists.

Izhkin

Darro rogue and "Lord of the Dark", gets hired by the party to lead them through the Underdark.

Tropes:

  • Cloudcuckoolander: Entirly insane, which is par for the course as far as Darro goes.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: He's only slightly more tolerated then Javen.
  • Mummies at the Dinner Table: Drags around the corpse of Illydia's mentor that he calls Golgamann and treats has his assistant. You can force him to bury it, at which point he'll replace it with another identical looking corpse.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Calls himself "Lord of the Dark" despite being your average insane Darro.
  • Token Evil Teammate: A bit more insane than outright evil, but he most certainly counts.
