Pebble
One of the titular characters; a monster who lives under Wren's bed, and, despite being recruited to scare her, is actually her best friend. He likes to eat, shapeshift, and learn new things, and he often comically gets things wrong.
- Ambiguous Gender: While he's probably male, as he's usually referred to as "him" and shares a design with other male monsters, he's occasionally referred to as a "they".
- Big Eater: He tends to eat large amounts of food in one setting.
- Extreme Omnivore: He will often eat non-food items, and a running gag is him eating the packaging of the food instead of the actual food.
- Flight: Apparently, he can fly if he's eaten something particular for breakfast.
- Incredible Shrinking Man: He shrinks after shedding his "crust".
- Interspecies Friendship: He and Wren, a human, are best friends.
- Literal-Minded: He will often take phrases like "the toilet is running" literally.
- Mr. Imagination: He likes to play pretend games, most often pretending to be in space.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: His real name is Pebbluhneghy, but everyone calls him Pebble.
- Playing with Fire: If he's had something particular for breakfast, he can shoot fire.
- The Prankster: He sometimes plays tricks, such as cheating at hide and seek by painting his stripes on all the boxes.'
- Rubber Man: His whole body can stretch like a rubber band, which is perhaps part of his shapeshifting abilities.
- Telepathy: He can communicate with his mind.
- Things That Go "Bump" in the Night: He sleeps under Wren's bed and reluctantly scares her.
- Trademark Favourite Food: A running gag is his love for whipped cream, or as he calls it, "creamy whippers".
- Verbal Tic: Has a tendency to use participles when normal verbs would be grammatically correct.
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: He can change shape at will.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He's afraid of toilets because he thinks they're sentient and "eat" human waste.
Wren
The little girl who Pebble lives with, who is playful, knowledgeable, and has a bit of an attitude.
- Bookworm: She's often illustrated reading.
- Good with Numbers: Seems to be a decent student in general, and mathematics is no exception.
- Interspecies Friendship: She and Pebble, a monster, are best friends.
- Line-of-Sight Name: Was named because her mother saw a wren outside after she was born.
- Little Miss Snarker: Downplayed. She can be a bit blunt, but isn't really snide.
- Ms. Imagination: Enjoys playing make-believe with Pebble, especially pretending she's in space.
- Nightmare Fetishist: Downplayed. She likes being scared, though apparently will go to sleep in her dads' bed if she is scared enough.
- Telepathy: She can communicate telepathically, because Pebble taught her.
Donald
One of Wren's fathers; the bald one with the beard. Was also Violet's "host" when he was a kid.
- Do Not Call Me "Paul": Apparently, he only lets Violet call him by his first name.
- Happily Married: He and Phil have a happy, stable marriage.
- Interspecies Friendship: He and Violet got along well when she lived under his bed, and they're still friends now.
- Straight Gay: He's an average dude who just so happens to be gay.
Phil
Wren's non-bearded dad.
- Happily Married: He and Donald are in a loving marriage.
- Straight Gay: Just like his husband, he's gay but displays no stereotypes of homosexuality.
Violet
Pebble's mother, and Donald's former bed-monster.
- Extra Eyes: She has three eyes.
- Good Parents: Seems to be a loving mother.
- Interspecies Friendship: She and Donald are still good friends.
- Telepathy: Like Pebble and Wren, she can communicate with thoughts.
Pebble's dad
Pebble's unnamed father and Violet's husband.
- Extreme Omnivore: Apparently, he eats furniture.
- Unnamed Parent: We don't know what his name is.
