People's Republic of China
Official Name: People's Republic of China, Republic of China (Democratic/Nationalist), Great Qing (Monarchist), Universal State (Fascist)
Ruling Party: Chinese Communist Party
Ideology: Maoismnote
The largest country in the world in terms of population, the PRC is currently the dominant power in East Asia. Despite sharing the same ideology, the PRC and Soviet Union have remained bitter rivals since the Sino-Soviet split. The two countries continue to compete for influence in Asia.- Civil War: While there is no active fighting between the two, the PRC still considers itself in a state of civil war against the Republic of China on the island of Taiwan.
- We ARE Struggling Together: The Soviet Union and PRC hate each other due to differences in opinion over the direction of communism. The Soviets continue to follow Marxism-Leninism, while the Chinese are loyal to Maoism. The two also compete for influence in Asia.

Republic of China
Official Name: Republic of China, Great Qing (Monarchist), Chinese Socialist Republic (Revolutionary Socialist/Communist)
Ruling Party: Nationalist Party of China
Ideology: Military Autocracynote
Following their defeat in the Chinese Civil War, Chiang Kai-shek and his remaining Nationalists fled to Taiwan. After Chiang Kai-shek's death, his son Chiang Ching-kuo became president and ushered in a new period of liberalization from 1975-1988 that saw the country democratize. This would not last following Ching-kuo's death, and a bloody military-backed coup by his grandson Chiang Hsiao-yen saw the nation go back to its authoritarian roots. Chiang Hsiao-yen has come to be widely hated for his actions, but the future is still uncertain for the Republic of China.- Arch-Enemy: Unsurprisingly, the Republic of China is at odds with the People's Republic of China and has very frosty relations with them. The fact that they are now both at ideological extremes (the PRC is Maoist while the ROC is a far-right Military Autocracy) doesn't help.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: The general public in the Republic of China wanted a continuation of Chiang hereditary rule and a departure from democracy. They got a military dictatorship under a widely hated Bastard Bastard.
- The Exile: Taiwan is home to American expats who have brought along the entirety of the US Pacific Fleet after the Great American Collapse.
- Military Coup: Taiwan's very brief period of democracy ended in a bloody coup by Chiang Hsiao-yen and the ROC military.
- The Remnant: Taiwan is home to the last vestiges of the Kuomintang-led Nationalist government that ruled all of China from 1928, when they overthrew the Beiyang government, until 1949, when they lost to the Communist government in the Chinese Civil War. Likewise, they claim to be the sole remnant of the Republic of China, which was established in 1912.
- Short-Lived Leadership: Acting President Lee Teng-hui ruled for a measly two days before getting brutally murdered in the Military Coup.

Taking power in a bloody military coup that saw the massacre of the Executive Yuan, Hsiao-yen has grown to be deeply unpopular with both the people and his own government officials.- 0% Approval Rating: By the time the mod starts, the people of the Republic of China have grown to hate him. Even his supposedly loyal advisors are starting to drift away.
- Bastard Bastard: He's been speculated to be the bastard son of former president Chiang Ching-kuo, and also happens to be an autocratic military dictator that runs Taiwan like an isolationist hellhole.

State of Japan
Official Name: State of Japan, Union of Japan (Revolutionary Socialist), Empire of Japan (Monarchist)
Ruling Party: Liberal Democratic Party - Kochikai Faction
Ideology: National Conservatism
With communism continuing to expand throughout Asia, and the collapse of NATO and the United States, Japan found itself on its own. Threatened by Korea and China to the West, and the Soviets to the North, Japan went back into a period of isolation. The Japanese people rallied around their Emperor. The government increased some powers to the royal family, and popularity for a more conservative democracy grew. Japan continues to be a technological hub on the world stages, and maintains close ties with Australia, and the Democratic League.- Authority in Name Only: Downplayed. The Emperor and his family are noted to have been given some more powers following their renewed isolation, but the Prime Minister still remains as the actual ruler of Japan.
- History Repeats: Japan has once again gone back into isolation thanks to being surrounded by hostile Communists and being left to fend for themselves after the collapse of NATO. It's not as bad as the Sakoku period however, as Japan still maintains relations with the Democratic League and remains technologically connected with the rest of the world.
- Last of Its Kind: Most countries in East Asia have adopted communism (either Marxism-Leninism or Maoism), leaving Japan as one of the last democracies in the region.
- Red Scare: The threat of either Chinese or Soviet influence has caused paranoia in Japan, resulting in them adopting a mild isolationist policy.
