The Immortals

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/immortals_3.jpg
An elite group of warriors in Persia who report directly to Queen Thomyris.
  • The Fellowship Has Ended: By the end of the game the only survivors of the Immortals are Sargon, Neith and Artaban, though technically Vahram's younger Alternate Self still lives.
  • Historical Badass Upgrade: In real life the Immortals were simply a group of warriors, but here they have magical abilities. They were also an army of about 10,000, not just a group of seven.
  • True Companions: While Sargon is a recent addition to the group, they are all pretty welcoming towards him and it's made clear in many scenes that the group truly cares about each other. Unfortunately, Vahram's machinations in Mount Qaf end up sowing division among the group.

    Sargon

Sargon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sargon_7.jpg

Voiced by: Tommy Sim'aan

The youngest and newest member of the Immortals.

  • Alternate Self:
    • While exploring Mount Qaf, Sargon encounters several versions of himself from other timelines who insist that they must take his powers to complete their goals, with it implied that unlike the main Sargon they failed to acquire the Simurgh feathers which are necessary to continue in Mount Qaf. Killing them allows him to absorb their energies and gain their unique Athra Surges.
    • He also found the corpse of a version of himself who died after getting Menolias' bow, which the prime Sargon took and used for the rest of his adventure.
    • Time travelling to prevent Ghassan's death briefly creates a double of Sargon, but unlike with these other examples the two merge together willingly.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Sargon is the youngest recruit because unlike most of them, he was recruited after he challenged Vahram to a duel to prove he is the strongest.
  • Blue Is Heroic: His Athra energy appears as blue and he wears a blue sash.
  • Dual Wield: Use a pair of twin blades named after a pair of lovers.
  • Heroic BSoD: Sargon suffers one after Vahram successfully assimilates the Heart of the Simurgh in himself, using its power to destroy the world. Seeing the world reduced to a literal void, Sargon finally loses hope. He's only pulled out of it by the spirit of the Simurgh, who helps Sargon realize that he can still stop Vahram before it's too late.
  • Meaningful Name: Sargon is nicknamed the "Rashabar", or "Black Wind". Sargon points out the "Rashabar" is said to "sow ruin and destruction". By the end of the game, Sargon's managed to rack up a very large kill count, with some very notable marks. One of which is the evil snake goddess Azhdaha, whom he doesn't kill, but does defeat in battle. For those he does kill, the count includes the monster Jahandar, the Forest Queen Kiana, King Darius, and 2 of the Immortals (Orod and Menolias). Sargon also defeats Vahram, even after he takes control of the Heart of the Simurgh and becomes a god. At the end of the game, he sows the ruin of Queen Thomyris, by exposing her murder of King Darius to the royal court. In revealing the truth to Prince Ghassan, he ends up moving Ghassan to reject the throne entirely, breaking Thomyris' hold on the Persian throne completely.
  • Switched at Birth: It's heavily implied through side quests and certain comments that he's the biological son of Queen Thomyris, who intentionally swapped him with Ghassan as part of an ancient prophecy, therefore making him the Prince of Persia.

    Vahram

Vahram

Voiced by: Stewart Scudamore

The greatest warrior in Persia and leader of the Immortals.

  • The Ace: Is treated as this by everyone, being the most respected member of the Immortals because of his legendary skill.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Once a happy prince and son of King Darius, his father was betrayed and murdered by Thomyris who also fatally wounded Vahram. Darius was able to save his life by giving him some of the Simurgh's power, but he ended up jumping across time for an unknown amount of years until he escaped.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of the usual protagonists in a Rightful King Returns story. In most versions, the lost rightful heir is an honorable and kind-hearted warrior who's time spent as one of the people has humbled them into a greater ruler than they would have been had they remained royalty. Vahram, however, is the villain of the game, his Dark and Troubled Past made him vengeful, and in order to reclaim his throne, he intends to turn himself into a god and destroy the world itself, remaking it to fit what he believes to be right.
  • Due to the Dead: Towards the end of the game, he pays his respects to the grave of his father, King Darius, saying how he hopes to follow in his footsteps as a fair and righteous ruler.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Vahram, towards the end of the game, is shown mourning his father, King Darius. Despite his delusions of godhood, Vahram still misses his father very dearly and shows great respect and reverence for the king Darius was in life.
  • Expy: He seems to be inspired by Vergil from the Devil May Cry series. Aside from being an Iaijutsu Practitioner with moves very reminiscent of Vergil's own techniques (specifically the Judgment Cut and Judgment Cut End) he also shares Vergil's obsession for power.
  • Godhood Seeker: Vahram's true goal. His ultimate aim is to claim the Simurgh's power for himself in order to become a god, so he may destroy the world and remake it in his own image.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: After Sargon defeats him and brings him back to his senses, Vahram chooses to return the Simurgh's heart to the Simurgh itself, allowing the deity to rebuild the world, which Vahram destroyed. Sadly, Vahram dies in the process.
  • Hypocrite: Vahram tells Sargon that the Simurgh's powers were not meant for any mortal. Not less than 2 minutes later, he says that the Simurgh's powers are for him and him alone, despite the fact that Vahram is a mortal.
  • Iaijutsu Practitioner: He uses a long sword reminiscent of a Nodachi that he's capable of swinging so fast it's seemingly capable of warping time and space. It's later revealed that he actually does have the power to control time, so what was shown was likely his power in action in real time.
  • Mythology Gag: What is his signature power? The ability to rewind time. What is he? The true Prince of Persia. What was the Prince's power in the Sands of Time trilogy? The ability to rewind time. Admittedly, they got it through completely different methods, but they both ended up with the same ability; Vahram's is a now-innate power provided seemingly by being at the epicenter of the creation of the Mount Qaf Time Crash, while the Sands of Time Trilogy's prince needed magical artifacts connected to the sands.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Before the final level of the game, Vahram assimilates the Simurgh's heart in his body before using its power to successfully destroy the world. If the Simurgh hadn't been able to pull Sargon out of his Heroic BSoD, Vahram would've succeeded in creating his new world.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Vahram is snapped out of his delusions by Sargon, realizing his foolishness in taking the Simurgh's power. He then sacrifices himself to restore the Simurgh to life, allowing it to restore the world.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He does sincerely wish to be a wise and just ruler. Unfortunately, because his entire family history was erased from the royal records, he feels the only way he can take his rightful place on the throne is by outright rewriting history via destroying and rebooting the universe.

    Neith

Neith

Voiced by: Ajjaz Awad

A friend to Sargon and fellow Immortal.

  • Excellent Judge of Character: Unlike the other Immortals except for Artaban, Neith is able to tell from one conversation with Sargon that he didn't kill Ghassan like Vahram said he did.

    Artaban

Artaban

Voiced by: Atilla Akinci

An experienced warrior who trains Sargon.

  • BFS: Wields a massive broadsword.
  • The Mentor: Downplayed as Anahita was his main mentor, but Sargon can go to him for advice and training as he unlocks new skills and abilities.
  • Rage Quit: Pulls a variant of this when he realized Mount Qaf's Time Crash means he experiences time at a longer scale than Sargon, preventing him from making any meaningful progress. To avoid suffering the same Fate Worse than Death that occured with others he remains at the Haven where it's safe.
  • The Reliable One: Sargon cites this as his strength; In the confusing Time Crash that curses Mount Qaf, Artaban gives Sargon a pillar of stability to talk to, so that he doesn't lose his mind. Even if he can't fight due to his stretched perception of time, he's still an invaluable ally for Sargon.

    Menolias

Menolias

Voiced by: Shai Matheson

An experienced archer.

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Surprisingly, Menolias excels in close-quarter combat. During the second stage of his fight, he will discard the bow because he doesn't want to hold back anymore.
  • Choice of Two Weapons: Menolias' bow doubles as a chakram.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Menolias is an archer who uses the bow to purposefully hold himself back and in truth, Menolias excels tremendously in close-quarters combat.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Menolias chooses to help Vahram not just because he believes Vahram's lie that Sargon killed Prince Ghassan, but also because he believes that Ghassan and his mother, Queen Thomyris, have failed in their responsibilities as rulers of Persia, citing the various misfortunes the kingdom is suffering as evidence. Menolias believes that Vahram would be a better ruler than either of them.

    Orod

Orod

Voiced by: Youssef Kerkour

A large and aggressive warrior.

  • Badass Boast: Upon his defeat at Sargon's hands, he mentioned how he had drowned the Bahamut, crossed the Caspian Bridge for a bet, and even defeated Hercules.
  • Blood Knight: Absolutely loves the thrill of battle. When they were on Mount Qaf, Orod was more concerned with the thrill of fighting potential enemies rather than worry about getting trapped in there indefinitely and suffer a Fate Worse than Death.
  • The Big Guy: Largest amongst the Immortals and one of their heavy hitters.
  • Dual Wield; His double-bladed staff can be separated into two separate chain-hooks with the hooks being a pair of massive anchors.
  • Expy: While most definitely not one in personality, his fighting style with his dual chain hooks, the chains that he has strapped to his forearms, his appearance, and the fact that he had bested Hercules in the past certainly bring to mind Kratos from God of War. His final battle with Sargon is on a wrecked ship in a storm, much like the famous opening level of the first game.
  • Noodle Incident: Mentions that he once fought Hercules and even defeated him with no one to sing praises.
  • Villain Respect: Gives one to Sargon after being defeated by him, though he himself isn't much of a villain.

    Radjen

Radjen

Voiced by: Orion Ben

A former assassin recruited by Vahram into the Immortals.

  • Dropped a Bridge on Her: Suffers one as Sargon mentioned she is one of the many Immortals who died on Mount Qaf but we don't find her nor her body or even encounter her as a boss fight.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Had this as part of her backstory, where Vahram recruited her into the Immortals after a failed assassination attempt.
  • Killed Offscreen: Sargon includes her among the list of dead Immortals at the end of the game. Given how the last mention of her beforehand is Neith saying she'll fight her off, Neith probably killed Radjen in battle.

Other

    Prince Ghassan

Ghassan

Voiced by: Adam El Hagar

The Prince of Persia, but not the hero of the story.

  • Distressed Dude: He's the title character, but unlike in previous games he's not the protagonist and instead has been kidnapped.
  • Switched at Birth: It's heavily implied through side quests and certain comments that he's the adopted son of Queen Thomyris, who intentionally swapped him with Sargon as part of an ancient prophecy.

    Queen Thomyris (Unmarked Spoilers)

Thomyris

Voiced by: Sirine Saba

The Queen of Persia.

  • Ambition Is Evil: Killed King Darius and tried to kill Vahram, resulting in the disappearance of the Simurgh, to try and get the throne.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Ultimately, she is the one responsible for all of the game's events. She was the one that killed Darius, almost succeeded in killing Vahram as a child, nearly killed the Simurgh and sent it into hibernation in the attempt, and created the time loop that engulfs Mount Qaf, albeit unintentionally. Her actions are responsible for ending thousands of innocent lives and dooming more to a Fate Worse than Death, simply because she desired the throne, no matter how dire the consequences would be. Fortunately, Sargon reveals the truth to everyone in the Palace when he returns, and from the sounds of the crowd, they very much are not going to let her be a Karma Houdini.

    Anahita

Anahita

Voiced by: Nadia Albina

Sargon's former mentor.

  • Just Following Orders: It turns out that she was doing this, ordered by the Queen to take Ghassan to Mount Qaf.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Sargon doesn't hold back on Anahita after she confesses why she kidnapped Prince Ghassan, namely that her actions led to the Prince's death. He also rejects her offer to help him, saying that because of her betrayal, Sargon can't trust her anymore.

    Fariba

Fariba

Voiced by: Lola Elsokari

A young child living in Mount Qad with her grandmother.

  • Cheerful Child: Despite being trapped on a mountain cursed with a Time Crash and full of deadly monsters and traps, Fariba is always happy and kind.

    The Child (Spoilers)

Vahram

Voiced by: Joshua Dawson-Shaw

A version of Vahram still learning to control his abilities and being thrown across time, where Sargon encounters him.

  • Alternate Self: It's implied that encountering Sargon, who gave Vahram advice on how to gain control of his abilities, is what caused this Vahram to diverge from the path of his older counterpart.
  • Time Master: While not to the same level as his older self, Sargon's advice does help Vahram gain control of his abilities sooner than his older self did and realise what's going on.

    Kaheva the Blacksmith

Kaheva

Voiced by: Shazia Nicholls

A forge goddess that aids Sargon in his quest.

  • Ultimate Blacksmith: She's the goddess of the forge and is able to enhance Sargon's equipment.

    King Darius

King Darius

Voiced by: Bijan Daneshmand

The former king, who died thirty years prior to the start of the game.

  • The Good King: By all accounts he was a wise and just king, favored by the Simurgh.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Darius' last action in life was to save his son by giving him a portion of the Simurgh's power.
  • An Ice Person: Darius wields ice in the first portion of his boss fight, even encasing his sword in ice.
  • Papa Wolf: When Sargon meets Vahram at Darius' grave, after Vahram leaves, Darius himself rises as a zombie to fight Sargon and stop him from interfering with his son's quest.
  • Playing with Fire: In the second half of his boss fight, in addition to his ice powers, Darius calls upon the power of Atash, the Sacred Fire, to wield in battle.
  • Posthumous Character: He's been dead for nearly thirty years by the time the game starts.
